You missed an opportunity for a joke on the scene at the final staircase - Mario could have bonked against the wall of the step and slid down one at a time, similarly to Super Mario 64, and got caught by the Plant at the bottom.

@@drevniysamurai Specifically, they are filled with both Hydrogen AND Oxygen. If it was purely Hydrogen they would float up. And having oxidizer in the balloon itself makes them more volatile.
