I believe this was meant to be a game adaptation of the romanticized black and white films, so it's not really aiming to be historically accurate like kingdom come nominally was

Warhorse could make a game about home ownership awsome. It would have the most immersive gutter cleaning, lawn mowing, trim painting and mortgage paying mechanics ever. The main character would be accurately portrayed yet relatable and likeable at the same time. You'd fall off the roof a lot in the beginning but if you stuck to it you'd own that home.

Nice video. But I have to smart ass a bit. Technically it's not ancient Japan since ancient usually refers to the time before christ. The mongol invasion happened in the 1280s (aacording to wikipedia, I honestly did not know that the mongols invaded Japan before I goodled that game). So it's more like middle ages Japan, at least how we count the time in europe.

I think Most games blow and even I thought this game was one of the best games I ever played. The combat was incredible. The landscape was incredible. The story was fun and the collectibles were the appropriate level of challenging. Game was like a 9.5/10. The fuckin horse riding is better than red dead which is all about horse riding.

Some knights and samurai certainly did live up too bushido and the idea of chivalry however they were the exception too the rule . As an example the real life knight in Peirrie de bayard and I probably butchered his name he’s French I’m American at any rate he was known in his own lifetime as the “Good” knight keep in mind this is a matter of perspective.

Seriously though, people need to stop taking the Hagakure as the final word on samurai culture.

It's a completely cookie cutter game but so well made it's hard to stop. Hell, I'm almost done with it and I've been struggling to finish Days Gone because that fucker keeps having to refuel the world's smallest motorcycle fuel tank and can't slightly bend sideways to pick up some flowers. So you have to get off the bike, get flower, get on bike, turn said bike on, turn the headlights off and then carry on. It's such a fucking hassle... Not to mention he takes longer to kill a basic zombie then it takes me to mow down enough Mongolians to fill a bus. Anyways, thanks for another great review! And I'm sorry but my self restraint failed me on this... it did hold up on the other end and I didn't buy The Last if Us when I picked up Ghost. Naughty Dog will have to wait a little longer to get my money again

BTW (in my Opinion) the best Descriptions of Samurai Japan and Society: (very Grim) Kozure Ōkami by Kazuo Koike & Gōseki Kojima (Lone Wolf & Cup) and Usagi Yojimbo by Stan Sakai (with folklore Tales) followed by everything by Yoshikawa Eiji. Great Essay... Cheers P.S. bought a used Bluray of the Game for 25€ 4 weeks after launch. PLayed it for 20 Hours or so... stopped because of the repetitive Nature of the Mid-Game... i throw my towel... and btw now there is a Director's Cut DLC... F*** Sony... and happy Hunting...

It's hard to find a gem theses days in gaming, most of the time the triple a gaming company's try there hardest to stop developers with good games having any pr or advertisment because God forbid the young generation see and experience what an actual good game is like. Kingdom come deliverance, total war Warhammer the Witcher 3 was also great but it actually got advertised but caused cyberpunk to have high expectations.

Yeah that's a great way to put it. Anyone calling it a masterpiece is a total brainlet. Still a great game and possibly GOTY if this year doesn't have anything other than TLOU2.

I like this game The atmosphere and all that the fighting was cool The decision on whether or not to be a man when you battle these people or a coward and hiding the shadows I thought that was pretty interesting and the game was gorgeous and on a PS4 pro the load times were almost no not there which really upset me because why the hell can everybody else do that. But just like every game that comes out you play it for two three weeks and you start seeing flaws in every aspect of the game very few games have totally blown me away.

I was so impressed with the skills of the women in this game particularly the one “Battle Granny” who was holding off an entire squad of mongols single handily while waiting for me to come so she could order me about. Got to love them battle grannies

Plot: "Goddamn Mongorians!" Graphics: "I wish real life was that beautiful" Looting: "I'm a compulsive hoarder with severe OCD now" Fighting: "I'd rather be dishonorable than dead" Historic accuracy: "Look! A fox!" But all in all - a fun game.

I would dearly, dearly love an historically accurate, KCD-style violence, drinking, and peasant-abusing simulator set in feudal Japan.

It's unique for the modern era simply owing to the fact that it's a complete single player experience from launch. That's something you don't see much anymore.

But this game never claimed that to begin with. This game is a homage to the old Akira Korusawa movies like Seven Samurai and Yojimbo. The developters themself said this game is not historically accurate, but made to have FUN.

I agree with you Ghost was not original but it was fun. Romanticized bs but I don’t need a realistic look at feudal society because that is what history books are for. The game was entertaining, the combat was what it should be fun, and the story served it’s purpose, while it could have been better it was good. Especially for the medium. It’s not perfect but it’s so much fun.

I know this is an older video but I actually like reading about the Mongolian artifacts you find in the game, sucker punch didn’t just portray the Mongols as pure dogs 100% throughout the world. (Only about 98% of the time)

this game is basically what a good Assassins Creed game in the modern era should be. Don't expect realism or accuracy, but just hop on and roleplay as some badass Samurai assassin for a few hours because why not

Favorite game I've ever played. PS5 version is excellent. No load times, smooth play with no glitches, very immersive, fun and intriguing game play, gorgeous open world.
