This historic wooden coaster has been in operation since 17 May, 1924 & has had over 60 millions riders! It was given National Historic Landmark status in 1987 & is mostly known for all its movie appearances, which include The Sting II, Sudden Impact, Dangerous Minds and The Lost Boys.
Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk is located about 75 miles south of San Francisco in Santa Cruz, California.

For nostalgia, this coaster has it... I grew up on it... Went from being scared to riding it nearly all day... Could never get enough... All wood coasters are becoming rare... This is an old school well maintained wood coaster some 95 years old... For nostalgia, you can't get much better... Weather you think it is mild or scary, for a coaster fan this is a must ride... It is a prime example of coaster history... Absolutely love it...

And what s best about the Giant Dipper is that its a landmark and was used for filming scenes in 1. The Lost Boys 2. Sudden Impact 3. Dangerous Minds 4. Thrill. a made for TV movie 5. Us 6. Bumblebee 7. The Sting 2 8. Killer Klowns from Outer Space Those are just some of the movies featuring the good ol Giant Dipper

You guys gotta get used to it like I did At first when I was just a kid a little boy I may have been a bit scared then I got used to it and as I kept on riding Giant Dipper it got fun to ride on As a lot of people know by now this ride was featured in The Lost Boys movie

Yes its the same for me too but at Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk its my favorite overall ride Some other noteable rollercoasters I love are Medusa at 6 Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo Turn Of The Century a k a The Demon at 6 Flags Great America in Santa Clara The New Revolution at Magic Mountain also The Viper

Santa cruz....... and this ride plus the old school 80s jet star always reminds me of how would go here every year for my grandmothers birthday such as today happy b day.... R.I.P. mama compton even she loved this roller coaster.

Miss the old Jetstar right across from the merry go round. It was so fun, and also in the 1960's The Wild Mouse ride where the water ride now stands

Ben Justice When I went on Ghostrider in 2012 it wasn't that bad, and I was sitting in the final row. This is a very great wooden coaster, and despite how much I love Gold Striker, I enjoy this coaster even more.

Arthur Looff and his crew used very 💪 wood to build the Giant Dipper way back 98 years ago for the Giant Dipper to hold up this long Arthur Looff was the architect of this great wooden rollercoaster If you ever. got to go on the Giant Dipper next time you go read all the Giant Dipper facts while you re waiting in line I read em

It's funny how Paramount called the Grizzly at Great America a classic. This is a TRUE classic. I like this coaster more than the CI Cyclone.

The Giant Dipper uses the Morgan California Style trains.

The train horn just at the beginning and then the quick drop and turn into the dark tunnel at the start of the ride is very cool

Giant Dipper has never had a brakeman. The automatic brakes were added in the 70s when the Morgan trains were introduced.

No. I'm not sure if you were thinking about a white & pink colored coaster (Roller Coaster 1) that's on a level called 'Bumbly Beach' that wasn't meant to copy any coaster at all, as it had a totally different layout than Giant Dipper. Or maybe you were thinking about the 'Big Dipper' at Pleasure Beach Blackpool, in the UK which was on RCT.

It's part of the fun for these specific people! I really don't see the problem with screaming. It might be irritating to listen to on video but that original comment was silly - not everyone has their tough guy image to maintain, some people like to scream. It can be fun.

Cyclone gets more attention because it's in one of the biggest cities in the USA New York City, and also because Coney Island is much older than the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk
