I've been there and that thing looks terrifying from every angle you look at it. I am in no way expert enough on big drops but can definitely tell just by looking that there are some design flaws on that drop that make it terrible for everyone that's not a pro. As some comments mentioned, they renamed it to big daddy but the funny/sad thing is that there was no effort to make a smoother landing so it sits there mostly unused (the growing grass is a telling sign)
I spent a few summers riding up in Steamboat Springs area. I saw a huge drop at Mt. Werner. And although bike and riders kind of maxed out, most riders made it OK. But this drop, as you say, seems designed in a way that makes successful completion kind of sketchy.
@@cheker10000 i mean at the end of the day id your breaking your knees yours breaking em anyway but tbh the helmet is essential anything will stops scrapes
What went wrong : 1) the suspensión provably wasn’t set up properly for that impact on landing 2) either he didn’t land in the correct zone or the drop don’t have one specific point of impact for the drop 3) his body position maybe is incorrect and his arms and legs where not ready for that big impact . 4) not correct protection looks like he just finish school and drive past this MTB in the way home I give a like because the efford of the editing of the video and have balls to do it I always do things in my bike that I believe I can manage as taking a risk can put you in a wheel chair for the rest of your life . Ride safe and good luck .
Also his seat post was up like he was just going on a uphill ride, so I think if he had more room to manoeuvre he could’ve bailed without as much damage or even stayed on the bike.
Mate, there is no way you could ride out of that, no one could. He did nothing wrong in terms of technique, he simply rode way to quick and massively overshot the landing, probably on purpose because he knew it would make a good video.
Mostly number 3. Like most mtb riders he wasnt strong enough to absorb that impact. Riders rely on their suspension travel to take big jumps but the second the goto flat their body gives out. If you wanna hit those big jumps it's a good idea to work out too.
AntVSGaming 182 Are you dumb? You dont even see the landing in de video because he jumped at least 2 meters too far. I ride this bikepark a lot and 3 friends of mine landed this drop no problem
The giant drop is an old school low speed kind of drop. Something similar than chatel had years ago for the freeride competition only a lot smaller :) It's been built somewhere from 2004-2007 but like some other lines was kept for the riders that still like to ride old school stuff. Over the years I saw a a lot of people land it including at least 5 of my friends. Just check your speed before you drop it ;)
Thats awesome, it reminded me of some of the slopestyle courses I have rode! The video just refers to a few locals who were talking about the jump and said no one lands it. They were just exaggerating the fact that its a gnarly jump and a lot of people crash! haha
The moral of the story is if you build a old crappy wooden arch way at the Grand Canyon and give it a name like "hell drop" or " satans plunge" there will always be some idiot who thinks he can make it!😂
That was a great approach to the drop. You should always have chest protection when doing these huge drops. The problem with this drop is there was no transition. Who ever built this was no very smart. I also saw where it hasn't been hit much. Because unless you have have a 12 inch travel bike its not doable. Really not a drop that should be opened to the general public. Its to dangerous. I am sure you are a very good rider. You definitely have the balls for it. Your approach was perfect but you definitely bottomed out on the landing because it was too flat. Maybe more tire pressure up front and maybe more travel up front but that landing was way to hard for you to stay on that bike. Hope you get better soon and maybe start enjoying more cross country like me. hehe
Richard Cerill the trick to doing huge drops onto flat is that you must land both tires at the same time so you don't get bucked over the bars and your rebound should be set to the slowest setting you have to keep the bike grounded
Easy on the high drama guys. We can see it's a big drop. Kid is lucky. I knew a downhiller (pro) in Cali who raced off a cliff to skip the berm most land on and he ended up doing exactly what you did. But the impact was so severe his heart smashed into his ribs on impact, killing him instantaneously. With full chest gear too. That kind of landing is no joke.
I was thinking this vid is a big snooze. Until the Giant Drop. No doubt, there are a lot of riders that could have made it. But full respect to THIS rider that went for it! May he heal well.
You were too fast man, it's a low speed drop :/ I ride like you in jean - t shirt, but when you want to try this, take more protection for the fist try ! Peace man
@@Niceguy54444 no, that is completely wrong. The landing zone is not shown in the video as he overshot it by like 4 meters. I have been to this park many times it really is a low speed drop.
The only way to know if you'll make it is to try it, if everyone listened to those who say it can't be done we'd still be living in the stone ages. Props for having the balls to go for it!
Can't believe I watched this boring movie to the end. And can't believe you try to take off like a plane at full speed over a drop. Without protection. I don't wish you anything bad., but I'm happy for all young watchers that you broke something. Just a reminder that consequences are real.
"I don't wish you anything bad." What a d**k. See Sauvan Bastien's comment below showing how to convey the same thing while being a decent human being.
@@koho lol or maybe he's got point and lol maybe next time he will think i dont feel bad he deserved it you wanna ride yourr gonna get hurt lol not to mention all these big babys get offend pull the sand from your box already
This video is probably way better than what you are capable of doing, and putting down someone for what they love doing is pretty fucking low of you, I bet you wouldn’t even roll up to that drop fucking loser. Hahahaha
To wich hospital did you go? The one in Jesenice (Splošna bolnišnica Jesenice) is only 22 km from the bike park and you're there in 20 min. That hospital in one of the biggest in this part of Slovenia (we need a big hospital for all the bikers and hikers ;) ). Strange that it took you 2 hours! O.o In 2 hours you can LITERALLY get to the Slovenian sea XD
Yes they told us there was a hospital close by but since we were living in Italy and it was just a broken collarbone we decided to drive back and just go to a hospital close to home :)
Anja Kolbl Exactly what I was thinking Anja. I live part of the year in Kranjska Gora and know Jesenice well. Luckily despite skiing and bike park action so far I haven’t needed the hospital ... ha ha... now I will have done it!
Damn no offense because props to all dh riders. That isn’t a very big drop dude maybe 20 down tops. But whoever built that should be fired. that is a bullshit landing. Hope all is well and your back riding.
Dude. That landing needed to be at least 30* steeper. I can't believe you even attempted that drop. How far down was it? 25-30 feet? Landing was too flat. Your lucky to be walking away with a broken collar bone.
Hey man I've been there and done that. It happens. Yeah but from experience it was your bike dude. Your bike wasn't ready for that one! It was cool video great stuff !!
Mate, I’m sorry but that cracked me up. I burst out laughing went you creamed in at the bottom of the jump. Kudos for having the nads to try it in the first place though!
yah man you went for it. not sure i would attempt it. i got a gym membership but fell off. was trying to push at squats and clean and jerks to try and get more strong for riding. that was gnarly homie. did you see a line? or just banzai? that was a mad gap
