This song is catastrophically underrated. It's easily one of my top 10 Ghost songs, and i really wish more people listened to it because its so, for lack of a better term, delicious. So dark but yet so heavenly.

@Spicy_Meatball "Aspera" is the plural form for the latin adjective "asper", meaning "rough", "hard". In this form, which is the neutral one, it doesn't refer to a specific thing: it's simply "rough things"/"hard situations". It can be translated as "through difficulties to hell", as it mocks the original latin proverb "per aspera ad astra", "through difficulties to stars". Such a long annoying comment, I know. Hmm, this is the first time I'm listening to this band and when the music started playing, I expected either some nice raspy voice or some death growls. Don't really like clean male vocals in metal. Although, if it sounded more like church singing blended with metal, that might be pretty cool.

The first time I heard this was at rock on the range in Columbus Ohio. I had never heard of ghost they were playing on a side stage outside the main stadium. Again this was 2013

Almost BoC ish on the the vocals. This is up there with Year Zero and Miasma as my favorite Ghost songs. Per aspera ad astra is kind of a positive motto....your hardships today will have a payoff ultimately. I prefer this saying as if you go through life expecting to be rewarded for your hardships you will be in for disappointments. Best to just expect more hardships, anything good will then be a bonus.

Andrea Plain It's as if someone looked up "hell" in a Latin dictionary, found "inferi," and didn't realize Latin is an inflected language. "Ad" governs the accusative case, so "inferos" would be correct. This sort of error can be found throughout all of Ghost's Latin titles or lyrics. Nevertheless, I still love the band :)

Ah, I see! I have a friend who is semi-obsessed with "decoding" the song lyrics. He spent no telling how many days hidden in his house working their first album as if it were The Da Vince Code. Hahaha. I too love the band, they have a unique- haunting sound that I've grown extremely find of. Perhaps "Inferi" just gave the song that perfect ring. Or, perhaps being from Sweden they aren't as fluent in Latin as they think. ;) Either way my husband and I will be making the trek to St. Louis this year to see them a third time. Nice talking to you, and thank you for the feedback.
