Despite what the narrator said, Robinson did not have any kind of "brute strength" or play like a "bully" on offense. On offense, he was much more of a finesse center than a physical one. He usually scored with his quickness and athletic ability, not by overpowering anyone. Gianni is a much more aggressive offensive player than Robinson. Robinson was an excellent shot blocker but his man to man defense was a little overrated. I don't recall him defending Shaq very well. And we all know what Hakeem did to him in that playoff series. I think Giannis is the more versatile defender overall. Gianni is also the superior passer as you can run the offense thru him. He is also the better ball handler. I see Giannis as the better player, clearly.

Fair enough. But Robinson’s stats against Hakeem throughout his career are pretty darn close when they faced off. Maybe physicality is a better word to describe rather than brute strength. You know those guys you play against that just hurt. Not that they bump or push you around but their figure is just hurtful. But we for sure see your point and probably compare Giannis to Hakeem. Maybe we should do a Hakeem vs Giannis

@@fastbreak8860 I gotta be honest. Just my opinion, but I wasn't too crazy about Robinson. I know he had great stats and was certainly one of the best centers of that era (and all-time). I just thought he was somewhat overrated. I always liked Hakeem better. In fact, I even thought Ewing was the better player (probably won't be a popular comment).

Not popular but understandable. If I’m running 5’s I’m picking up Giannis allllll day. But in a 1v1 with two bigs, Everything is going to be around the paint. I see Robinson as a better player in the paint overall. It’s close tho

Giannis’ ball handling is overrated he travels and carries on the majority of his possessions. The problem is the NBA just doesn’t call any of that stuff anymore. Give Robinson or any other past big man the same luxuries and they would look like better players too. Restrict Giannis to the old rules and he’s relegated to a back to the basket player.

@Mark Grace I did see Robinson in his prime. I am that old. Thought he was overrated. Just my opinion. I know he had great numbers. Just was not a fan of his game.

Giannis is just too long and athletic for robinson not to mention he can knock shots down when left wide open. Robinson would have to defend Giannis on the perimeter not just the interior

His shot takes a while to develop. He’s not the best off the dribble. 90% of 1v1 is off the dribble. Robinson is an much better defender than Giannis

You clearly have never seen David Robinson play. He was just as freakish as Giannis and was taller and stronger. He also was a better mid range shooter than Giannis. You don't know basketball. Giannis also is not a very good 3pt shooter.

In comparison to Giannis, Robinson would use a back down/ in the paint approach than a finesse approach in a 1 on 1. He does have fundamental skill in the paint, but it’s different than the type of skill in the NBA today. It’s more of a mentality of getting to the hoop than anything. Giannis would favor his athleticism and head down/ drive from the 3 approach, Robinson would favor his ability to be physical in the paint. The paint was PHYSICAL back when Robinson played. Now it’s a different style of play. The mindset to play in the paint back then was tough

@@handlebucket6285 the best thing about those highlights? He doesn’t take 48 steps on every drive like Giannis and doesn’t carry the ball on at least half his dribbles. The current NBA is a joke they just decided to stop calling the rules so these players look better to casuals.

Wow, you said Robinson had the aggressive mentality edge??? Robinson was dominated several times (Shaq, Ewing, K.Malone, Hakeem, Rodman, Mourning) and D. Rob barely responded. It got to the point that he was bullied. Giannis attacks the basket at whole different level. Giannis agility level is far above Rob's. Rob wasn't a consistently high scorer (only 3 years above 25ppg) and they were only contending in one of those years. Giannis handle is on a whole different level. Giannis first step and explosion makes Robinson's look tame. He's a lot quicker. Way more intuitive as well.

Giannis looks clumsy compared to Robinson. The agility and speed differential isn’t even close. And Robinson did it all within the rules for the most part. Most of what Giannis does would be called a travel or a carry in Robinson’s era.

@@fastbreak8860 I love the enthusiasm and great detailed research that made me open my eyes and realize that the matchup is a lot closer than I previously thought. I’m still gonna go with Giannis because if he’s left 1on1 and not doubled he drops 50 points in a finals series clinching game. I bet Robinson wasn’t doubled as much as Giannis because it was illegal defense back then.

using career rebounds stats is not the best. robinson started and stayed hot, while giannis grew steadily. you got to measure in their prime as giannis early years drag down his avgs

Robinson has no turnaround/fadeaway jumper. If this was 1v1, that is important. You can't just grind/back in your way to the basket all the time. And at best, he would probably play at 70-80% the pace of Giannis.

Robinson did have a turnaround, he wasn’t Kobe but he was good at it. The only man who physically dominated him was Shaq, and there’s no shame in that.
