Ghost Recon Breakpoint has been on quite the journey over the years. The game had a terrible launch but over time slowly but surely made a good comeback. A couple weeks ago I went over the positives of Ghost Recon Breakpoint and the things I felt it did right, so today we're here to talk about some of those issues that remain in the game and what lead to its poor launch.

I strongly agree, my biggest issue with this game is the drones they ruin the immersion and makes stealth feel impossible, when you blow up a drone in stealth they get suspicious it’s so annoying.

I got in long after most of the glitches were fixed and gear score was gone, so story is what is lowest for me. The wolves and walker do hard carry it but just aren't there enough. Walker should've felt like a presence like Sueno in Wildlands. I always hated the outcasts and homesteaders too, it should've been like working with the remnants of a skell security force that was there before sentinel was hired and US marines from the carrier that kept getting mentioned. Working with these dinky people who just were lame really hurt the story.

If they wanted to add survival elements (since you’re supposed to be in a deadly/hostile environment) they should’ve scrapped the home base feature and instead went for more of a MGS3 feel. Having to hunt for food in the wild and being able to set up camp anywhere would be much more satisfying than just fast traveling back to some little home base no one cares about. It’s a safe feeling place where you can just spawn in vehicles and whatever else you want, and that really detracts from the “survivor” feel.

one think breakpoint messed up was with the behemoth drones, even when you're supposedly hitting the weakpoints they are tanky AF and even though they got some glowing blue things those only shut them down for a bit instead of actually doing lasting damage like slowing their tracks or stuff

I think Auroa was a beautiful setting actually. Moving through the rainforest during a rain storm or across mountain peaks at sunset was genuinely moving for me and reminded of how games are truly an art form even though the limitations of last gen really held it back. I never played when it was a looter shooter but immersive mode on hardest difficulty really addresses any problems i had with it being to 'divisiony'. Overall I really enjoyed the setting of a corrupted utopia. There were many times I thought about how much I'd like to live on Auroa and it made me angry that sentinal had ruined it. A lot of the story was campy but the major chracters were actually well developed people. I really like how Nomad was a little bit sassy. He came off as a guy who wasn't happy about the situation his principles had gotten him into but he was going to stick them regardless. A much more well developed version of the character than wildlands. The gunplay is certainly better than wildlands and so is the gameplay (no hud, max tactical difficulty) in general with a few exceptions. Not being able to set multiple C4 charges across a base really pissed me off. A game that could be better and could have recovered if the publisher didnt bail out.

I actually really liked this island, story and setting. I just wish there was more tactical complexity. Ideally, there should be something in the spirit of MGS V. The game is already very similar, but something is missing. Operation Motherland had missions that made the game more interesting, such as destroying vehicles without raising the alarm. Ubisoft just needs to be a little more creative

Your criticisms of Breakpoint are valid. I've been playing since launch and absolutely love the game despite it's many flaws. Immersive mode definitely saved the game, however, it wasn't immersive enough for me :P. My play style is all about restrictions in this game. If you want a really fun "Survival Mode/Lone Ghost" style of play for Breakpoint, try this: - Start an new game on Immersive Mode with Extreme Difficulty. No HUD or very limited HUD. One primary weapon, few bandages, injuries on high. - DO NOT select any Class or skills. Zero. So, no Parachute or Night Vision throughout the entire game and extremely limited crafting. - No vehicle spawning or fast travel (unless your stuck in the map). If you want to fly a Helicopter you have to steal one. Same for vehicles. Also, all vehicles have fuel or power. Ranging from 5-10 minutes depending on the vehicle. Small helicopter is 5 mins. Bigger one is 10, for example. - AI Teammates. If you want to use AI Teammates you first have to "rescue" them from Wolf Encampments that are holding Outcasts. - You can only change your weapons and gear at Erewhon (via their 3D printer and supplies) or stuff you've taken off dead Wolves, Sentinels, and Outcasts. Weapons, backpacks, vests, clothes, etc. - Dress for the weather. T-shirts, tank tops, and rolled up sleeves when its warm, jacket, scarves, and gloves for the cold, etc. - Crafting can only be done in Erewhon or a bivouac. If you run out of bandages during a firefight...oh well. - Backpacks. If your using a backpack you have access to your entire inventory. If you're not wearing one you only have access to what's on your inventory wheel. So plan accordingly if you want to sneak into a base with an ultra low profile. - Food. This is optional really. You can eat and drink at a bivouac for that extra bit of immersion. This style requires a LOT of discipline to say the least. It can be very tempting to break the rules at first but after a while it becomes more natural and you may end up restricting yourself more, like only being able to steal a helicopter if there is a Bagman on the base that has the "keys" and you'll need to kill him first! ;)

Playing with the HUD completely off, immersive mode and changing the world parameters to have drones off and the resistance in the world makes it pretty decent, but these days I usually just play the PvP since it's unique in it's own right, too bad PvP requires gear score though, doesn't really seem to affect me much as I can kill someone at a much higher GS than me anyway.

Aside from the ones in the video I would say my biggest poblem was actually the enemy faction. Going up against a military organization just felt so...mundane? Wildlands was such a nice throwback to og Ranbow Six with its drug cartels and terrorists,Breakpoint going back to Soldier on Soldier action just felt really uninspired. Didnt help that only the enemy profited from the drone-focused setting while the player was stuck with just a hover drone(no seriously,if you already have to choose such a boring scenario, why not at least go wild with it like Future Soldier?).

For me, it's general movement and the new pre-animations before you start moving. It should not take a half second to turn your character and another second to start moving. Ghost Recon is a tactical shooter where precise movement is the key to everything. It should have remained strafing for low to medium speeds (where the camera is at your back always), and free cam for sprinting. I see people defending this glorified input lag as "realism", but I'd say go watch any tactical shooting drill videos/ active combat footage/ MMA/ Boxing/ Baseball/ Basketball/ Soccer, or any physical human activity to see that we naturally use strafing footwork in "real life" athleticism. You're not getting shot at in a war setting and slowly planting your feet and turning your side towards the enemy to jog out of danger. They need to go back to Wildlands/older titles movements. They could make more dynamic and realistic strafing animations. You should not be fighting sticky cover and locomotion mechanics in a game like this. I love and hate this game so much. And a dedicated 'interact' button press instead of this "hold x" to interact. ffs 😂

Another opinion: missions are so boring, I tried to get on breakpoint again recently and honestly every mission I do I never end up finishing, it doesn’t feel engaging at all. Every side character felt so boring when they talked and the villains in this game felt so watered down. In wildlands, it’s actually really cool the way they brief us individually about every villan and side villan we are up against. Plus the banter between nomad and the squad, breakpoint they hardly even talk at all other than give callouts. Customization in breakpoint in my opinion is better but it doesn’t make up for the lack of a good story and open world that feels extremely lifeless

You forgot 1 major point Storywise..... the horrible cutscenes.... In Wildlands your character is shown in the cutscene how YOU dressed him or her BUT in Breakpoint your character is always only shown with the minimum of equipment although you give him or her Balaclava or different masks, helmets, glasses etc. ALL those things gets stripped away if a cutscene starts and after it ends, your character is wearing everything again.. the way you dressed. That's espacially annoying during Missions where you fight enemies but during the fight you have to talk with a character. So it goes from wearing all your gear to wearing only pants, shirt and platecarrier and a pistol back to wearing all your gear again.

What they should've done is to make some civilian NPCs attack the player at random or at different times. So that way it can make things more interesting. Instead of "I am a friendly NPC trope". Which I don't know why it felt forced when you go to the "main camp" and being "safe". It removes the "survival" aspect IMO.

You can turn off the majority of the drones, excluding specific spawns that can be ignored, and some missions, and during combat where some sentinels can deploy drones that take very few shots to destroy. Breakpoint has much better monetization than Wildlands, it has more free cosmetics available than Wildlands, and Wildlands had loot boxes. Personally I do think Aurora is worse than Bolivia but at the same time don't think it's offensively bad. I do really wish breakpoint had that feeling of being hunted more prevalent since it's marketing gave a strong impression of such.

