I was thinking the same thing but I looked at some concert footage and the hands aren't shaped the same.

Not a ghoul, but pretty good. He's got great fingers, but moving them too much, lifting them too far off the fretboard, lots of energy expended (Joint friction) and efficiency lost. Being a guitarist is a perishable finite skill. Anyone who plays an instrument should adopt the philosophy of "quality of time remaining". Our joints wear out, our tendons become slack and lose elasticity or other things depending on genetics, we simply lose our ability. One way a guitarist can get the greatest amount of longevity is by moving as little as possible. Play with as much efficiency and as little movement as possible, not for the purpose of playing fast, although it does dramatically improve speed, but rather for the sake of moving less and prolonging our "quality of time remaining". Issues are already presenting themselves, If you observe at 1:39, has to shake wrist and elbow out because it's going numb or getting kinked... Doing the right or left hand shake out is common amongst players with less efficient movements and/or too much pressure and tension. Take a look at discussions from Kiko Loureiro, Frank Gambale and Al di Meola among others to get tips and insights into efficiency. Three fantastic players who have had great longevity. Steve Vai has paid the price for his style... He had to have surgery this last year... I love Steve Vai.

YES - Do yourself a favor and get Guitar Pro 8 - this current version of the software is the first one to introduce the option of adding the actual track and sync it to the Tab. From there you can slow down specific parts, loop them and learn them by building your muscle memory from slower speed to increasingly faster up to the record tempo. It also helps a lot to figure out the correct tabs. There's a couple mistakes here - but this might be the closest to the studio version I have found so far. Also - getting the right Lead tone with not too much gain helps in getting the left hand tapping parts as clean as possible.
