SMS is such a charming console. Too bad it didn't have a large library.

I learned quite a bit about this game from watching your stream. My friends and I used to play it a lot on the Commodore 64, but we never got to the point where we could enter the Gozer building. It was interesting to find out that the more you move around on the map screen the longer the drive is when you finally drive to a building. The C=64 version is a lot more tedious than the Master System version, and this game looks to be a lot more fun. I remember crossing the streams was a problem for us on the C=64, but you could also play 2-player during the ghost-trapping section once you reach the building. I think this is the best version of the game. I wonder if you thought about beating the Atari 2600 version on-stream.

I was gonna say I would love you see Mike play the Arkham games, then I found a stream from about 7 years lol nice!

Incase anyone didnt know, the music for the Master System version of Batman Returns was done by Streets of Rage composer's Yuzo Koshiro and Motohiro Kawashima.

5:56 ain't it the truth, we used to play what we had and like it. this is why i beat treasure master as a 12 year old in 1993 long after even the sweepstakes was over, something no one would do if they had an alternative 😅

i like how Ghostbusters was slightly different per console. One of few games where the ultimate challenge is beating all different versions.

I watch these vids when I want some classic gameplay with no bull.

Had the Ghostbusters game on a good ol' 5" floppy and played it all the time! Never got the SMS version because of it... Also, can't help but mention Golvellius was so close on the game list... hope to see you play through it!

Honestly, I know people dont like Ghostbusters 8-bit too much (at least on NES), but I still find it to be a fun (albeit repetitive) game. I honestly didn't know about the whole thing with the ghost bait being used to stop Stay Puff. I thought it was used in the stairwell sequence. I actually went back and played this game and was able to beat it with only losing one life. Thanks for showing the tip.

I used to own batman returns on game gear. And it's basically the same thing, but the game gear version you can use the batmobile as special attack. I guess the master system doesn't have that.

That Addams Family game is also on the SNES and Genesis, as well as game Gear and GameBoy. It is based on the 1991 movie. It's a pretty fun platformer, but it plays like a Metroidvania. I would say check out the SNES version instead.

Mike has gotten so much better at streaming over the last however many years it's been. I think the first time I watched his stream was that time he got tanked and played mario after having broke up with the blonde girl. But his ability to keep talking and have a constantly transforming conversation with the chat while playing games is remarkable. If most of any of us just jumped on a stream and attempted to do this, the contrast would be unmistakable. Being able to be funny and engaging without the conversation feeling forced is a real skill. Many less skilled fall into the trappings of mostly saying things that are entirely superfluous or just making noise for the sake of making noise. Mike's growing, yet well intentioned disdain for the audience is a near limitless resource for him. He doesn't revere or "look up" to the audience just because they are technically the supporter base, he knows the score between himself and the chat, and the chat, whether some of know it or not, have increasingly leaned into the dynamic. It's all made for what is now just a plain old good show. In the beginning, I think a lot of people tuned in because of the game being played, but now it doesn't matter, we're here to hang out with Mike for a bit, and pass the time in this endless ocean of misery we call conscious life. As the years tick by, as the bodies of ourselves and our loved ones wither on the vine, it's so nice to have someone who can make a few hours less agonizing. I often side glance my .45 longingly, the way an asthmatic would stare at an inhaler, but not when the Mike show is on! Thank you for your years of making life marginally more tolerable Mike! We love ya buddy! 😬👍🏻

Batman Returns appears to be identical to the Game Gear version, though I could be wrong. I watched someone speedrun Batman Returns on SGG, no exploits, just straight up go fast, 6 min:34 seconds. Hahaha. Don't fight, just go!

When I saw this uploaded on here the other day, I knew it was going to be a fun watch. Very cool to not only see you playing SMS games, but beating one I had as a kid and never could myself. But hey, I beat 8 player Monopoly a fck-ton of times. Since it seemed like you did kinda enjoy it, I hope you'll give more an in-depth try sometime. Quartet, Ghost House, Choplifter, Transbot, Penguin Land, Miracle Warriors if you want a reasonable amount of time RPG, and you could probably beat Bomber Raid within a few runs. Those would be my suggestions for USA-releases anyway, ones that arent sports and I did enjoy playing back when I owned them in the 80s/90s.

Don't usually get to see these live but I caught like the last 20 mins. Big fan Mike, keep it up! And I remember playing the SMS version of Ghostbusters as a kid. Still not a great game but miles ahead of the infamous NES version. It's actually playable and fun and beatable without cheating.

The Sega Genesis Ghostbusters game was really good. No Winston, but the platforming was really good with Ray, Egon, and Peter. As for this variation of the Ghostbusters game, I've an Account Number for the C64 version that I've kept going since my dad was alive - the Account was started probably 35 years ago, all with gradual progression. I have plenty of money, but beating the game is still hard. _5/10 streams viewed as penance_

I like these CRT streams. These old games just don't feel the same when they are pixel perfect displayed. Sometimes I miss hearing the brightness on a tv from the faint feedback of the video signal.

Watchin the Rastan stream. Dunno if you figured it out, but you wall jump by jumping into a wall and immediately pressing the opposite direction on second jump. And long jump happens by pressing diagonal forward up

You could double your twitch income by having an 'always on' twitch channel (MikeMatei(notLive) that just loop plays past streams, the a-z video or any other compilation stuff. It would prob consistently rank highest in the retro category. Then on the MikeMateiLive channel, you do actually live streams.

Mike! Definitely check out the sms version of Ghouls N Ghosts! It's different! And still challenging.....and Wonderboy III is the best out of the bunch. Also Psycho Fox is great if you can get used to the wonky jump physics

Personally Ghostbusters on Master System was one of my favourite games when i was a kid. I must have hired it a dozen times. I feel like this game gets alot of hate because 1)The Nes version is terrible 2) Alot of people don't understand how to play it. I remember learning how it worked when i was 6 or 7 and finishing the game multiple times. I wish more people played the Master System version instead of focusing so much on the Nes game.

Just in the beginning of this stream so maybe you figure it out later, but you need to buy the marshmallow sensor...that gives you advance warning of Stay Puft. And yes, messing up loses you $2000, doing it correctly gains you $2000.

Any game based off the first Ghostbusters (at least the games published by Activision) don't have Winston, why is that? Was it due to a agreement deal with Ernie Hudson or something, did he not want to be in the games, was it because Winston was added to the team halfway through in the movie??
