My bunny is in the early stages of stasis because of antibiotic treatment for snuffles, the vet put her on metoclopromide so fingers crossed she's makes it, please wish us luck 🙏
@@pez3416 Thanks for asking! Shes improved a lot, touch wood, though shes got to continue with these nasty antibiotics (Sulfatrim) for a week and a half yet though so we're not out of the clear yet. Her snuffles seems to be a lot better though so at least the antibiotics seem to be working (again, touch wood)
@@lucybridges5887 start giving her at least 3 strands of fresh Dill ...no stalks/day. On every alternate day give her Cilantro/Coriander. These are wonder herbs! Helped my Rabbits get through stasis and even Gut Surgery
@@lucybridges5887 Lucy... I hope all is going well for you little companion. Rabbit Tails is right about Dill being an amazing remedy, I'll second that, big time. Also consider getting some Echinacea seeds and planting them, either outdoors or potted inside. It's properties are almost miraculous and, just like Dill, will boost your bun's immunity system 1000 fold... and all mine l o v e eating it, stems, leaves and flowers. These days they all have an Echinacea treat every second day ! I'll just add that, nearly two years ago I adopted an unwanted bun who was carrying kits. She had snuffles, which sadly was transferred to one of her five babies before or during birth. My vet has always had a policy of never administering anti-bois to rabbits, other than under the very rarest of circumstances, simply because of the very problem your bun is suffering. Instead, she recommended a medicine produced by a company named 'Catalysis', in Spain. It's called 'Asbrip', and even has refreshing nasal cavity-clearing eucalyptus among many of it's ingredients. As you probably know, even with anti-biotics the snuffles problem usually appears gone, but in fact it's just laying dormant in the rabbit. The same goes for Asbrib, but it firmly drives the snuffles down, keeping it decidedly under check. By administering it orally by syringe, three-times a day until the symptoms disappeared, my two little sufferers were soon normal. Only once in 18 months has the mother developed a bit of white mucus around her nose, and only twice in the case of her daughter, but with a few days of re-administering the medicine the problem is gone. Bonus is, even I've put some of the stuff on the end of my finger and tasted it, and it tastes really nice, my rabbits like it.. a lot. Anyway, this is a bit of a long-winded post, but the health of animals is of paramount importance, eh ? Any help I can be to any animal lover and their pet is worth a long script. I hope your bun is now okay.
@@cuhurun thanks so much for the info! We thought the infection was fairly under control but all of a sudden two days ago she refused to eat and appeared to be suffering from vertigo. We took her to the vets who said she has a middle ear infection which is linked to her respiratory issues, and is affecting her balance and putting her off food. She's back on antibiotics now unfortunately, but seeing as she wasn't eating in the first place we've been force feeding her critical care anyway. We did get echinacea extract which we are mixing with her critical care and will deffo look into Asbrib to keep the infection at bay before it gets to this point again. It's rough going at the moment especially cause she hates being syringe fed, and it's so sad seeing her all disorientated and unbalanced :( I'm just preying she'll pull through 🙏
My rabbit stopped eating for a day or two. Then I took him to the Vet. The Vet checked and gave him medicine. But after a few days it was not able to walk properly. I took him to the Same Vet . He was checking if he had a fracture and pulled his leg and pressed it so badly that my rabbit shrieked in pain. He never did so in the last 7 years. That day my rabbit died.
Hi Dan. It doesn't have to be the room which is warm (although it helps), but the bun itself. When mine have had stasis I've used fleece blankets and a quite warm hot water bottle to keep their temperatures up. Also, I cuddle next to them for body warmth as well as to regularly massage their stomachs and make them feel secure. As for the medical reason, it because their core temperature absolutely crashes when GI kicks in.
@@cuhurun interesting! I have a sensitive tummy myself ;) and I sometimes get cold and shivering... So I understand that bunnys would also need some heat to feel better. and comfort
@@linastrindlund2830 : No, not too much heat wouldn't be good... but just enough so that their little metabolisms aren't having to use energy to keep themselves warm.

Very accurate information. I have 2 bunnies and had 3 G I Stasis episodes and everything she is saying 💯 true. We have saved our bunny lives by taking proper care and prevention. Too many sweets (banana, even carrots) were the main reasons ours got sick. So we have significantly decreased their sugar intake.
