Its cold, its 64! :) We are so happy here in Minnesota that in less than a week our firearms deer season opens and its been in the 20's at night, highs in the 30's and low 40's during the day...perfect white tail weather! Cool video.

Man great video guys. The audio of those bulls vocalizing was top shelf stuff. It’s rare you get to hear all the huffing, grunts and bull mews. Also major props for knowing when not to call. It’s so hard not to call sometimes but when your if your in the magic circle, just let it unfold. Well done!

Hunting with a a bow is 95% mental! I shoot my first bull (Pope and Young) with my recurve at 6 yards. He came to 10 yards and stopped and stood there for 6-8 minutes looking right through me. I just looked at his hip area to avoid eye contact (every animal can see /sense eye contact and if so it’s game over) I was DEAD CALM! My buddy was behind me and off to the side. He raked a tree and the bull turned and walked by me at 6 yards and it was game over. He went 60 yards and piled up! AFTER the shot, I was shaking like a leaf!! Let me tell you that when I first saw that bull at 200 yards or so, I was shaking like crazy. I closed my eyes and said a prayer and said to myself “Drexler, you’re going to remember this moment for the rest of your life, good or bad, so make it a good memory and dont F it up!” Then I was dead calm! I had ZERO nerves in my body or mind. That happened 23 years ago and I’m still more excited talking about it now than when I had the bull standing there forever at 10 yards. My point is this, prepare mentally for the hunt before it happens. Visualize the bull, the shot, the draw sequence thousands of times as you lay in bed at night. It will become so automatic that when the shot comes, you will be able to stay calm until you shoot. AFTER the shot, get excited, jump up and down, do anything you want! As hunters we SHOULD be excited, but there’s plenty of time for that after the shot! Try the mental preparation and see how it helps. Olympic class athletes use mental visualization all the time. PS... I was waiting for the bull fight the entire video. 😂 I also have a question why there was no additional video on the remaining hunt? It was a great video except for the two poor shots. Thankfully the bull you hit seemed to be ok. There’s NOTHING worse than a marginal hit and not knowing if the animal will live or not if you can’t find it.

Always watch these videos and wondered how can someone miss an elk. Sept 7 this year in New Mexico I had two bulls bugling and fighting in front of me. Ranged one at 35 yards facing me while he destroyed a bush. Chip shot. He spun and ran back to fight the other bull while I was drawn. I whistled 10 times before he stopped, I settled and released... and missed low. I didnt realize he was just slightly angled away while he was charging back in to fight. I killed him two days later. Never stop learning, and Never Give Up!
