Another amazing video and now Aurora is added to my list. When exactly were you there? Winter's coming right?

It was over a week ago Joe...and, we will go back and look at the townsite closely near the cemetery; but when you've seen one juniper tree you have seen them all. Happy Thanxgiving!

Hi Linda! I will tell Kellie you ordered the book. She is very well read, so I know if she recommends it it will be a good read. Just remember to take the second right when you get there when coming from Hawthorne and you should be able to navigate that rascally road in a rental car outside of the snow and mud season.

I'm very grateful of your last series of videos of the greater region I never quite got a chance to explore ! As far as Aurora goes,some time ago my closest neighbor While living in the Sierra foothills told me when she and her late husband probably back in the late 50s would go out to Aurora every chance they had! So back then,before the day of preservation awareness ,they dug out hudreds of antique bottles! They filled shelves in front of sunny windows with their glass treasures,very beautiful display! Yes,sadly cholera took many folks in those early mine settlements.

Great country and video of a historic site. Definitely a place not many of us will ever be able to visit. 15:19 At Tombstone, Arizona there had been a mining company that went out of business. The owners disappeared and left a pond of toxic waste. I wonder if this is the same thing? 18:30 up on the White Mt. Apache Reservation there is a cemetery. A long ago teacher who had been kind to the children has a grave where they still place flowers to honor her. On the top of the stone persons place little red rocks like some of those here - to mark their visit and respect. 22:59 The modern Wanda and Allen must have felt a connection to Aurora to want to be buried way out in the boondocks instead of the town where they lived. Thank you Doug and Kelly for the wonderful tour.

Thank you Joseph....and, Happy Thanksgiving to you! I think the mine up there is in standby mode, perhaps waiting for higher gold prices. I bet those holding ponds have something toxic in them, but at least they are making an effort to contain them. We can hope they will clean up their mess. I went to the Battle of the Little Big Horn in Montana, many of the graves on both sides have interesting things left by those paying their respects. Perhaps those folks on the hill wanted to rest in quiet; you know our small towns: usually drama.

That was so rugged, and yet very beautiful. It always amazes me that there is rarely another soul in sight. Thank you very much, Doug and Kellie, for your insight, for relating the history of the background of the region, and for giving us a tour of the area. Those structures must be amazing to come upon. Then, you find some, new, mining operations, as well. However, that cemetery fascinated me the most, Doug. Though they may be artificial, someone, over time, has left flowers at the graves. The ages of the children are often so young, which is very sad... This was another great video, and exploration you brought us on. Much appreciated, Doug and Kellie. I hope you enjoyed a delightful Thanksgiving. 🤗💛👏🏻

Hi Rhonda! So true; at least people were thinking of them and made an effort to leave the plastic flowers on the graves. I know I often think of people who have died, especially family members and close relatives. So there is the bright side of cemeteries; that people are remembered. I should have done a better job of outlining the town's borders, so I am going back up there and include old photographs of Aurora. Kellie said yesterday she had to catalogue a treasure trove of antique photographs of Aurora that someone donated to the museum in Hawthorne. I should include those so we can all see what it looked like back when 5-10,000 people lived there! I know; it was a lot. They say men carried weapons on them because it was so dangerous and hardly any women at all. You must be the cook for Thanksgiving dinner because you usually are one of the first to chime in, so someone was busy getting it all together. I bet it was delicious and a great time! Thank you for the moral support and encouragement my friend Rhonda!🇺🇸🍽️🍗👏

@@CalNeva That's so interesting, as always, Doug. I can't wait to see those early pics of the area. They must be fascinating, especially as you compare them to the area today. NO, I am not the cook of our extended family, which is fine by me.😉 We actually dined out at a lovely nearby restaurant, yesterday. There were about 30 of us, which is more than usual. We hadn't done that in years. It was very nice. I hope you had a lovely day yourself, my great adventurer pal, Doug.🤗🤠

Happy Thanksgiving, Doug and Kellie! This was such a fun adventure! I watched another exploring channel who came into the town of Aurora from the other direction and the road was even worse - yikes. I’ve always wanted to visit Aurora, though I know there is not much left of the townsite. What’s interesting is, Aurora had very high quantities of gold per ounce and was one of the richest ore producing areas of the Nevada gold rush even though the town’s lifespan was short. I wish Nevada did a better job of preserving old ghost towns like this. The cemetery looks well kept, though. That big piece of machinery you all stumbled upon early in the video reminds me of a smelter but I’m not sure. Very beautifully intact and impressive brickwork on that!
@CalNeva
@CalNeva 9 месяцев назад
Hi G! Thank you; Kellie saved me a plate. The thing about gold is that it will always have value. People know this; today as yesterday. In fact, some say silver will be going up as it has many uses for industrial and technological applications. I believe gold gets recycled over the centuries but silver can be lost in industrial and manufacturing applications. Silver has been a bargain for several years, and both it and gold are excellent for preserving wealth as inflation takes a toll. I know people that have done very well with gold. I heard a man who survived the Socialist takeover of Venezuela say that silver kept its value also. There are so many active gold mines run by big mining corporations in our state of Nevada, though California appears to be shut down for ore extraction and a myriad of other business ventures. Appreciate your thoughtful and kind comments my friend!

Good Day, very nice video BUT you never went to Aurora and that's why you never saw buildings. There isn't much but a lot of foundations and a couple of mines. The cemetary is on the top of the hill and the town is down the road in a valley. Love some of the shots very nice.

@@pastorjohn7378 Hi John! Yes, I humbly realize my mistake, I should have titled it "Aurora Cemetery". However, this blunder opened up an opportunity to revisit Aurora as we want to cover the town ruins and peek around the mountainside a little bit farther in the direction of Mono Lake. 👋

Well Brother, I'll bet you knew I'd LOVE this one didn't you? Pinion pines, Junipers, and great rock formations to boot! Really liked the cemetery tour too, I always am fascinated with old cemeteries of that era. The rock and smokestack thing you explored...my thought was a smelter for gold?? Just guessing. I do know those overhead beams were old railroad rails, not ties. ( Seen plenty of those in my day!) Anyway, this was a wonderful Thanksgiving day treat for me my Brother! You and Kellie have a great and blessed day. 🙏 🇺🇸
@CalNeva
@CalNeva 9 месяцев назад
Yep, I just KNEW you would like it! Another subscriber also pointed out the rails were iron, not steel. Didn't know why I called them ties; what's wrong with me? I need to pay attention to what I am saying! I think it might be a smelter too ..probably like some sort of a brick oven, I am thinking a big oven to supply fresh cookies to keep the miners happy and from brawling amongst themselves fighting over the few loose women who inhabited those wild parts of yester lore. I like the cemetery too, I think I might like to be resting near the composting toilet as I am composting, either way at least I will have some much appreciated solitude up on that little hill of pinions. Got you guys in my prayers for good health; enjoy your holiday my big Brother!🇺🇸⚓

Doug shame on you a Boy Scout should always prepared! not full tank of gas & no spare? Railroad tracks they are iron! no sign of fire as no smoke on ceiling. Best month to buy a used car/truck is in January as used car dealers are full of used cars! Get yourself a good used low mileage used 4 wheel drive check repairs with car fax & finance through a credit union. Id use consumer reports from around last march & look up best used 4 wheel drive shown by previous owners. I seen a side of a hill/mountain that looks like white chalk along Hwy 395 on the other side of the Walker River in a bend in the river on the way to Walker. boy you could go down the river in a raft! Might be great trout fishing on the Nevada side
