Gian Francesco Malipiero: Symphony No. 6 ‘degli archi’ (‘of the strings’) 

Malipiero dedicated this score to Paul Sacher and his Basel Kammerorchester (as Bartòk did with his Music for strings, percussions and celesta). It's one of his most haunting and heart-breaking compositions (he wrote 8 string quartets, moreover, and 17 symphonies). Above all, in the second movement he reaches a warm lyrical peak. Simply...splendido.
