Nearly everything we do - from the songs we listen to; to the shows we watch; heck, even just walking down the street - now results in the creation of data.
That’s why Angela Benton founded Streamlytics, a company that allows consumers to see who is harvesting their data, how it’s being used - and how to get their cut.
“Imagine a world where you own and control who has access to your data, and you also get compensated for it,” Benton says.
That’s Streamlytics’ vision of a fairer data economy.

I came up with something like this at a wedding in Dec 2019. My idea was that people would be employees of the company because companies hold more rights in the space currently. You’d get a box of analytic devices that report back to our server and you’d get to choose what companies get your data and would have complete transparency into how the company and data were managed. Glad to see someone is out there making things better🤘

The problem with this is quality. If there is money in selling data, data is easily generated. Just make a bot which creates accounts, generates fake datasets, uploads the fake datasets, profit! It's like mining Bitcoin, but better! Without the quality it's useless data. Or even worse, misleading data. Mixing in profit incentives at the user-end without driving the data quality into the abyss is super hard. You probably can't do it without biometric personal IDs and heavy analysing of submitted data, combined with a diminishing profit as volume of data increases. Which means volunteering to what is basically the CCP social credit system for a few bucks. There might be a way to make this work, but it would take a real super genius to pull it off, and I don't think I saw one in the video. Besides, there are bigger problems to solve for super geniuses. Cheaper housing, more nutritious and tasty food, sustainability, fusion, etc, etc...

The prolem is yet more sophisticated than that. Heres some rough analysis from a capitalist perspective. On the corperation / data consumer side: The data consumers are only going to buy data such that the incremental cost of one unit of data will be equal to the incremental benefiotof utilizing one incremental unit of data. On the individual / data producer side: They want to get as much value for their data as possible. The most straight-forward way to align these incentives would be to treat these data payments as a sort of rebate. I.e. after purchase of some goods that the data producer wouldn't have purchased but for the ads sent to them due to these data collection efforts, a portion of that purchase price is refunded to you. Essentially, this is the credit card business model.

This is just an ad. The company says they choose ethical companies to do stuff with your data, but didn't talk about any vetting process. For me that should have been part of the core conversation as the problem was your data being misused and for me potentially 'starting' mega corporations that abuse your data for their AI in order to get more power and have a bigger say in your life. This changed really quickly into, it's a problem and they make money on it, shouldn't you too? But that doesn't help why they are supposedly set up to begin with.

If corporations only pay slave wages, what makes people think that they will compensate people for their data? That's the whole idea of capitalism, uncontrolled accumulation of capital as the utmost priority. Corporations will never give people what they deserve, otherwise, it would not be capitalism.

Currency is our data . Simply it , it means we are products ( you and me ) . Some peoples are going to the way of controlling human behaviour activities it means social culture by using our data . 4.95 billion people around the world use the internet in January 2022 - equivalent to 62.5 percent of the world's total population. They know the peoples psychological behavioural patten which means a individual person how behave with a single event in life . So we can't dined metaverse world in future . Slowly ..living with nature becoming luxury of human life . We are happy picture of sad reality . And paradox ,At the sametime , at any corner of this planet peoples still struggle with tradional social problems like poverty trap , casteism , class conflict etc . At the end , we hopes and never stop believe in people how much betrayed to you . This is beauty of being human .

So most of these platforms provide users with a service whether it's social media, gaming, web searches or more. Web 2 has shown that people don't want to own servers to run these applications. Hence Web 2 became centralised. This meant that most of what you do on that particular platform is processed and stored on these remote servers. This is costly on these business to run platforms used by billions of users. Given that they are not non-profit institutions, they have to find a way of generating revenue. That's where your data and advertising come into the picture. So technically, these platforms are not free. Whi Which is why RU-vid has included RU-vid premium where you have to pay such that you don't receive any advertising. So technically, you pay with your data to use the platform. Take it or leave it.

@@cob571 My problem isn't that it wasn't informative, it did have info on data privacy. My problem is that they talk about data privacy and then tell you to hand it to them so they can sell it instead. It's great that people can get a cut of the profits from their data, but the better alternative is to use privacy tools to stop your data from getting out in the first place. This isn't innovation, this is just them partially shifting profit from data brokers to users.