Our rabbit was moving around and appeared normal and the next morning he has sprawled out on his side and unresponsive in his cage. He passed away and never knew anything was wrong. We don’t know what happened.
I bought two young rabbits a year ago and turns out they were sick when I bought them, and they got sick with a disease and had tons of parasites, gi status was only one of the symptoms. Just found a domestic rabbit in my yard trying to hang out with my current rabbits who live outside, and I have him inside and have for a day but I started getting anxious because he seems to exhibiting behavior the sick ones we had were exhibiting. I'm taking him to the vet as soon as possible.
Great insights as always Amy. So well done. Biggest take away ( among many) for me is knowing statis is symptom of a condition, not necessarily a condition in and of itself. Hi, i had 3 rabbits die with in a week of each other, they all died the same way, normal, then stopped eating the day of death. But at death all 3 freaked out running and jumping all over the place and screaming a deathly scream. We have 1 rabbit that has remained fine and never had an issue.
@@jessmusolino7101Could be a hemorrhagic disease that causes internal bleeding. There’s a vaccine for it but it’s hard to come by as most vets don’t carry it. It’s an awful way for a bunny to die.
This started happening to my bun and she wouldn’t move and she even let me pick her up and hold her and that’s when I knew okay somethings wrong and she stopped eating and drinking water and looked like she was nodding off and super low energy was scary cuz I lost my last bun and witching hours she passed. But I had Sherwood emergency kit on hand this time and gave her the appetite restore and within an hour her appetite came back full force and she devoured the recovery food and then was pooping and running again and started eating her hay and drinking water. I’m glad I caught it on time and was able to identify and pull her out of that. Not sure what caused it but I hope she’s okay for good and it’s doesn’t come back again
Can you tell me what the Sherwood emergency kit contains? We don't have such a thing here in India but if I know the contents, I can buy the items and keep them handy for emergencies.
@@OfficialJasSingh oh noooo, we’ll it’s basically two things one is a electrolyte powder also called appetite restore which helps them to get hungry so that they can eat and the powder hay pellets which you also mix with water and can give through a syringe. It’s been a life saver I guess you can just look for a appetite restore for rabbit and you can even put some good quality hay pellets with NO Soy cuz that’s bad for their tummies a clean brand and blend that up to make a powder and add some water so it’s drinkable and lighter on the stomach. I hope this helps so sorry you don’t have access to the Sherwood brand it’s really good!!

I have two cottentails that we just got that is starting to show signs cause they wernt eating when we first got them I put them on all hay and gave them some critical care I don't have a vet near me hopefully they pull through
hello bunny lady. thank you for the video. my rabbit wasn't eating last night and I tried my best to help her with massages and leaving out food. I wondered if it was blockage. well I woke up in the morning and food was missing, not all of it. lettuce, hay and a little pellets. I then changed her litter box to monitor pooping and gave her 2 baby carrots which she rarely gets. and she took a couple sips of water. and then some poops started coming after forcing her to exercise and massaging. I still don't see her desperate for snacks like normal. so I will measure how much water she drinks tonight. I was very concerned she would die but it seems like she's healing finally
What about feeding off my stress whether it can cause stasis. My boy went into stasis this evening. Luckily, I managed to catch it pretty early I was wondering if. Giving too many of his pallets would’ve caused or him feeding off of my stress over finals week.
Mine can tell as well. That said I don’t give mine pellets at all. Just Timothy hay, baby spring mix, washed “yard salad” consisting of fresh bunny safe weeds like dandelion greens, cilantro, and bunny safe fruits like blueberries and bananas.
