Dang… Avacyn, Windgrace, and Brago are all commanders I hate to see in a pod. Board wipe tribal and lands matter but, “don’t blow up lands” as a mindset that exists is just frustrating to me.
At this point, paper magic is more appropriate for what you wanna do, and with how good your paper gameplay was, it’s a way out of the toxic that is MTGO.
I realised that I’ve slowly developed a chip on my shoulder over the past however long. I’ve decided that if I want to play on there then I have to try and fight fire with fire.
I understand the board wipes from white because it’s Avacyn and also no board wipes means green landfall takes over the game, but also think those two decks weren’t casual.
Well that’s the point. I expect board wipe tribal from Avacyn. I don’t expect to see it in a game labelled “low tier” by that exact same player. They just wanted an easy ride I think.
@@tribalkai 😁 Normal power level commanders for the most part. (Windgrace was a the one power gamer, but it was late game) The targeting and player level in the game was unfortunate though.
The threat assessment is tilting, props to you for keeping your cool. One of those games where if this were in person, politics would've gone way further in targets.

To be fair, it was Tig3r who cast every boardwipe, playing avacyn boardwipe tribal. As someone who has played against them many times, playing that in a casual game is something I wouldn't put past them.
Unfortunately people don't like losing and when they run into higher power decks in casual rooms and lose it instills the fear in them next time they think about bringing a real casual deck into a casual room. So then the higher power deck ratio goes up. Leading to more people getting the fear. Leading to the casual needle in a haystack scenario you described.
Absolutely true. I’m even more skeptical than that though. I think there’s players out there that enjoy winning so much that their morals go out the window and they rub their hands together at the sight of an easy victory. “Casual/low tier” makes these people salivate and it actually counts as a victory for them which is sad.
Watching this was infuriating. I would’ve hated playing in that game. Props to you for not getting tilted. What did the chat look like through all that terrible targeted removal?
I was tilted I just try not to show it. I think I show the chat once or twice in the video. Maybe I cut it out. The Brago player said they don’t want to waste their time anymore and I remember the Windgrace player saying “leave if you’re too weak”, which I thought was a weird thing to say.
Did anyone else see at the end that the Avacyn player was making lobbies with titles being toxic against the Brago player? He calls Brago a scrub, then goes incredibly far out his way to talk trash on him because he was muted. Its so petty, but also hilariously ironic.
It’s a conversation as old as time with this format. I don’t know if people on MTGO just purposefully ignore the caveats or if they genuinely have a different idea than the rest of us. Either way, my conclusion is now “if you can’t beat them, join them”. If I can’t have what I deem is a fun and casual game then I’ll just have to step it up to their level instead.
@@tribalkai I get what you are saying but that will ultimately increase the power level of all games. For example, un Pokémon games (Smogon) tiers are creates so that all Pokémon have an opportunity to be used. I think edh must do that so that we can still use fun cards and weird commanders.
Ouch. Hadn't realized quite how toxic MTGO's been getting recently, but if this is the new normal...I'm genuinely impressed that you've managed to put up with it this long. I feel I should specifically note that I'm far from sympathetic toward the Brago player. Put an infinite combo on the board on turn 6, setting up for the win on turn 7. Not the most "casual" of play patterns there, I'd say. As frustrating as it was definitely getting toward the end of the game, the Planar Cleansing on turn 7 was 100% needed to stop Brago. All that said, I do hope whatever you've been recording recently has been less annoying. Your videos are by far my favorite casual Commander content and I really hope you don't have to go through this kind of grief to produce them too often!
I go through it way more often than I don’t. This game actually flicked a switch for me in my head where I now have a chip on my shoulder and am just going to make the strongest shit I can without going into cEDH territory. Whether that’s a good thing or not, we’ll see.
I think Brago and Windgrace are defo not really casual commanders. Mono white Avacyn may be annoying but I would say it’s not high power. It’s to be expected that it’s gonna run many board wipes. Probably even has MLD and maybe even Worldender if they are truly evil lol All that being said yeah the concept of power level and casual is very warped and often times a annoying topic to even talk about with randoms. People love to say “my deck only costs 5 tickets” or some shite like that like that means anything lol
I think Brago is a fine casual commander. Sure here and then you find a high power level Brago deck, but for the most part (at least from my experience) people just like flickering their good etb creatures and have fun from the value they get.
@@xenochronos1587 most commanders can be built in many ways. Casual, fun, try hard.. whatever the case may be. Brago from my experience likes to be staxy and or control and can be very annoying.
idk I don't view avacyn as all that powerful. Threat assessment wasn't that great from opponents, but I don't consider board wipes all that powerful. I would say that torment is boring, but board wipes are not necessarily, but thats just me.
If the format is boardwipes then make a xenagos cruise missile deck or a deck with next to no creatures or a deck packed full of indestructible creatures

I actually enjoyed this game! The whole tier/power level thing is subjective. Everyone has their own idea of what they consider low power and high power. I’ve ran into this issue all the time on paper! I just tell people to play what they want because I’m gonna play what I want anyways lol 😂
It didn't help that the Brago player clearly didn't know what he was doing.... Maybe the person is at their friend's house playing their friend's Brago deck. Never played Brago or never played a game of Commander.
What a weird take. That’s what you took away from this? He didn’t complain about not being left alone. He complained that in a low tier game there was a player who comboed off with field and kodama (looked like a high power lands matter deck to me) and someone who wanted to wipe the board every two turns. Go to some kitchen table casual magic and play decks like that. See how they react. There is no way in hell either of those decks were low tier. I don’t know what you were watching.
@@Station9.75 I was commenting specifically on “board wipe tribal.” That’s about as casual as it gets. Go to any semi-competent table and pull out your “board wipe tribal” deck and see how you do. That’s what stuck out to me.
@@KSE828 - Yeah yours is the typical mentality of “it ain’t cEDH so it’s casual!” It’s such a backwards way to think about it. Wiping the board ever couple of turns is boring and makes a game go on forever. I want to play Magic, not watch you play Magic.
