Definitely deserved. Ghost started in 2010 and in the past 9 years went from playing small gigs to large arenas. They put out 4 great and diverse albums. Received 3 Grammy nominations and won for Cirice. Years ago I watched the music video for Secular Haze and immediately fell in love with the old school sound and melodic vocals. Ghost is my favorite modern band. With so many legends getting old, dying or going on farewell tours, we need newer bands to carry the torch. More people should respect the past and embrace the future.
I saw secular haze for the first time 3 years ago and i thought it was so hilarious and weird and different they've never disappeared from my life ever since
Tobias is such a genius. Not only that he is so extremely well-spoken. He’s a great and super skilled musician, a talented actor and a very creative person. And he speaks English soooo well.
@@rottenfist220 I’m sorry what? I’d suggest you actually look into him more. Well, and I didn’t only mention his musical skill in my comment above now, did I? I don’t understand comments like yours. If you don’t like certain people or content posted, then it’s always better to just ignore them/it. You’re just pushing the algorithm. Good, though. Have a good day.
I love that Graham lets Tobias speak without interrupting like so many other interviewers. We adore and follow Ghost because no two of their songs sound alike. Ghost's discography is the only one my family and I consistently shuffle and it never gets old.
Forge is a brilliant composer, performer, and master of stagecraft, and has a three dimensional business sense AND a solid work ethic. The whole package.
I sometimes think about how much I would have loved to grow up with Ozzy or Maiden being the "new shit", but then I remember that I got the blessing of being able to grow up with Ghost.
I grew up with maiden. Last night I sat with am 8yo boy, watching Ghost, and it was awesome. We *both* love this shit. And the little fella is pretty excited about Maiden too. Its an honor to walk that path again with a new new generation of little metal heads.
Saw Ghost in 2011, everyone was looking around at each other wondering what they were seeing. Saw them a couple weeks ago in london, was insane seeing the size of that crowd and everyone singing along. Such a huge growth with the stageshow too.
I can't stop laughing at Graham's expression while Forge is talking. Lol. He's obviously loving this, and it's fun to see. He has a wonderful job, and over the years I've become a fan of Graham as an interviewer, in the same way I'm a fan of Tobias as a creator. He's good at what he does.
Yeah, totally agree about picking Ghost for the artist of the decade. Tobias is the coolest, always honest and very interesting to listen to. And he is total monster on stage. Reminds me of Fredie a lot.
He is not honest! He ripped off all former members of the band, and that is why he records with one set of musicians and tours with another. He was sued and lost the case. Bands like THC would have been a better pick for metal band of the decade. Listen to the keyboard part of the song, sound familiar? Try White Zombie, who grabbed that sound from old monster movies and TV shows like The Munsters.
Tobias is so talented and fascinating. I haven't been able to stop listening to Ghost since I discovered them. Also this is the best interviewer I've ever seen, such calm and respectful energy without interrupting the artist.
Well onstage a lot of it is scripted and of course a different character. Here I’m sure he has to think quite a bit more especially since English isn’t his first language.
I love how whenever we cut to the interviewer, he nods and has a smile across his face because he realizes how genuine & brilliant Tobias is over and over.
Interviewer asked good questions and made sure to remain silent and gave Tobias the space for him to work his way through his thoughts, it must be hard to remain silent as you would just want to chat, but you may inadvertently put words in his mouth. I really enjoyed this, great job.
He 100% deserves it. He’s immensely knowledgable and aware of how to approach his craft. He’s a very switched on guy and a realist. From every interview I’ve watched with him he honours his influences in so many ways but uses them in such a way to paint a clear picture and idea of what he wants to manifest. He never limits himself, he pushes the boundaries and refuses to stagnate as you can quite clearly here in his explanation of the progression of Ghost. Hands down deserves all the recognition he can get for what he does because he’s in my eyes a true inspiration for future metal and music enthusiasts.
