Please Fish Doctor, there is no one else doing these kinds of videos that give hobbyist a chance to learn these kinds of things...do more if you can, and Thanks!
And the catfish is all like "don't worry guys, I'll try to eat you soon! 😍" I wouldn't trust an RTC of that size with anything but animals *significantly* bigger than it.
After almost 5 years. My Redtailed Catfish named Boxer died. I was so disheartened. I know something was wrong the night before he died because of his odd movements. Like he is always in the surface. His natural black color turned lighter. I miss him. RIP
Joey is in Canada, Dr. Loh is in Australia. Most vets will not give advice/medication without seeing the animal. Most vets in Canada do not treat fish.
I think if he released some air with a syringe sooner, it might have had a chance. He did do it eventually, but by then it was too late. Letting in stay in the tank was probably not the best idea.
It is so good of you to make these videos to inform all of us fish keepers! I hope there are more fish vets and the hobby grows. I think I share the sentiment with others in that I understand you cannot always film recovered fish because you are dealing with patients in private homes, but if you would please add into the descriptions of your videos when you make them an update detailing the fate of the fish? Thank you for your hard work.
The ending reminded me of that one video on youtube where the little boy came back to school from being a week out and got all of that love! LOL those fish looked like they missed their buddie. You're amazing at what you do!
I've lost a few fish to this problem and even a 2 year old Red, I've had no idea how to treat it, other than making a cocktail of medicine and adding it to the water. after this video i feel that I can do a lot more to help them, thanks a million doc!!
nice work Dr. Loh, so much to learn from your videos, do you recommend any books for fish medicine for a fellow veterinarian from Iraq, keep up the good work.
coll6 as part of my service, I offer follow-up remote support for the next 2-4 weeks. owner is tube feeding him every 2-3 days. I can tell you that he's getting stronger with each day.
he is doing a great job by uploading such kind of videos... such stuff is hard to find on internet with so much detailed information.. definitely he deserves much more subscribers.. those who are saying joe's arowana needs him don't forget to remember that joe doesnt think he needs advice from anyone he think he is the only one on earth who is creative.. he thinks he knows every thing and everyone else is grazing grass on this earth... hahaha
For anyone wondering, I have a similar issue with my pleco. Floating upside down, but is eating. We introduced more driftwood, fed a little bit differently and did water changes more frequently. His stomach is about 1/2 its original size, hoping to go back to normal
I thought fish, like this catfish does not have a swimbladder. That's a large number of chemical injections all at the same time. How did he handle it all within the two hours of administering it? Did he ultimately survive the treatment?
So the owner will need to anesthetize him again every2 days and tube feed him till recheck?? Isnt there a problem with piercing and aspiring the fish swimbladder? Thank you
Hello. I have a RTC ABOUT 20” long and just had to move him to our new place. It seemed like he took the move good and ate almost right away. I started feeding him shiners from local bait shop I always go to about two months ago and he loves them. Now a couple of days ago my RTC is rubbing on his side against the bottom of the tank. Going from sitting on the bottom to darting to the other side of the tank. And then goes back to just sitting in one spot. Haven’t fed my RTC IN 2 days. What do you think or suggest to do from here.
Rubbing and darting is consistent with skin irritation, suggestive of ectoparasitic infestation. You'd need to examine a skin mucus scrape under the microscope to check.
Cousin calls "hey want to go out"--- Me --'not now I'm watching the Fish Doctor Operate'--- 😐😐 Cousin--- 'watching the what?? Where? ' o.O😅 😂 this is bad ass. Just when you think you've seen it all....whoa!!
Nice. I just lost a fish too swim bladder. Beautiful redtail by the way. Subscribed. I also have a video of me attempting to relieve one of my fish from swim bladder. I'll upload it soon. Thanks for the video.

The Fish Doctor hi I'm having trouble with my port Jackson, two months ago he started floating not able to go to the bottom to rest, his appetite is fine, now and then he starts to come back to normal then after eating the next day he starts having floating issues. Swims fine, just can't land at the bottom, his tail takes him back up. So he spends most of the time resting at the top upside down. This week is rest at the bottom but also upside down ! He is still eating and swimming find. Please help.
I have an Arowana fish and that fish is suffering from the same problem. I have observed that from the last few days the fish is struggling to swim and currently the fish has turned sideways is just floating. I have figured out what the problem is but I don't understand how to cure it myself. Also there are no medicine available. Please advice .
Hello sir I have a red tail catfish ....I see his skin is light shedding...is it natural or does it will harm to the fish....if it was illness then what should I treat for cure shedding skin?....plzz
I've been struggling with worms and Gill flukes in my tank over a year I've tried gill fluke med such as fluke worm but no luck keep coming back and I'm not introducing any new fishes I'm thinking of bleaching display tank and then swapping the discus fishes and then repeating the process over in the hospital tank few times please advice thanks
We have mobile fish vets in Perth (WA), Melbourne/Brunswick (Victoria), Sydney/Gosford (NSW) and Duffy (ACT) - in AUSTRALIA. We belong to an organisation - WAVMA.org
I feel so sorry for these fish, but it's nice to know there's talent out there like The Good Dr. I'd love to hire a fish dr once in a while when we get ich and fin rot, so I can get some no nonsense meds. There are no Fish Drs in Toronto
Hi doctor Loh, today when I wake up my redtail catfish floating like the fish in this video. I was really helpless and there is no veterinarians here in sri lanka. After I watched this video I had to do the same things which you are doing in this video. And finally I think my fish is stable and please give me an E-mail address to contact you for further details. 🙏
I'm assuming your from Australia if so you would probably be familiar with the Tandanus catfish.......i've got one about the size of that fish your treating. My catfish which i've had since it was virtually a size of a small 'tadpole size' isn't in as bad condition as that one your treating, but shows signs it could become like that one day . It's stomach is enlarged.......look's like it's got bloat ? It hasn't really been feeding on itself.......i've been hand feeding it. It sort of rests at time's upward......unusual for a bottom fish i guess. It at time's has marks on it's body.......i've been treating it with aquarium salt and a reliable fish medication . Also struggles breathing badly at most time's......all of these symptoms have been going on for a while now and doesn't seem to be going away. I've added extra air ect.....no change ? Hopefully you can respond ........THIS FISH DESERVES TO LIVE HAPPILY.
