I built my own ISO cab with an EVH Celestion inside. I’ve compared the tone to running an IR version of the EVH Celestion using Mooer Cab X2. I admit the IR is a fantastic reproduction but the recorded wave forms show much more detail being picked up with mics. Also, I can get a louder recorded tone with the ISO without clipping. Will anyone notice? No. But since when do we guitar nerds care about what others think….lol

Hi, I ditched the V30 from my Grossmann cab, I had to push the volume too loud to get any richness from the speaker, I installed a greenback instead because it adds a lot of color to the sound at lower levels, I used two Shure SM57s in the Fredman configuration, I also used an Alesis paramentric eq between my preamp and power amp so that I could dail back any boxy sounding frequencies before the signal reaches the speaker btw I am using my old ADA MP1 Classic preamp into a Marshall 9100 valve power amp, it sounds awesome through the Grossmann iso cab

@@watchtheskies Hey man, thanks for checking out the video and your feedback re the iso cab. That is really helpful. I am still trying to dial it in. I'll defiantly consider a greenback moving forward. I did buy a second hand Cremaback but after putting it the iso cab for a day it blew up. Hopefully I will have more luck with a greenback.

@@chasingtone2022 I found that with the volume past a certain point you get a weird kind of compression that squashes the life out of the sound, the secret is to get the sound the you want at lower levels and you will keep all of the dynamics and clarity but without the compression and boxy resonance

I think the Grossman sounds more natural and realistic. I find the IR's to sound a bit off in the dynamics, like there is a some sort of compression that I don't like. Something gets lost in there.

Having played around with IR's Vs the Iso can and speakers I totally agree with you. I much prefer the ISO cab and I feel that it captures the true sound of the Amp. Thanks for the feedback and checking the video out mate.

Great demo. Did you ever try panning the isocab to one side and having the IR panned over to the other side?

I like the Grossman better on the distortion and lead guitar as well. Your GGD IR was too dark for the mix. If you like too have more Bass in the Grossman try to experiment with 2 Mics and the Position/Phase between the two microphones. Maybe that helps, greetings from Germany :)

Greeting's Germany from the UK :). Thank you for your feedback that is rally helpful. Maybe I should have eq'd the amp to match the IR's but I didn't want to mess with the settings. It might have been better to get the best sounds for the Iso cab and the IR's. I am running a sm57 with a sennheiser 906 and it does sound good but not as 'big' as the IR's. Thanks again for the feedback, its really helpful for future videos etc.

Man, seriously? I have 2 Grossmanns and I’ve tried any load box, plugin or IR on the planet: there’s no comparison. Grossmann is the real thing, istant gratification. Digital is an endless fight to get good tone, most of the times with no success.

The IR sounded more open and natural, surprisingly. It could've used a little added brightness, maybe push up the SM57 more, but that's about it. The iso cab sounded congested and boxy, which is what iso cabs are infamous for.

What mics were used on the ir’s vs what you used in the grossman ? You have to remember that the ir’s will have been processed and tweaked to sound their best , I’m thinking of getting a grossman . Are you getting better results now since this was 6 months ago ?

Hi mate, I believe I was using a Sennheiser e 906 and a 57 on a V30. I have recently been getting great results with just the Sennheiser e 906 on a Marshall V30. I do think the Grossman is very cool although it takes some exploring with speakers and mics to get the best results.
