Caught & Released on the Freelance Sportfishing boat last week in April, 2022!🤙🎣 This MONSTER Cow Cod is an endangered Rockfish. Cowcod is the largest of any rockfish species found in Central and Southern CA; the largest confirm fish weighed 34lbs. They are a long-lived rockfish species, living as long as 55 years old. Cowcod are vulnerable to overfishing, so when caught, anglers are encouraged to use deception devices like Capt. Rusty, to lower the fish safely back down to depth, allowing time to reverse any barotrauma the fish might have had when brought to the surface quickly from depth.
We operate daily sportfishing trips for anglers in the Southern California area. Trips start at 1/2 Day (6hr), 3/4 Day (10-12hr), Twilight (5hr), and our Overnight trips (23hrs) for deep-sea sportfishing trips.
