This was a pretty comprehensive test and I didn't realize, from watching the original RU-vid video on the subject, that you could just set the shutter angle and then not worry about re-setting the shutter speed every time you change the frame rate. This hack may make the GH5 autofocus useable now for vlogging at least!
Pete Sobolev Thank you Pete I’m glad you liked it and was able to use it. But yes you are right! By setting the shutter angle at 179 you fix the auto focus problem and you will not have to change the shutter speed everytime you change the frame rate 👍💪😁

Θανασης Μαντζουρης I have only tried 30 and 60fps, but as long as you use the FPS higher than 24fps it will work. But these settings only works if you have the GH5 firmware 2.3. I would recommend to upgrade to the latest 2.6, which they just released in November 2019. This one should be much better with the normal 180 degree or just double the shutter speed of your frame rates. @@Nqrgaard I have upgraded to the new firmware. So when I shoot at 50 fps it's better to put 180 degrees or 179?(pal system). Is better to use deggres or shutter? If I use shutter is best to put 100s for 50fps shooting? (pal system)
Θανασης Μαντζουρης Shutter angle and shutter speed is more or less the same (of course with variations). If you use shutter angle set it to 180 degree, because then you never have to think about the shutter speed. At 180 shutter angle the shutter speed will automatically be double the frame rates. If you use shutter speed you always have to set the shutter speed manually every time you change the frame rate (fps).
After the latest firmware update just keep it at 180 degree. When your shutter is at 180 degree you will never have to change the shutter speed by your self
Casper Janning Yes in this case where I wanted depth of field I set my aperture at 2.8. So I used a variable ND filter. Normally I always double my shutterspeed, and use the iso to control the light and a ND if it still is too bright 😊
ABDO Surf Legeslation uhhh that was a tricky question. Is that a Micro Four Thirds lens and Can you use Auto focus with this lens on the GH5? I would think it is a matter of how far you are from or how small your subject is in the framing, because the further you are away from the subject the smaller it will be and it could be harder to track. If you use face tracking the subject has to have the face to the camera all the time, because it tracks on the eyes. If you use one area you have to keep the subject in this one area all the time to track. And maybe it would be better to use the 225 point AF. Let me know what the result was when you test this 😊
KN film soory man i just want to require gh5 for surf videography but with the autofocus problemes it makes me sad ,canon 5d iv 100 400 mark ii good Af traking but mjpeg pb , expensive, not as charp as gh5 , a7sii?! sony a7sii the charpest 1080p and also good 4k but creazy expensive 100 400 lens and slow autofocus!! so i am very intersted in the gh5 if the autofocus with the panasonic lucia 100 400 mm can do well wile surfers moving and playing in waves so that s mean i do a lot of search in youtube chanel and i dont find am answer ,
ABDO Surf Legeslation Don’t say sorry 😊 I get your frustration and the GH5 is amazing in many ways, but the Canon will always have a better AF because of the Dual pixel AF system. You can count on it. Even with the fix the GH5 is not as good, but I think it gets much better, but you have to play with the settings to find the best way to what you are filming. I haven’t tried filming moving people with this fix yet, but it is actually a very interesting subject. And maybe it would be fun to film a football game to test these different settings. I don’t know the lens you are talking about, so I wouldn’t promise anything. Do you know anyone with a GH5 where you could try this lens on? It has to be for Micro Four Thirds mount, or else you can’t use it. Then you have to use a adapter, which is not that cheap - I know many use GH5 and Sigma 18-35mm with a speed booster
KN film the panasonic lucia 100 400 mm it s am native lens for the gh5 its am telephoto zoom lens just tray to use that thest in some sport events like cars race or dogs raninig or somthaing like that and give us the result and thanks.
ABDO Surf Legeslation Yes you are right that is a Panasonic lens, so I would guess it works as good as my 12-35mm. But the 100-300 is a variable f-stop, so your image will be a bit darker when starting at 100 and zoom to 300. But that can be corrected. A lens with a fixed aperture will not do this like the 35-100 f/2.8. But that one does not the focal length you are searching for.

You can find it 4 steps above the Syncro Scan which is grey for you at the moment. @@Nqrgaard Forgive this question if it is stupid... I am just a beginner and literally just got my GH5s today... but... After changing the setting in "exposure mode" to "M", and then setting the shutter angle to "179", do we leave the "exposure mode" on "M", or do we change it back? Also, do we just leave this shutter angle at "179" and forget about it, or do we need to change that setting every time we use a different video resolution?
MgelinFilms No stupid questions. You shall always use Manual mode M. And learn how to use it.The reason for doing that is to get the most of your camera and also so you can control all your settings. Check out my video (how to shoot in manual mode). You should have the shutter angle at 180, because Panasonic has fixed the problem back then. would same effect get if we change shutter speed instead of angle...for example if i soot video at 30fps and set shutter speed at 1/50s will that improve AF like 179 sngle shutter?

Marek Duda You should make a choice in advance - do you want to use slow motion in your final video or just normal speed? If you want slow motion you should shoot in 50fps and then you have the opportunity to slow down your footage afterwards in post (on your computer). Else just shoot in 25fps. 😊

Marek Duda I think that 25fps and 30fps is only a thing if you shoot for tv commercials. On Facebook and RU-vid the country does not care if you shoot in that. I render all my videos in 23,976 fps. So I either shoot in 24fps or 60fps. Which camera do you use and do you already have the 18-35mm sigma?
Hi Andrew Thanks for your comment and for watching. Yes the fix works for 30fps and 60fps. The fix is not that great for 24fps. So I always shoot in 30fps when I want to use this method. The 60fps is also tested in this video 😊 I believe the fix makes the AF a bit faster and better in 60fps. At 60fps the AF is in general better that 24fps, and I don’t know if that is because of the more available frames to calculate. Consider subscribing - I’m currently work on more videos, maybe ready Wednesday or Thursday next week😊

Don’t say sorry, because I’m also doing this to network and discuss topics with other creators 😁🎥 I haven’t tried the S mode, because I always shoot in M, so I get the picture I want with the settings I used and can control. I have a little video about “How to shoot in manual mode” as well. 😊 But I think you have to be in M because the more control you will get. Also I haven’t tested if the shutter angle can be accessed when you are not in Manual mode