First second on the game and it was running at 1 fps because you have to lower your terrain quality to LOW or else it lags after you pause. First minute I realized how delayed the movement feels, especially noticable when you press a,d,a,d repeatedly. If you think thats not a delay, theres a brain issue... First hour I was complaining about how I had to sit through long pointless dialogue that was unskippable and I had to just stand there and watch... Sometimes while being shot at, or in the middle of an objective, then I talk to someone since its effecient to get it out the way while im there, then they take 5 mins of my time in the middle of my immersion to tell me some pointless stuff. First day on the game I realized HOW POINTLESS EVERYTHING IS... all the side missions, all the blueprints, everything. Once you have your desired setup... now what? clear a base like you haven't already done that on repeat? First week on the game and decided to start a new character and ONLY DO MAIN MISSIONS until I beat the game. First month this game will be lucky if Im still playing it in a month. I want to beat it and uninstall this abandoned game that could have been as groundbreaking as fortnite, they just failed immensely at the most MINOR details, and I mean that literally. THE MOST! MINOR DETAILS! SO MUCH WRONG WITH THIS GAME. IT HAS SO MUCH POTENTIAL AND THEY QUIT LUL

2:30 I think nails it on the head. The game world lacks culture, and history. Which is true due to the context of the island. But there is no cultural significance to the island. It's a lifeless, soulless location. Another issue is the design of the missions. Motherland does rectify the issues somewhat, but Wildlands gave you multiple goals that felt self-driven by comparison.

I believe the story line was boring as well as there were several other ways the game story could've gone which were highlighted in wildlands. The thing about the wildlands story line was it was a semi realistic story line which most people could relate to. At the end of wildlands where sueno was caught the dialouge they talked about consisted of break off catels terrorist cells. I do understand they may have gotten into trouble for highlighting Bolivia but they could've gone maybe to eastern Europe Asia based open world made off of a strange name and make the atmosphere even more lively than wildlands. The skell story line was so boring and they ripped off fallen ghosts off of wildlands to create motherland to keep players interested in breakpoint. I only have one positive out of breakpoint and that's the more realistic gun player with bullet drop and recoil

There's about 3 biomes that are actually different from eachother. There's also almost nothing going on apart from random small patrols.

I really want the next iteration of Ghost Recon to draw inspiration from Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction, with the action taking place in North Korea. Frankly, Ghost Recon Breakpoint failed to meet my expectations, and I struggle to comprehend why the developers strayed from the semi-realistic backdrop of Wildlands.

I actually didn't mind the loot , gave you rewards, and pushed you to use new weapons. I still played in ghost mode just kept the tiers it makes it easy to dismantle weapons and get A LOT of crafting materials.

My biggest disappointment with the game was it was marketed as "You are badass special forces guy, being hunted by other bad ass special forces guys" i mean the name is literally "breakpoint' Implying youd reaching your characters breaking point.. only to find out it refers to the players breaking point of boredom. I purposely didnt watch gameplay or reviews when it came out cus i was excited by the concept. but the second i left the main base and realized i was given A FUCKING HELICOPTER i immediately lost any hope or hype left in me. Like i wanted an experience where im cut off from resources, i have to do Wolverine red dawn type shit to survive. To get a helicopter or other flying transportation takes time, effort, and risk. Getting good weapons and ammo for them would take some effort. (I was not a part of previous installments of Ghost Recon when i bought Breakpoint so I didnt know this didnt fit the ghost recon franchise anyway this just what i thought would happen from all the ads i saw)

Land a helicopter, go to mission, grab a boat, complete mission, head back to chopper - its gone. Likewise, wipe out a base, blow up sam sites, travel 5 minutes up the road, then return to find ALL npc's and sam sites etc all respawned and back to nornal. Like wtf kind of dumb af mechanic was that to put in your game?!

