You don't know fear until you fight a dwarven lord in a unit of shields. With armour saves on a 2+, rerolling any 1's. Have to deal with the surrounding army while 1 unit is sacrificed.

I like this game so far. I think they could do a few things to make it more tactically interesting: Area of effect spells like the old tabletop templates (a pain on tabletop, but not so bad with a video game). I think you should be able to shoot at units in melee from behind (maybe add a skill penalty or a chance to hit another engaged unit). Objectives are an interesting idea. Just a few thoughts, I really enjoy it and watching you play through.

Honestly, total war warhammer having a similar game mode, moving across the world map, would be so cool. Anyone remember Dark Omens? Good times 😊

Yeah those giants can be scary! Artillery or that defense debuff spell (Hex of ruin I think?) and then throwing trash at them are my go to against them, provided I can get my hands on either :D Thanks for that tip of just moving the mouse to the destination while rotating a unit, I somehow hadn't thought of that haha!

Had a similar campaign, had a lucky cannon hire that really helped with large single entity’s like giants.

Yeah it really feels like this game fudges the dice rolls. It probably doesn't, but it feels like it.

This is a great example of why elves are always OP in any strategy game. A ranged focused army that is also very fast pretty much means that the opponent doesn't get to play the game.

My first Orc campaign I got two chariots, biggest mistake ever. Chariots feel like they really only work after you've charged with your frontline.

You either use both chariots to sandwitch one unit, or give them power buffs and attack a flank to guarantee a higher battle score. Then your opponent either (ideally) breaks, OR, turns to face ghe chariot, which will bravely sacrifice itself so your frontline can flank. But yeah, I find I have to be careful what targets I pick. Sometimes, not charging is the best move, since they're so mobile they can just stall a unit or two.

Won't lie I do find it funny how you talked about how great the deepwood dancers are in melee than went the rest of the video never using them besides as distractions for the giants and rats. Except for the very first fight you had them where they were accidentally charged and the last fight in the video where it was mostly for laughs.

There isn't one; it's very poorly documented. X and C highlight owned and enemy charge ranges, and holding Shift + X/C highlights ranged attack ranges.

This game needs reroll level up choices option. Some times the choices for unit are bad so reroll would be nice.

At that point, why not just give a list to pick? I agree that maybe they should buff some of those bad choices (discipline doesnt feel like a great buy since you have to be losing to benefit from it, and extra replenishment seems situational.

In multiplayer (and at higher difficulty levels) enemies can rally a fleeing unit so you probs want to wipe them out. Being in melee also protects you from range, so charging into a weak unit can basically make your unit tankier and put them in position to flank again after killing the weak unit. Apparently on discord, someone mentioned that rear-charges might get changed so enemies cant retalliate to them, so that would make chasing down even more attractive imo! 😮

@@RandoFromMars yea i did not know that good points to know layer on only on level 2 on the dwarf ,orcs,elfs and humans so will do and yea but so ar range units havent been a problem and i would rather that then charge a ablss warriors lol bt good points and did not know thst where discord so i can leanr more tip and ticks thanks to

I dont think Higher skill means you get hit less in this system. The lowest i’ve seen is 4+ to hit. In melee, at least.

Melee hit chance works by comparing each Unit's Skill. Equal Skill (5 Skill vs 5 Skill) gets a 4+. Higher Skill (5 vs 4) gets a 3+. Double or greater (6 vs 3) gets a 2+. And the reverse is true for the opposite (5+ for lower Skill, 6+ for half or less). It's similar for Damage Rolls, though that compares Power vs Defense.

If you look in the rules, you'll see that it's only ever a 3+ (higher skill) or a 4+ (equal or lower skill). There is no bonus for doubling, which I find a bit disappointing.

The rules pages are hugely outdated so don't trust it beyond vibes. More skill = Better. Good enough for me.

​@@JanetOnOccasion yeah, I think saves got changed too (2+ saves arent a thing in the online rules iirc) No controls page in the settings either (let alone rebinds). Documentation of this game is pretty bad. But I like it so much!

i wish you had charged.. once.. like you have melee units, it feels like such a waste of time to not use them. like, why even buy them if you're going to just run them around.

It's honestly a problem with the games design. Why not run them around when It lets me win the battles without taking a scratch? Any losses cost me loot, so why engage at all if I can avoid it? I just run them around because it frankly makes me invincible. And I'm assuming you mean melee **infantry** since my chariots are constantly charging enemies, and it's their success that means I don't have to get my other units involved as much. Also half my infantry benefit from additional attacks when they've not charged this turn so I have reason not to charge them into combat but to let them be the recipient of a charge instead. Imagine that shooting prevented a unit from moving for the rest of it's turn and see me start throwing my units into combat like you'd expect in a battle. I think the game would be a lot more interesting if that were the case.

@JanetOnOccasion I don't fully disagree, but a part of the game is those clashes. it's like choosing not to take any risks at all. like, yes, you're rewarded for it with like 7 gold per unit. but it makes it, at least to me, a tiny little frustrating. It really is just watching someone not interact with one mechanic to abuse the AI who can only run at you. I know over all you're the one playing, so your fun comes first clearly. but it sucks a little to see the dancers never get used. it's like I just wanted to see them shine with those buffs to attack. Maybe I'm just purely in the wrong. Sorry if I'm wasting your time with pointless frustration. I hope you have a good day.

@@JanetOnOccasion As far as I understand the problem is that in multiplayer that won't be really viable. Your units have more or less double their base move as effective charge range - move plus charge itself. So most archer units don't have the speed to get off more than one or two shots without some creative maneuvering and use of terrain. Because you need to spend your move on turning. And things like chariots don't have the fire density to be a real problem. It also doesn't make sense for chariots and horse archers to have this limitations.

You’re not in the wrong, it’s a very boring part of the design that needs fixing. But it’s a rogue-like so it’s primarily about resource management and I need to keep those units as a resource for when they’re needed later in the run. I can only give so many units the slip, and as the arena gets more crowded I’ll have to throw some more units into the melee to stop my ranged units getting caught.

@@zoolimar9989 so don’t give those units the limitation. Not all units are supposed to be the same but the default shouldn’t be that ranged units can move and shoot, that should be something that makes skirmishers a unique unit type.