Hi! as many others here, I'm asking for suggestions on how to get my sweet&spicy girl Thumper (yes, i know) eating. She's acting normally: runs, jumps, nibbles on me for attention, and humps my arm (she's 8 and I never managed to get her to stop). Right now its Monday morning, and she hasn't actually sat down to eat hay since... saturday afternoon?). I noticed on Saturday evening she hadn't touched her fresh hay, but she still ate the handful of pellets I gave her at night. I always let her free roam in the bedroom during the night, and she was acting the same as always, maybe a bit more bite-y than usual. But she laid on the pillow next to me and ran around and binkied while I slept. Sunday morning I got up and looked for some pellets to coax he into the cage, and she just came up to me, smelled them and ran off. I then noticed she STILL hadnt touched her hay. Thats when I started freaking out, because i know my girl is SUPER food-driven and she never turns down pellets. I also noticed there were barely any pooplets around, and the ones that were were very tiny. Shes taken a few blades of grass that I've brought in from the yard, and a small piece of banana ( I gave it to her to avoid her blood sugar dropping?) and she even turned her nose up at that. So I'm terrified. There are very few "exotic" vets here in Puerto Rico. Like I mentioned before, she's acting pretty normally, aside form biting me more and spending a bit more time under the bed (not hunched over or anything, just enjoying how much more cooler it is there). She doesnt seem bloated, doesnt act like something hurts. Just... isn't eating like she would. Basically just a few bites of her "snacks".
I’m also wondering I currently have a Flemish giant lionhead and was wondering if I should get him a friend when he is older? He is currently 4 months old and I’m planning to get him a friend by 2022
My rabbit ran into issues recently and started exhibiting the signs of stasis. Got him into a vet quickly and they got him stabilized. They ran other tests and said that he had a urinary stone. We were able to take him home after three days at the vet and he perked right back up when he got home and was eating like normal. He was pretty pissed that he had to be at the vet though as he didn't really want to eat when he was there. We took him in to have the stone removed a week later but when they ran the camera, they couldn't find the stone! Turns out...there was never a stone to begin with. Due to an old pelvic injury (before we had him), it presented as a stone on the x-rays. Three different doctors looked at the x-rays and all said the same thing. Needless to say, he's doing fine now, but that was really really scary. I'm so conscious of checking for rabbit health symptoms now, almost on a daily basis.
How do I know if they have something in their stomach that they can't digest? please answer this because my bunnies chewed a lot of a wall but the wall was like already bad and easy to break so they chewed it, and my dad wouldn't cover it so now they chewed almost all of it. It layed on the ground the pieces they chewed put how do I know if they ingested it and is it dangours? Please help!!!! I really tried to get my dad to cover it but now its too late and im scared it's stuck in their stomach. They are eating and pooping but can it damage how long they live? Please help!!!
Hello im concerned about my bunny having gas or not like he poop normal and di others things normally but i can hear his stomach growling and at night he seems bit uncomfortable n if this is a sign of gas is raniped okey?
My rabbit is acting strange. He's still eating (hay, veggies, pellets) drinking, peeing, and pooping. He's still running around chewing on everything and playing, but he's not showing any interest in his treats. Is this something I should be worried about or is he just maybe in a bad mood.
Has anyone had their rabbit be much more aggressive after stasis? My rabbit just got over her first time with it and has never been an aggressive rabbit at all. But now she is growling, lunging and biting. Any thoughts?
My situation is very unique... I'm wondering if you can help me.... My bunny is a wild Cottontail. She lives in my yard. I rescued her and her brother when they were a week old. I raised them until they were ready for the "wild". Their home was my greenhouse before they were released so they could be aclimated to the outside. I then cut a "bunny door" in the wall... they come and go as they please. I have a large fenced in yard with lots of weeds and plants/ bushes to hide in. There are many places they can get through the fence and go as they please. There are other bunnies that live in the neighborhood. Last night my "Little Girl" hopped up to me in a strange way. I thought she was injured. I got her in the greenhouse to watch her and after a while I realized it was "Floppy bunny syndrome". (I think she did experience this once when she was 2 weeks old but I didn't know what it was and it didn't last more than a couple hours.) She is very wobbly and can still hop but not as well as normal. She spends most of her time just sitting or laying down. She is acting very different than normal. Like you said, she has been laying in her litter box and doesn't usually do that. And now I am realizing that she has been acting slightly different for the past couple of days when I've see her... laying in her litter box more, and sitting/stretching/moving in ways that are unusual. (Like maybe stomach hurts) It's possible that she could