To be honest I'm a fan of both games, and I enjoyed Breakpoint more, compared to wildlands, as it was a major upgrade, in terms of gunplay. However in terms of storytelling it was alright, but it wasn't the best, but it wasn't bad, in my opinion, so in other words, Wildlands story, on the other hand, was much better, as it had much better depth, compared to breakpoints story. Now both games are in their own ways, how ever Interms of progression and storytelling Wildlands, dose it much better than breakpoint, etc. Now onto the open world aspect of the game, I would have to say, Wildlands dose better than Breakpoint, as there is plenty of things for you to do, compared to Breakpoint. Breakpoints open world is good, but it isn't terrible, but it isn't the best, as it should have been worked on, just abit more. By now I think you get the picture of what I'm getting at. Now onto the things I don't like about both games. The main thing I really hate about Breakpoint is that you need a constant online connection, so if you want to buy and play the game, without having a constant online connection, we'll.. You're shit out of luck, as the game will just soft lock you, until you get a online connection. Which means that if you are poor and can't afford an internet connection, then I highly recommend that you don't buy Ghost Recon Breakpoint. Now with Wildlands, the main thing that I don't like, is how Ubisoft being Ubisoft, locked abunch of the cool items, behind a loot box paywall, which isn't too bad, as Ubisoft gave you in game currency for you to grind, and another thing I hate about Wildlands is that, it's a little grindy compared to Breakpoint, as majority of the items are mostly locked behind a paywall. As for Breakpoint, on the other hand, majority of the ingane items, aren't, and alot of them can be optained, but of course the cool stuff were actually locked behind a multiplayer mode, called the raid, which didn't really set well with alot of players, myself included, to the point we're Ubisoft made another update, where you can optain those items, while playing game, which ultimately saved Ubisoft from being criticized to oblivion, in my opinion. For breakpoint, and I think you might all agree on this one, is the God damn drones, and yes I understand that they are only in the game, to make it more difficult, and Balance out the game, but they are just so God damn annoying, however thankfully, Ubisoft added an update, that ultimately saved breakpoint, that basically allows you to play however you want, and you can actually disable certain enemy types, etc, so this is minor issue. Now I personally don't mind the drones, but they can be a huge pain in the ass if you don't have the patience for them. Now Interms of progression, Wildlands dose better than breakpoint, as you're character, actually has a skill progression system, that for some reason Breakpoint dose not, but instead is replaced with the shity class system, which is fine, but it can get annoying, where you have to constantly switch classes to use certain weapons better, it's not a bad idea but I would prefer Wildlands skill pregression System over Breakpoints crappie class perk system. Now Interms of gameplay and Gunplay I will have to say Breakpoint dose better at then Wildlands, as you're character, actually his fluidity in his movement, and just overall feels more tactical, and realistic, compared to you're character in Wildlands, where you're character, just feels more stiff like. For gunplay Breakpoint dose better at, as it looks and feels more realistic, compared to wildlands gunplay.

So far I think this game is much better than wildlands. While I can understand about Bolivia vs aurora. However, I prefer a life like environment that fits the story. Not a video game level that was clearly made for video game reasons. Bolivia was pretty bland in scenery unless you love desolate environments. I much prefer forests and pretty scenery.

The game, despite having good ideas, deserves its horrible reputation. Fun could...hypothetically, be had but there is alot of pretending you have to do to trick yourself into thinking the game was better designed. Ghost Recon is not Farcry, its not Splintercell, its not Assassins Creed. Immersive mode was better, but because loot was intended to be the main driver of progression, turning it off makes the world even more bland then it already was. Yes, roleplaying is always fun, but why can't those features and restrictions we self impose on ourselves ACTUALLY be in the game? The story was seemingly directed by Steven Segal because its GOD AWFUL, which is sad because it had ideas with potential. Survival mechanics are pretty meaningless and have little impact. How hasnt the tech for our AI teammates improved at all? Why do they have no personality? Why do they keep moving when I say stop? Why dies the game have no personality? FarCry 2 still feels like the most immersive game we'll get from ubisoft and thats sad. Yes, you can have "fun" in the game, but it does not excuse all the bad in it. Cristism is the only way the next game isn't another bland medicore ubisoft game.

Breakpoint feels so clunky. Just basic movement, climbing up ladder etc lacks control and at times your character does whatever but not what you tell him to. Thats my biggest issue. I love RPG. Even like this.
