This is a remarkably INTACT Medieval, Gothic and Renaissance city! It's Splendid! Someone complained about the lack of trees, but I see more greenery than one sees in Lisbon, Barcelona, Istanbul or Naples! Also - the waterways are refreshing, and breaks up any urban monotony...plus hardly any 2 buildings are alike! THIS is definitely a place I want to visit! - perhaps live in someday. Looks like Great place for a Musician!
Hi Mark, I live in Ghent, and I can only confirm. It is a great city, large enough to offer everything (from education to culture, history and good food) and small enough to feel at home and relaxed. I recommend you visit Ghent during what we call "Gentse feesten" which is the 3d largest city festival in the world, during which the city is full of music stages and art performances ... one big festival during 10 days in the middle of july...
Hi Mark. From Gent as well. I've lived in many places in Belgium, sometimes I had to move because of circumstances, but I always wanted to come back here because this is where my heart it. It's the most open-minded city I feel like in Belgium, and for me that's the biggest attraction. It's a no-bullshit city. Sure you can have your go-to tourism in Bruges, (Bruges is GORGEOUS don't get me wrong) but there I always felt like I was judged for the most tedious of things (The movie 'In Bruges' absolutely nailed it.) So therefore, in Gent, everybody is welcome.
Great job, as a proud Genthian or "Genteneir" I can say you've done your home work. Only at the Belfort or as you call it Belfry you've forgotten to zoom in on our dragon, the guardian of our beloved town.
Thank you for this video. Ghent is as beautiful and peaceful as the others. I watched the one for Antwerp and also enjoyed it very much. Belgium must be one of the oldest countries in Europe. I'm a history buff and I appreciate very much the subtitles on the historical sights. The best videos are still from BookingHunterTV, they are very thorough.

I'm sure you ate some amazing ribs not too far from that but i'm sad to tell you that shop is a souvenir shop that also sells some snacks and beer but no ribs. You could be talking about Amadeus a minute away from that spot or one of the nearby restaurants.
No but there are just not a lot of smokers here. And if they do smoke they usally stand a bit to the side to try not to bother people. Otherwise people will just frown at them a bit XD