You know, I hated Ghost. I saw them on TV once and thought it was pure bullshit musically and visually. And I heard a song. Then one more. Still went "Bah!" Until, gradually, I started tapping my feet to some song. Then another. Then started actually seeking out the music to see if there was anything I liked. And there was. A lot of it just grew on me, and a lot of it I liked right off the bat. I guess My 2010s have been very much coloured by Ghost and, nearing the end of the decade, they're my favourite band.
I wouldn't exactly call him a "stand up guy" he under pays his band because he doesn't actually believe they are in the band but that they are just stand in musicians and should be happy they have the opportunity to play with him.
Lol @ the salty comments in this thread. Ghost was, from the start, Forge's project and he has the paper work to back that up. There's no evidence of him underpaying his band. Nor is there any rule against leaving the band, should the person not like the salary they get for playing arenas.
@@LoudnessJP there's no evidence of him unpaying his band because all of the money went through his own company, so nobody else has seen the financial records. The entire court case was asking to SEE those records, so the former ghouls could work out by how much they got screwed over. The current touring band (since 2017) are just hired contractors, that wasn't the case for the original ghouls where any band changes happened organically like a normal band (voting and discussing and what not)
Powerslave is probably Maiden's greatest album and also it's fifth. Tobias has mentioned it quite a bit while leading up to Ghost's fifth album that he'll be recording next year.
I love that Graham got to interview Tobias, his expressions are so wholesome and I totally agree with Ghost earning the title. I saw them twice this year, in Hamburg in February and then in London this month. totally worth flying over for that haha
Ghost is one of the best bands of the 2010's, hopefully this comment doesn't get infested with annoying metal elitists who think good music is defined by how heavy it is.
Metal is so toxic nowadays that if some kind of new Black Sabbath appeared today they would be considered shit because "it's not traditional metal" or "it's not as heavy as cannibal corpse so they suck". It's a dying genre not because of the bands but because of the toxic fandom.
Congrats to Tobias Forge! I agree with his voice on albums and his voice at the shows is slightly different. He is very creative and smart and sweet. I hope he continues his genius ways. Rockin that Maiden shirt. 🤘🏼up the irons!
Seems like Tobias would be a cool guy to hang out with. Not your typical rockstar, full of themselves. His humbleness, and awkwardness, makes A great interview to listen to. Every time
My wife and I are huge fans of Ghost! Our first dance at our wedding was to Life Eternal, one of our favorite songs of all time. Tobias, you are an inspiration and one of the great songwriters of our generations, keep being humble and being you!
He’s a great interview. Been fun watching them evolve since 2010. Tobias is a very talented guy on several fronts. He deserves success and obviously works hard for his rewards.
the way tobias think is mind blowing, my man can do crazy good performances that involves theatrical stuffs plus his amazing lyrics, he deserve all the recognition and much more
The first time I saw Ghost they totally blew me away and then became one of my favorite bands. Tobias seems like an intelligent dude and he's also a genius.
If Tobias hates wearing the mask so much; I'm sure fans would so down for him to wear a half face skull, or just to paint his face like a skull. Even like a red skull paint would be badass. He can at least take a break from wearing it for a few years.
I imagined the plan early on was to shed a little more of the mask each album, and slowly get rid of it, but for whatever reason the lawsuit and forced unmasking of Mr. Forge blew that plan up. I’m sure he loves being able to do interviews now as himself, but probably feels like his own image would take away from the music at this point
I would love to see them be able to completely unmask and play like he's dressed now... some day. It would shut up the haters that think they are another kiss, gimmick band.
I met Cardi C last year and I have no recollection at all of what I said to him because I was fanboying so hard. Super nice guy once I genuflected at his feet...
The cut-away shots of the interviewer are priceless. He may as well have had stars streaming from his eyes and dreamy harp music playing. I get where he’s coming from! TF is so talented and intriguing, even when he’s rambling, I can’t help but be mesmerized! Most entertaining live band I’ve ever seen.
Find someone who looks at you the way Graham looks at Tobias Forge. 😍 Can’t believe I had no idea Ghost existed until about a month ago. Now I am in deep smit and trolling every online source for more content. MORE.
