Absolutely quality over quantity! No sense people taking way more than they would ever use or need. Maybe they see dollar signs and get greedy. Thank you for kindly asking people to be mindful. I liked reading all the comments on this video. Especially the slo mo with the hair and you wearing a wig 🤣 I can't believe the size of that monster agate, so many different colors and hues on just that one piece. Also, I picked up a book on zeolites. Not the one you've been showing. Amazon had it listed for like 150 bucks or something saying was only one left, little too rich for my blood, lol. But, the book I grabbed is very good and informative. I see there are many varieties there in Washington. Sadly, only one in my area seems to be Thomsonite. Anywho, loved the video. By the time I get done watching all your guys excursions into Utah, I'll be selling my house and moving there 🤣

Nice video man! I’ve been to Brian Head peak multiple times to snowboard but I never knew that there was such incredible and massive agates practically (or literally) right under my feet lol. So rad! Did you go septarian nodule hunting while you were down there? If not I’d highly recommend it for next time. The quality of the septarian around Zion area is exceptional. Me and my brother had really good luck in Ordervill a couple years ago, we ended up digging for hours but man was it worth it! Finding any hollow septarian nodule is the best feeling ever! We went back once and didn’t have any luck, that’s the thing about digging from a wall, you just don’t know what you’ll get. Supposedly you can find them easily if you know what your doing but the chances of finding a geode septarian is always really rare.

You are absolutely right about being selective. After humping the tons of agate back this spring.....I thought, now what? It doesn't cut as fast as one would think. Of course part of the thrill is in the hunt and finding. As you picked up the unfractured pieces I kept thinking about how nice they would look as knives.
@CurrentlyRockhounding
@CurrentlyRockhounding 2 года назад
They really would look nice as a knife. Were really trying to be more and more selective as time goes on. With so many cool rocks to collect why take more than you need is my line of thinking.
@jimv.661
@jimv.661 2 года назад
I picked up a lot of extra not knowing if I would be back anytime soon. And, that was fun for once. Like you, I will be more selective in the future. Seems like most hobbies are like that. At first, a person (at least me) goes hog wild, then as the hobby matures, you become more refined and selective. With that said, if I ever strike gold.........

We went to Brian’s Head last fall when I first started rockhounding and I went a little crazy with the amount of material I took home! I tumbled a lot of it ( and I’m still tumbling some 😆) and it turned out beautiful :). But, I agree. I took too much of it and now it sits in tubs in my garage. I would rather now find a few unique and awesome specimens than buckets full of material. Thanks for the video…it brought back memories of that beautiful area! 😁

I went elk shed hunting where I live in Utah and I brought home buckets and buckets of agates to tumble. A year and a half later I'm still tumbling it. I found a huge 20 foot wide vein in the rock cliff and I loaded as much as I could. And I was picky about what I took! Lol I bought a cheap wet tile saw with a 6" diamond blade for $40 to cut it all up from Lowes! I thought it was funny because just the blades were around $60.

Great video again, those agates are indescribably bea-Utah-ful! Your friend thinks like I do. Wheels carrying weight. I actually modified an old Golf Cart to carry a bucket filled with rocks so I didn't have to! There is an untold story about Bryan's Head. From the South Rim of the Grand Canyon at 7,000 feet to Brian's Head at 11,312 there is over 4,300 feet of uninterrupted Sedimentary Deposits. And people stand at the rim of the Grand Canyon and marvel at the erosion. The real story is where did all of the material from the South Rim to Brian's Head go and how was it eroded in "sheets" leaving mesas, massive plateaus, etc...

Very informative, thank you. Do you know anyone who might be interested in a huge piece of petrified wood (320 lbs ). Probably Saddle Mountain, based on the coloration and opalization. About 3 or 4 months ago, I called Robert and Lisa Langford at Langford Lapidary in Yakima, and they invited me to bring it over so Lisa could take a look at it. They seemed fairly impressed. Lisa brought her UV light out to my truck and determined it floureces in many colors. Anyway, the short of it is, I'd like to sell it. Maybe you guys know someone who may be interested. I spoke with Joe Cota in Lebanon, Oregon, but he seems to be quite busy. Well, thanks for all the great videos. Kindest regards, Don Wilson, Tacoma, Washington.

Maybe the white host rock that doesn't clean off is Rhyolite?

utah rockhound here, and I've always wondered why I can't get that white layer off my agates too haha; I always thought it was calcite but it's not! I always end up cutting it off or tumbling it away. But man, you got me pumped to go out here with the family and check out these massive agates. I've collected hundreds of mossy plume stuff from all over the state, but have not been here yet surprisingly! I gotta get a big one for the yard now, haha. Love the channel man, keep it up.

I took my daughter to that exact spot a couple years ago and took a picture of her sitting on one of the agate boulders on the lower dside of the road. Cool spot.

It's crazy, the places that have so much cool stuff that it is hard to choose. Yet, I will search gravel bars on rivers in central Iowa for lake superior agates for days only to come home with a few, that would barely fill my pocket and have a great time!

That place is so cool!! Would be a lot of fun picking out a good yard rock. I would of done the same thing just walk around look at the monster's. You collected some nice ones, good video jarred

It's a little hard to be at a location like this with so many good rocks, what do you pick up? It's a good problem to have.

Wow Jared, a mountain of rock candy, that is awesome. You have found some nice pieces there and it will be interesting to see how the look cut and then polished. I tend to agree with your comments about how much you take. So far I haven’t had to worry about that problem. The only thing I found in bulk has been some petrified wood about 18Kg of it, when I visited a location with my wife & grandson. I should have been a lot more picky as at least a third of it is a bit deteriorated. Only some it is good enough cut. Live & Learn. Keep Safe & Keep Rockin

It's a fun location, even to just walk around and look and giant immoveable agates. For us I think sticking with the small 7 gallon tote bin is a good amount to take for us. With as often as we go rockhounding I think that's more than enough material from a location and more often its not even half full.

I would love to have some of that agate for my rock saw.(I'm a hundred percent disabled Vietnam vet and I can't get out and look for agates like you can. But I sure love going to my garage and my rocks off and seeing what's in these rocks for the first time they're simply beautiful 😍✝️✝️✝️

Hi, isn't the white stuff on the surface when agates are exposed to the sun and weather for a long time? I sometimes grind it off, but I also once left parts of it on the rock and tumbled it. The white stuff took a very nice shine...

I don't know about that. I will put it under the microscope and try to figure out what it is.

Could the agate there be used for Indian arrow, spear, or knife points?

I don't see why it couldn't be used for those things.

Idk none of this stuff seems like proper agate to me. Might pass as chalcedony-jasper-flint-chert but not agate,since agates supposed to have concentric lines...
@CurrentlyRockhounding

I guess that depends on how you want to look at it. Agate is a common name which has many things under its umbrella, but people have chosen to apply the definition to it that it much have banding in it for it be called that. If you really want to be accurate about the language used lets just say its all SiO2 and apply no common names to it. Terms, titles, and descriptive language shifts and changes and we could likely debate for some time as to what is an agate but the subject and waters of that topic is a muddy one.

I truly believe this is actually petrified/agatized wood. When you say it’s huge and just keeps on going underground… ? The block shapes… it’s pet wood from a biggo log. For the “boulders” just lying on the ground out in the open…? It’s broken up logs of pet wood. It seems really obvious to me.
@CurrentlyRockhounding
