I enjoyed your 1 and 2 videos. I will be looking forward to #3. Loved the piano music. I recognized all the songs she played. I'm 77 yrs. old, so I date back to the old days too.

Hope you enjoy Ghost Towns #3. I'm a year older than you and enjoy these old piano songs that were played by my late neighbor.

Someone recently asked me how the big rock got inside the mining building in Comet, MT. There is a hillside behind the building and it evidently rolled down the hill and through the back door without breaking anything. I think you take exit 160 off I-15 and go north on High Ore Road to get there.

Havre is pronounced 'have-er' (like to 'have' something). Perfect pronunciation on Helena though. A lot of people get that one wrong.

What stops you from moving into one of those places
@danholtvideo
@danholtvideo 3 года назад
As far as I know--nothing. There is a man in Exploring Oregon #1 and Ghost Towns of Oregon #2 that have moved into one of the abandoned houses and are living there for free. I understand that Dale the Mountain Man has since passed away so now his house in De Lamar, Idaho is probably empty again. You do have to live without electricity unless you have a generator.

Any of these parcels free? I like to renovate and build a village in these ghost town
@danholtvideo
@danholtvideo 3 года назад
No, the free land was several years ago, although there are people who just move into some of these places and fix them up. The rent is free, but if someone still owns them they'll make you move.
@themandan9400
@themandan9400 3 года назад
@@danholtvideo I was under the impression that vacant they would probably claim The Montana Adverse Possesion Law; thus becoming a limited time owner of that property. Altho, the legal rights of a said property/parcel/acre would still be listed at The State Of Montana Land And Resources. Do you have any claims to any of these ghost towns?
@danholtvideo
@danholtvideo 3 года назад
@@themandan9400 I didn't know about the Montana Adverse Possesion Law. Sounds like something worth looking into. On one of my 4 "Ghost Towns of Oregon #2" Videos there is a man who just moved into one of the abandoned houses of Delamar, Idaho and he mentioned that another person in town had also.
@themandan9400

@@danholtvideo Yeah. It could be a good thing for you, you know, just in case you fell in love with a property and had renovation thoughts

I can appreciate American Old West History and buildings and relics of the past. But, as interesting as it is, I could not live there. It's way too depressing to constantly view weather-worn and dilapidated buildings and rusted ironworks and old car carcasses. Life today requires services if you want to live a 21st-century lifestyle. Tourist trap towns mostly turn me off. These showcased towns are interesting and I thank you for the video. But, I much prefer my Lake Michigan beachfront home in Muskegon, Michigan.

Sorry, Debbie. I have tried to cover as much ground as possible and spend a little more time in the most interesting places and at the same time, don't want for it to be boring. I certainly could spend a little more time on some of the best ghost towns. Perhaps I may make some longer segments of these sometime in the future, the Lord willing.

If a person goes into a ghost town and finds a place what would stop him from moving in and fixing it up?
@danholtvideo
@danholtvideo 6 лет назад
In one of my "Ghost Towns of Oregon #2" videos a man named Dale actually moved into an abandoned house in Delamar, Idaho, hooked up water from a spring and was living there when I visited the town. He made his own candles for light and had a battery radio. There was another resident in the town too. In Part 1 of the same video, a young man moved into an abandoned house in Frankfort, Washington and was living there with his dog, so if no one ever objects, it seems to be ok. By someone living there they are also able to keep the place up so it doesn't fall into disrepair. The only disadvantage seems to be that these ghost towns are usually a distance from the nearest city, so you need to only go for supplies when necessary.

Where did you get that map that has symbols of ghost town locations?
@danholtvideo
@danholtvideo 9 лет назад
Dave Moore David, That was the official tourist map I got from the Montana State Chamber of Commerce, I think. It was nice of them to show which ones are Ghost Towns. Makes them easier to find. Of course, there are a few of them that they missed, like Comet and a few others that have lately become abandoned.
