+DaddyEngineer, this video and the thoughtful references were very informative and appreciated. I learned so much between your video, blog, and the bubble wiki! We made the bubble mixture and took out to the park with our toddler and let me tell you, ALL the kids in the park must've come over to enjoy these bubbles. Not only did were they light and airy (floating about easily), but they were robust as well and didn't pop super easily or in mid-air before the children had a chance to chase and pop them! I have tried lots of bubble recipes and found them to be okay, but lacking in some ways. For instance, many DIY recipes call for using glycerine and I was pleased that yours did not include that ingredient. Glycerine bubbles always leave a thick, unsightly film on everything it lands on (including my carpet, floors, and window screens. This recipe is great. The Whole Foods near me did not have guar gum, but they did have zanthan gum and it worked just fine in the same proportion as the guar gum. Also, I had a huge container of Costco brand biodegradable dish liquid so I used that instead of the Dawn Pro. Again, success. I will use this up and then switch to Dawn Pro and try the guar gum (if I'm able to find it). We will definitely make more of these great bubbles in the future. Thanks so much for insight and resources, they were tremendously helpful.

There wouldn't be any chance you could post the weight in grams for the Guar Gum & Baking Powder amounts, would there, please?

Darn ..... I just found out US & UK measurements for teaspoons are different :-\ 1 tsp US = 0.83 tsp UK Going to have to mix up another batch n' see if there's a difference.

Indeed - and DON"T EVER mistake a US table spoon for a British one! its half the size! What we know in the UK as a tablespoon was a large serving spoon which was used at table to serve from large dishes. The US one is the spoon we use for eating other stuff with at table e.g porridge or dessert... not to be confused with a soup spoon either! The UK table spoon holds, conveniently, one ounce of flour if the same amount was above as inside the bowl of the spoon! Hence it was a very convenient measure for cooking too.

Nice video. It would be nice if you wold acknowledge in your description and in the video that what you call "My recipe" in the video was developed by me and a couple of other people at the SoapBubble wiki. Btw, you can hydrate the guar much more simply by mixing the guar powder with a little rubbing alcohol (enough to make it pourable) and pouring that into the warm water. You won't have to worry about sprinkling the guar slowly.

Hi Lowly Fluff Sandwich. Yes, this has become a quite standard recipe. I first published it in late 2011 or early 2012. I developed it with some friends as part of a project to come up with a recipe that didn't require the esoteric polymers that we (and everyone else in the giant bubble community) relied on. We wanted a recipe to share with friends and family made with ingredients that they could source locally. And, our recipe certainly benefited from knowing about the more esoteric recipes that others had shared with us and the world. It has been gratifying to see how widely used our recipe has become.
