One of the true American classics is the Giant Dipper at the boardwalk in Santa Cruz, California. Though it might be old, it still packs a punch!

did everyone on this coaster take a vow of silence before riding, this is the quietest group of people riding a coaster I've ever seen

The next time you go to Texas, you should go to Kemah Boardwalk in Kemah Texas. It is a small park with a bunch of flat rides. A drop tower, swinging ship ect. The main attraction is the roller coaster. It is an old gravity group woodie. (Before timverliners) It has a 91 foot drop and a top speed of 51 mph. It has a great view while going up the lift hill behind you. (Like Wildfire) When you go over the lift hill, it takes you in a circle before the drop. (Also like Wildfire. It has some airtime. Don't expect it to be like Kentucky Flyer or an RMC. It is still fun. I will warn you that with my experience, the ride ops stapled me. Also when I went (in the middle of the day), it was a station wait. It is kinda rough, and kinda jerky. It is NOT as smooth as some newer woodies, but not like some older ones. It is pretty far from any Six Flags parks though. It is a fun ride, and another credit. (Wow what a long comment)
@phoenixshade3
@phoenixshade3 3 года назад
That would be Boardwalk Bullet, and I approve this message. Side note; no way Giant Dipper reaches 55 mph. I know my physics and did the math. Even if it drops from a height of 70 feet with an initial chain lift speed of 10 mph and with zero friction, when it gets to ground level it's only going 47 mph.

When i was 11 at the Boardwalk one summer night near closing I wanted to ride the GD one more time, so I ran up the ramps and all where there was one worker and I begged for the last ride. I was the only one there, and convinced the guy so I boarded in the middle, all alone.the single rider! Now I had been on this coaster many times before and so there was no surprises, like watching your favorite movie. And by myself! Now you have just seen the video so you know the ride. The safety bar went down " Have fun!" I heard and off the cars shot off and down into the pitch black mine shaft. Wheee... and shot out and began it's climb . At night it is very beautiful so at the top you look around,but you sit and keep your hands in. and I did but...the coaster plunged down the hill made the left turn down and up again and that's when it happened...the safety bar came up over me and I flew off the seat into the air feeling the coaster going past underneath leaving me. I got hold of the bar and forced myself back,standing mind you, back down .I knew the ride so I was able to "go with the flow" but every one of those turns threw me at the side of the car as I air born. Well , with the last hill behind me and the track flattened and turned left towards the station, I pulled it together, sat, LOCKED down the safety bar ALL the way and put on a big smile and the station. Even though It really was truly terrifying, It prepared me for the other near death amusement ride experiences that were to come! Seriously.

When I went on this the first turn was BRUTAL. I also was is the middle and didn’t get to ride any other times. So it does need to be re-tracked in some parts. Other than that, it is a really good ride.

Next time you get to ride the Giant Dipper try for the front car or the last rear car More spectacular ride in the back car Thats the best spot but I mix it up and I go where there s available seating Sometimes some of the people can be picky and if their spots taken they ll wait for the next round when the rollercoaster exchanges passengers

You go down and curve left under the station, then right, then a bit left to a long straight to the lift hill, all in the dark. From above, the tunnel is shaped like an "S" hook from a hardware store. Lots of fun. Giant Dipper is a brilliantly designed ride; it uses every bit of its momentum and space to full advantage. Nothing's wasted.

@@trainchugger53 They are far from being copies of one another. For one thing, the Belmont Park coaster has a first drop that curves back to the opposite direction. They are only similar in height and that they're painted white (as ALL wooden coaster should be, IMO!) I rode Belmont many years ago when it first reopened after a major refurbishing. Lots of fun, but Santa Cruz is tops!