have eaten something toxic because she is outside and has access to whatever. I do have one pothos plant outside (that I will move now), but I did notice yesterday that one of the Leafs looked like it had bunny bites. I can't be sure though. However I am sure that there are all kinds of things out there that could be toxic. We do not use any chemicals here but I can't say the same for the neighbors and I know there are also wild plants and weeds everywhere that could be toxic. But like I said, I think she did experience this at two weeks old so it might just be in her jeans. She is still eating but I have noticed that I don't think she is pooping quite as much as she usually does. I have also noticed more soft poops like you said. I am pretty sure that they are cecrotropes and not diarrhea. I am unsure what to do because she is not like a domestic bunny where I could pick her up without stressing her out. I do pet her and she does jump on me, usually to "play", and enjoys human affection but is still instinctively wild and does NOT like to be handled beyond that. Because of this I can't bring her to a vet and besides it is technically illegal in my state to "keep" a cottontail bunny. I won't bring her to a Wildlife Rehabilitation because getting her there would just stress her out and so would just being there. I also know that they do not have good luck with bunnies. I have a friend who used to work there and all the baby bunnies would just die, which is why I raised them myself. I have closed her in the greenhouse for now because I am afraid that she would not be able to fight off a predator or run away quickly. But I need to know what my chances are with helping her through this and what types of products I could get my hands on to potentially heal this. I have tested with "treats" (rolled oats) and sometimes she will take them and other times is uninterested. I know that she is a wild bunny and not technically mine but I love her dearly and I have raised her so I feel responsible for her and I want to provide any help for her that I can. I am ordering the gas drops as I feel this may help. As I've been researching I have heard pineapple juice, aspirin for pain, ranitidine for reducing acid, multi-vitamin, Critical Care, colloidal silver, etc. I am unsure how I will get her to take anything...She used to eat applesauce when she was little but I tried to give her some last night just to see and she was not interested. Please let me know if you have any advice on how I can help her. Thank you❤
If you haven’t already, please give her some critical care and those infant gas drop. I’m sure the vets won’t refuse her if she’s in a state of sickness so if your willing to take her. Go ahead and please do so if the problem is still persisting
Please help me. I dont have bunny vet in my town neither my country. First she stoped eating pellets first. Then I served her dinner, and she didnt touch it. I got scared but when I woke up she ate all of it. I reacted fast, got some paste / treat for getting her gut moving. She eats hay and poops normally. She runs and is active as usual. I dont know what else to do im very scared. Also she ate some treats idk whats happening
I’m watching my friends rabbit as she has gone away for around 4 months, I don’t know how her bunny normally acts but he had some slightly thick cloudy urine, some soft larger poops and some are really tiny hard ones, he is eating fairly good from what I can see but drinking water could be a bit more I’ve also noticed he sits in the upright position a lot but he also flops on the floor and seems pretty happy and relaxed I’m not sure if he is ok or not
@@MissSuperSabrina thankfully he is fine. He didn't eat something big and reading on the internet I found out it's more usual than not and I learned how to monitor and prevent it. Thank God there's useful people on the internet that can help you if you face a sudden problem, and not only useless people like you who like to criticize instead of bring help. You don't know what's the other person facing atm so you shouldn't lecture them about it. I am responsible of many pets and was a new rabbit owner, I've learned a few things now but thankfully not from you. Go fuck yourself. I hope nobody ever gets advice from you, asshole :)
It's possible to not know. I have a rabbit who went into stasis due to pain from a liver condition (the cause and effect was easy to find in this case) but the other two times I've run into the condition didn't really have any obvious links that could be drawn back to a particular cause. Most of the time, all you can do, I think, is try and do what Amy mentions at the end of the video and pre-emptively encourage activity, good diet, and reduce stress because it will likely be one of those if it's not easily attributable.
My bun is my bonded baby and he hasn't been grooming me or eating, drinking, or going to the litter box. I am scared as he is not even a year old. I think he has gi stasis. And i don't know if i should take him to the vet immediatly or what should i do
I need advice, I don't have a vehicle at the moment so I cant get to a vet right away, but my bunny is displaying some of these behaviours but also acting normal? But his stomach is gurgling only slightly and not much? He's taking very small nibbles from his feed but not indulging like usual?
I did think that FUR was the main reason for GI stasis... thats what Ive experienced... but when I thnk about it , they rarely got GI stasis after they moved to a LARGE enclosure outside. :D
