Margaret holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and a master’s degree in social services from Fordham University. Her research interests are related to reducing biases and collaborative efforts to address social justice and mental health issues. Margaret Knapp leads a mobile crisis team in the Bronx, New York,
serving persons who are often marginalized and facing mental health crises. She is an adjunct instructor teaching human rights and social policy classes at Fordham Graduate School of Social Service. She served as one of the founding staff of a shelter for women and children in Santa Cruz, California, and then served as the Executive Director for four years. In New York
City, she has advocated for families facing eviction in housing court. She also served as the Director of the Internship Program for the non-governmental organization, International Multiracial Shared Cultural Organization. Upon graduation, Margaret plans to continue teaching, researching, and serving to advance social change and human well-being.

The Ph.D. in Social Work program consists of 48 credits of coursework and a dissertation. Students can complete the program in four years.
The program requires two years of coursework and approximately two years to complete the comprehensive examination requirement, along with the dissertation.
