Second, this is an entire different universe we're dealing here. Third, the movie haven't got released yet, so why to judge? Despite origin-story changes, Mamoru Oshii has gone on record saying the new live-action film will “honor” the source material. This movie won't ruin the franchise for us true fans, but will actually draw fans in!

If you're a long time fan then I'm surprise it isn't bothering you more? The major and us as an audience never had any questions about her past. It was told very straightforward multiple times in all the GIS media, and has been used as an explanation for a lot of the issues the major was dealing with. I.E her watch which she got once she could control her body, and stopped changing them. Ghost pain as shown in the arise series, heck they even state in SAC that she's such a great hacker BECAUSE she was put in it so young. So to change her whole backstory is basically nulling a lot of the character development we got from the series. Not to mention currently, Arise is playing the origin story for us even though its from a different creator, but at least they're staying true to the characters and the information presented to us. Plus where's the crime solving and where's the team. There seems to be a lot missing here and in it's place are a few cool fight scenes.

This movie is based on Stand Elon Complex. They took two seasons of that anime and morphed it into a movie, and based off what I've seen in the anime, they've given away nothing

depends on the character and what features you talking about. Usually only the eyes look european if they colored it blue, noone has purple eyes . The hair can be taken as european too if its blonde or brown, but any other color is again neutrally neither.The rest of the character looks pretty asian. Small boned, rounder head not oval, flatter faced, lower nose, and over all demeanor are usually more asian (most characters). Example, Scarlett's nose bridge is way too high for this character, her body matches though. They shoulda got a mixed race girl to play. Olivia Munn coulda have pulled it off.

The only thing borrowed from the movies are the action scenes. They're changing the whole plot, I doubt there's going to be any of the classic Ghost in the Shell dialog just to keep it simple for all ages, so far there's no crime mystery, and Section 9 seems to be pushed on to the back burner. This plot, this "you were lied to, this is who you really are" has never been an issue for the major in any of the GITS media, and isn't canon what so ever.

Yeah, it's soooo nice to see them following the story beats of the original film and NOT resorting to a "main character is being lied to by her allies" story. -_- Wouldn't want to tackle the immensely deep question of having a soul and how much machine makes you not human anymore. No no no.

In the Arise version, she doesnt have amnesia, but she doesnt know anything about her past, and later she founds out about her parents and a " plot " to " weaponize " cyberized kids ( or something like that ), i dont know if they are going with the amnesia plot line, if they go with the Arise origin story, amnesia is never a factor really.

What made the GITS movies so good is that they never tried to tell a complete story, instead you were offered a window into a possible future and told to "walk it off" regarding any mental strain. The series was even more intense (the first season less so) with no hand-holding the way regular international TV does esplaining everything in unneeded LONG repetitive detail and instead throwing tons of advanced political/philisophical thinking at you not caring whether you sink or swim... that not even the movie's "lite" elegant version of telling the story is gonna happen is obvious now.... not unexpected though since hollywood has the attention span of a goldfish and the jewelery taste of a crow.

Its taking its story from the 2003-2005 Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex which is regarded as a very good series look it up first before saying its generic.

It's the plot of Stand Alone Complex's two seasons molded into one story with scenes borrowed from the movies. All of those borrowed from singular chapters of the manga, so they're sticking to the most original source the manga, rather than the movie.

Osman Ali Khan yes, director said he will mash up all the best parts of whole material together but i have a bad feeling basically they will throw smth ala Dragon Ball Evo "plot edits" to retcon Kusanagi origins differently then in SAC series.

I don't think it'll be bad because *SPOILER* The antagonist in the movie seems to have the personality and appearance of the antagonist from Season 2. His relationship with Major seems to also be intact from what I see in the trailer. However, his abilities and name, the Puppet Master, belong to the Season 1 antagonist. This makes sense because Season 2's antagonist was more flushed out in terms of character development, while Season 1's antagonist had better motivations and a better arc. So they took the best parts from both villains (I don't know if I should call them that because, they weren't really bad guys, but rather were something along the lines of Anonymous; people who use unethical means to fight for the greater good). Parts which seem to be pissing off fans in the comments actually exist in the anime (1:56 and while the dialogue "They created me, but cannot control me" isn't really anime, it makes sense in the context of Season 2). There are also direct scenes borrowed from both the 1995 movie and its sequel, Innocence. Some parts do concern me though, like Major saying "How many were before me?" That's something that I haven't seen before, but I'm not saying it's not from the source material as I haven't seen Arise or read the manga and may be from that. So like I said, from everything I saw, only very little seems new. Even then, none of this will matter if the execution is poor or excellent.

I seem to have wrongfully said the name of the antagonist in Season 1 of Standalone Complex is 'the Puppet Master'. It's actually 'the Laughing Man'. I remember reading an article saying that his name was borrowed from Season 1 of SAG, but can't seem to find it anywhere so scratch that, which means, this based on Season 2 of SAG and not Season 1