Same here just about! I live across the street from a venue they were playing in October. Bought a ticket the morning of the show, right up front on a whim. Changed my life forever!
renjamin renoir III, esq “Deep smit”....😝 I’m stealing that! And yeah, I’m on a quest to find someone with that kind of glee. Who can blame him...Tobias is captivating.
I've been to many gigs, seen some very big bands, I saw ghost last month in Nottingham and I was right near the front and when I walked out I knew I'd been to the best gig I've ever been to...they were absolutely incredible 🤘
@@benstocks7449 he probably doesn't like the change of musicians around that period. I loved the guitarist's then too. Omega was awsome but the new crew are really fun too. I think actually they are just improving with age.
This is so great. I admire him as a speaker so much, in addition to all his other roles in Ghost. I especially envy how he's not afraid to let there be lapses of silence while he think of his answers. It may be natural, it may be learned, but whatever it is, it definitely makes you hang on his every word and makes his response style so cool yet measured. Thanks for this, Loudwire!
Gotta say, the whole lawsuit thing did good in making interviews like this possible. Without Forge's identity being widely revealed with the lawsuit, it probably would have been those gimmicky in-character interviews til the end of time. Much more interesting when it's not someone playing a character. There's only so far a shtick can work.
I agree. And also something peculiar has happened, or also to me and a couple of friends: When I see Ghost, I can totally separate the Papa / Cardinal characters from Tobias, he has done such a brilliant job crafting their personality that for as much I try to picture Tobias on stage instead of Papa / Cardi, it is impossible. To me, they are a totally different person.
@@DarkEtherealRhythm Totally agree. I went to my first Ritual in Salt Lake City this year, and trying to see Tobias on stage just doesnt work. Its fully Cardi on stage, and even though you can tell its a mask, the performance is so incredible and so encompassing you really feel like Cardi is his own person separate from Tobias.
Yes it is kind of strange, like KISS did for a while, to be secret with your looks off stage. I mean they play a role. It is like an actor never would role-off, always be the guy in the play even off stage.
God I respect this dude!!! Tobias seems really intelligent man! And about those death metal records made by young dudes, think about "Obituary - Cause of Death"... maybe the best death metal record ever, and yes, they were young
Amazing interview with very good questions. Tobias always has such interesting answers. He definitely deserves this title and I can't wait what he comes with next!
I was gonna see them open for Maiden two summers ago but traffic getting to the venue was so backed up I missed them. Still got the see the whole Maiden show, however, so it wasnt a total loss.
find somebody who looks at you the way Graham looks at Tobias. I love this guy so much. Absolute eternal genius approaching Beatles level. Ya, I said it. I meant it. I dont care
I've watched this interview many times over and I still enjoy every minute of it. So good. Also Tobias is so interesting. I could listen to him talking and pick his brain for hours
It’s interesting listening to his accent, how you can hear his Swedish roots but also the strong distinctive American accent over the top of it too. I love papa because he really plays into his natural accent, it suits the character so well
He got a point. the creative energy I had when I was 20 is way different to the creative energy I have now. And damn I really wish I was 20 again as I really miss that level of energy.
everytime he talks, i just can"'t stop from listening, what a smart and cool guy, this is a good video and tobias is giving us some life lessons here, if you pay attention. Gonna take his advices in my daily life. thank you Tobias !
I remember when secular haze came out and how I felt when I first heard the tune vs when I saw the video and what they looked like. Both different reactions but still very intrigued and left me wanting more. It’s crazy how much time has passed since then and to see them come as far as they have. It’s definitely well deserved and it’s still hard to believe that this baby faced man is the one behind it all. Rock n roll ain’t goin nowhere 🤘🏼✨
Love Ghost! Definitely metal, attitude, lyrics, some grooves and show, so yes metal. A huge vision, artistry, song writing and great sense of humour! WELL DESERVED
Great interview, as always! I've just seen Ghost live, they played in my country after 4 years again. Thank you for this, it was very interesting and informative. It's so calming to listen to Tobias talk, and Graham is such a chill guy, his interviews always feel very... i don't know, natural, maybe? Anyways, peace!
