Gettysburg 3D Photo Tour 

We're rolling the dice with no age-restriction on this one. We believe pieces like this hold educational value across a multitude of subjects (military history, social studies, history of photography, etc). Hopefully it holds.

I can't love this enough. One of the best ABT's RU-vid presentations.

Another outstanding video sir. I was chased out of that field several years ago by a large white horse. To stand there with Frassanitos book in hand, lining up the rocks and saying to myself “Right Here!”never gets old.

Thank the Lord that these brave photographers showed the horrors of this war. I cannot imagine what they went through aferswards. We would not know the bravery of these men.

Photographer would have been overwhelmed by all the senses present that day. No judgement can be made against the photographer because his work was groundbreaking and historic and necessary. Thank you fo this vid.

Some years back I visited Pamplin Park in Petersburg and they had an exhibition devoted to Civil War photography and many images in 3D. It was breathtaking to see some of the images I'd seen many times before in a new way. Great presentation!

That’s so amazing to see those photos placed where they were taken. Equally as amazing to have a current photographer giving his perceptions both on the photographs and on the history.

What an exceptional, intelligent and illuminating presentation. A beautiful encounter between a contemporary documentary photographer and those true pioneers of visionary photography, Alexander Gardner and Timothy O'Sullivan. The dialogue between Garry and Louie was exceptional in its discourse on the photography of present and the photography of the past, (while standing at the very place where that dialogue had its source and where that history was made). Not just corpses, but human beings who had a life before and (thanks to the photographers and historians) a form of life, after. Truly, hallowed ground. Many thanks to William A. Frassanito, Garry Adelman, Louie Palu and the ABT; and not forgetting James Gibson, Timothy O'Sullivan and Alexander Gardner. Walt Whitman was accurate in his estimation of Gardner as someone who "saw farther than his camera".

Fantastic! The carnage was unbelievable. When I was a kid, I watched Gone With The Wind. There was a scene where it looked liked thousands of dead and wounded lay in never ending rows. I've been around thousands of dead bodies, and the smell can be terrible.

When I was last at Gettysburg, one couldn’t get across the fence-line into this part of the Rose farm. Glad to see that is apparently no longer the case.

Did you forget the Viewmaster we grew up with, Garry? Those stereographic pics would have been perfect for the device, but I don't recall ever seeing any for sale for the Viewmaster. .

Sad thing is to see those men photographed looking horrible after laying dead for four days since they were killed on July 2. They were Brave men who likely had been at Chancellorsville, marched all the way into PA and did not fall out of the march as they could have, nor did they fall out of the long march to get to the attack position late afternoon of July 2. Then they went into battle and faced the deadly fire. And remember for every one dead soldier there was usually 3-4 wounded. So many dead in this area was because the Union troops were in a rear slope defense and these Confederates walked right into a point blank fire. These men photographed were Brave men each and every one!

During the 159th me and the GF visited the Rose Farm and using Frassanitos book (GF got to meet him during the 160th at his book signing) we found all the spots and lined up the photo's. (would have loved to do that in 3D) it's such an amazing spot that hardly no 1 visits, we just had the horses grazing , getting to the field can be a little tricky but worth the walk

So I’m assuming that by the time the photographers got to the battlefields most bodies were buried? I would think you would see hundreds laying around. Also, did any of the photographers take photos of the fresh graves before soldiers were moved to cemeteries to show the magnitude of the losses as well? Great video!

They had to have been laid out. Bodies dont fall neatly. I think the wagon adds to the image. Protography in 1860 did have a ethos of manufacturing a story like a painting so moving bodies for effect was in the same vein of a staged image using actors to set a scene that was then photographed

I believe only one body was moved. Just because that rock wall look like a good photo opp. I believe it’s safe to say that every other dead pretty much was already where they were

It would be kind of cool if the NPS set this up as a permanent installation.

Funny how the stereotype viewers then the 3D glasses were the original VR headsets.
