Acho makes terrible points, but because he packages it so well when he speaks, people take his word was bond (also people love him because he's a KD hater). A superteam is a superteam whether it's homegrown or not.

@@nbacritique9191 The point of the argument is that the Bucks are not a super team and still won. Giannis was asked a question at a press conference. But we all can tell that the Giannis success story would be more palatable to people like Marcellus Wiley if he was not Giannis Antetokounmpo(an immigrant/foreign/international) but a G-quan Allen born in the streets of Detroit or Baltimore or Brooklyn to American parents. It's ok to feel this way but not ok to tear down his character and undermine success like its done on a daily basis in the NBA media.

MW is completely missing the point. Giannis was RIDICULED for resigning with the Bucks. He was addressing those people. People said he would NEVER win a chip with the Bucks. He did just that! People dogged him for the free throws, he went 17 of 19. People called his DPOY "illegitimate" and he went out and swatted everything in his path. MW has a narrative he had to keep. Dog cant just look at what Giannis did and respect the performance. IMO it was the greatest closeout performance ive ever witnessed

I agree with Tim Legler when he said, the only way the Bucks "pull this off," is because the front office & franchise invested in Giannis. Giannis & Middleton could not get it done but the addition of Jrue allowed them to do something special. So, for Giannis to make such a comment about superteams was incredibly low & tacky, & disrespectful to his colleagues. And remember, the Cavs 2016 were not a superteam so it has been done before & better b/c they came back from a 3-1 deficit & the city of Cleveland had a 52-year drought for sports championships. And, the Cavs defeated a superteam:)

Giannis didn't start playing until he was a teenager. He didn't come up in leagues with great coaches and summer training camps and high school rankings. He shared shoes with his brother and slept in the gym. He's had to fight hard to get where he is. And here he is on top. And people still gonna hate on him. Not that he cares. His choice not to listen to the media, to stay in Milwauke... His determination to win a championship and his drive to make sure he delivered... these things are not about ego. These things are about character. Your implying it's shade and ego is reflection of your own lack. He's allowed to acknowledge what he's done and what it's taken. He's made of a different metal and his fans know it. His ring DOES shine brighter. And always will.

I get that, but Acho is also trying to say that teams built by the GM is different than being built by the players. It’s not. The 86 Celtics had Bird, Parish, McHale, Dennis Johnson, and an aging Bill Walton. That is without a doubt a superteam no matter how you look at it. Same with the 85 Lakers with Magic, Kareem, Bob McAdoo, an aging Jamal Wilkes, James Worthy and defensive star Michael Cooper. They dominated the 80s just like the player made superteams do in today’s game. There is no difference.

And the things can go the other way around, KD Lebron... they didn't face a tough competition cause they were already in a super team. Bucks just faced a more fair road to the chip

Also there are different ways to do it, going to the team you just lost to that already went to back to back finals appearances with 3 hall of famers the back to back reigning NBA MVP and a top 5 shooter of all time (klay) and expecting me to respect that ring the same way I respect Giannis ring is just dumb. James harden going to play with KD and Kyrie and winning a ring will not be respected the same way winning one for Houston would’ve been. It’s just a fact and I’m a huge KD fan but realistically what did he prove with Golden state?? If Giannis lost last year to Miami and then joined Miami in the offseason NOBODY would’ve respected it.. but to come back the next year, SWEEP THEM and win a ring?? You gotta respect that

There’s levels to this. 1. Drafted to a bad team, sticking with it, winning the chip. 2. Getting traded to a bad/average team you didn’t choose, sticking with it, winning the chip. 3. Signing to a team that’s a piece or two away, taking them to the chip. 4. Getting your all-star friends together and winning a chip 5. Join a top 2-3 team and win a chip.

@@K.C.C.L Actually, Middleton can have a James Worthy like career. He already has very similar career stats through 9 seasons, but Khris is a better defender, ball handler and passer and has one less title. Sure he also has 5 less All-Star appearances, but he was snubbed this year and the way his game is, he can easily get 4 or 5 more in the next 6 or 7 years. Also, Khris, Giannis and Jrue will get at least one more title. The Nets only have a 3-4 year window before KD gets old and/or injured (6 years older and coming off a torn Achilles) and they're not running the table every year...

Toronto won 2019 after KD and Klay Thompson were out injuries. Every year, some players will injure and out of the running. INJURY IS PART OF THE GAME.

Regardless of, he went through different coaches and front office changes and still stayed the course. Those other super stars failed to get it done for whatever the reasons and the option to be apart of a super team was available to him but he committed to the journey he started with his guys and got it done. It’s way more inspirational but not necessarily more meaningful because everyone is a champ regardless. Stories with hardship to success are always more believable and relatable. How many of us would love to jump to the finish line but that’s less likely.

Super team titles are diminished because the best players in the league join together rather than face one another, meaning there was less competition in the league to get those titles. That's also why it means less and robs the fans from seeing the best players face the best players.

One thing that I think is different between lets say Giannis, lebron and kevin durant journey to their first ring is their situation coming into the NBA. Lebron and KD were expected to be great players. Giannis sort of was a project that ended becoming everything the bucks had hoped for. When Giannis had started to become MVP-level player in 2018 that's when the "pressure" started. Lebron and KD had it from the jump, and after a while just wanted to win a chip to get the money off their back. Giannis and the bucks organization sort of developed together.

Middleton had better numbers in finals than Klay did as #2 guy.... People act like Ginobili, Dumars didn't have SINGLE digit scoring games in the finals. The inconsistent narrative isn't true for KM...If it is taken a WHOLE lot of other #2 perimeter players and even some #1's like Lillard, past and present deserve the same label. This dude averaged 6 points less than Greek in an offense with very little movement. KM had GREAT playoff run

Let's really get down to the facts. The NBA has been nothing but superteams since the beginning of time. There has been superteams since virtually, day one. They have been dominating the league forever. The only times non-superteams have won the championship, is because of injuries. Of course there is anomalies and exceptions, but for the overwhelming majority, that is the facts.

Hakeem Olajuwon's first ring was harder than Giannis ring. I like Giannis. Dream had to go through a health Drexler, healthy Barkley and KJ, healthy Malone and Stockton and a healthy Ewing, Oakley, Mason and Starks. Dream was the only all star on that team.

Giannis proved you don’t need a super team? Really? Listen, why I like NBA postseason it ensures that when two teams face off in a series, the better team wins……with one exception - injury. Who in their right mind feels we just watched the two best teams playing in the Finals. Sorry fam, but even Vegas has told us that Bucks aren’t to be considered true contenders. Yes, the Bucks won but it was in the weirdest postseasons in modern professional sports history. I’ve never seen a post season in any sport, let alone basketball, where several teams 1 or 2 best players suffered major injuries. Sorry, even Bucks didn’t beat a healthy super team at full strength. And I ain’t saying it’s impossible, because Dirk (2011) and Duncan (2014) did it years back.
