@@bcuongtran8294 DLSS not helping in this case, i barely hitted 60-70 fps with all maxed out and after turning off ray tracing my fps has raised to 140
@@darkring2842 What is your GPU? and do you use DigitalFoundry optimized settings ? At max setting and max RT the game could become very heavy on GPU but not much noticeable change. I'm using a RTX 3060 ti,1080p,DLSS quality and with DF optimized settings the game run very good at lock 60fps, it only use about 40-60% GPU.
People forget that regular raster shadows, colour bounce and reflections can indeed be as good as ray tracing, but the time, effort and resources needed to implement it is massive, even today Unreal Engine and likes of Cry Engine have been developed for 15+ years and still struggle to add these features because they are massively taxing on the GPU, it gets to a point were ray tracing actually is less computational expensive. And complexity in graphics also add more bugs and inconsistencies that are difficult to fix. Remember that in most games even today, light boxes are still manually placed, most light sources do not emit light by themselves, but are just models, while a real light source is added, this is duo to optimisation, with ray tracing all you need is a texture that emits light in any shape or form and no need to think about more, if you want a room to be less lit, you can adjust the the individual strength of these light sources, or if you want colours differently you can add different colour lights, as of now with raster lighting, to change colours in a room based on lighting, a lot of complicated methods are done to achieve it.
Tbh, i never really "got" how ray tracing actually affects the graphics of a game. Besides just "fancy lighting". And i gotta admit, the fact that reflections persist even though what is reflected is no longer in the fov of the camera makes it so much more realistic. The example of the thumbnail is perfect to show where the difference is
RTX is the Nvidia product name for consumer PC GPUs with dedicated ray-tracing (+DLSS) hardware. When ray-tracing is on a non-Nvidia hardware like AMD GPUs (PC, console) we can say RT, not RTX. Many people seem to refer to all ray tracing as "RTX" regardless of platform these days. (just an observation, not regarding this video's title or anything. Here it's clear we are seeing 'RTX' in terms of running PC version using Nvidia RTX GPU).
RTX means exclusive features that RTX series (20xx/30xx)+ includes. It was very well explained by Nvidia back in 2018 when revealing RT to gaming. RTX features includes RT cores for Ray tracing and AI cores for DLSS, DLAA, NRelfex etc.
Until AMD can do ray tracing at 60 fps the same way Nvidia cards can do it will forever be RTX. That's just a fact, not me shilling for Nvidia which everyone knows anyway that they're a predatory company. Even FSR doesn't save them, you can't get playable performance with ray tracing enabled on any AMD GPU, no matter the settings.
@@user-ig2ex7hb8k Yeah not sure what you're smoking but my 6800xt performs within 10-15% of my 3080 with raytracing and is no where near unplayable without fsr. In far cry 6 I actually get more fps on 1440p ultra ray tracing on.
@@user-ig2ex7hb8k wrong i have RX6800 and use RT in RE4 and play with no problem, nvidia NO because LOW VRam dont mention crash beacause RTX30 series, like 3070/3080 have low ram. And RE4 consume 12.4 VRAM without RT
It's beautiful work but I feel that, although RT can produce nice results, in many instances reflections and shadows are way too sharp. It creates a very cg look because it looks as though everything is covered in chrome rather than there being nuance in the specular roughness (Entire wet streets entirely wet everywhere rather than covered areas/doorways having dry patches) or shadows are way too sharp like the basket on the trolley. The kitchen was a nice example of this working well with rougher reflective surfaces. It demonstrates you can't just turn it on and it looks great - it requires a lot of time, resources and art direction to tweak shaders. No small task when recreating a city!
Raytracing is the technology used to produce photorealistic images in movies for a long time, the thing is that in games it can only be partially implemented so it can run in realtime with acceptable framerates, so there are still limitations and flaws like what you mentioned, but there is no doubt that raytracing, at it's full potential, is far more accurate than rastered, screen space solutions.
@@vewu29 I have a 3070 I was one of the lucky ones who got it MSRP price it's an awesome card and ray tracing is awesome but it's a hudge hit in fps Me personally would rather have fps than graphics
@@maxdamage4919 yes ray tracing is the official term but in Nvidia language it's rtx and since this is a rtx on video it's just easier to say rtx cause it's the same thing Ray tracing has been around along time yes but not ai generated ray tracing as accurate as nividas technology Breaths new life into old games and saves developers a ton of work on lighting but it still is early days even now
Love your channel (better than Digital Foundry at this point) Just so you know "Some shadows HAVE no reflection" instead of "HAS no reflection" (because shadowS in plural)
Me to , wait. Interesting to compare with Pc , of course rtx on pc will be much charming. And interesting to know about Dualsense features on Ps5 and Pc .
@@indian_crocodile I guess he says that because RTX is the name/brand used by Nvidia because is its version of the raytracing technology. Ps5 doesn't have RTX, it has raytracing.
@@pablo3558 dxr is the direct x version of raytracing that runs in software that even older gpu's can run versus rtx that only the 2000, 3000 nvidia gpu's and amd 6000 series gpu's can run

Ray tracing is just a marketing white elephant since the visual change is not as impressive as promissed, the shown effects wth RT ON, could be achieves through another Hardware native instructions.
Your channel blows away Digital Foundry. Their focus on long boring videos just leads to delays while gamers who own all consoles and a PC want to know where to purchase their game. Digital Foundry used to be like that but now they’re all fluff and are useless for purchases.
ones does not need to be better then the other. each channel focuses on content in a different way. i would most definitely say that DF is far from useless for making a judgment for purchases. it simply takes a little longer to digest the content because of their commentary. to each their own, I like both. i use this channels videos for quick looks, and skipping around the video. DFS are more deap dives, which would naturally take more time
