So If you had a choice between a kayak and a canoe to fish from, would you have a preference for the upper Mississippi? I’m considering taking my 10 year old son up there and we’ve got access to both types of boats. Just wondered what would be better. Great videos 👍
Would you have any recommendations of things or areas to avoid for an upper Mississippi smallie trip? I’m not asking you to give up your spots or anything, I’m just in the research phase. I found some good info on the Minnesota dnr page as far as access areas. Did you guys camp somewhere? I found you guys on via the smallie talk podcast. I’m local to you guys.
@@RA-zl6iw nothing that I can think of to avoid. The flows were really good when we were there (2020-2021). We stayed in Airbnb's right on the river both years. That allowed us to focus the majority of our time on fishing and hitting different sections of river.
new to the channel, good content! Assuming you aren't from mn? Are river smallies where you are from not usually this big? lol Im from mn so catching 16-19inchers is normal for me.
Thanks! I'm from Indiana, so catching 18" and 19"+ literally every cast is not normal for me 🤣. I caught maybe two fish under 17" while I was up there. Ridiculous.
@@yakbrosmn7521 yeah man it's pretty insane. The river smallies up there look like fat lake smallies. I think it's a mix of the longer/colder seasons causing them to grow slower/larger, and the forage. The crawfish alone up there are very large and abundant. Don't get me wrong, Indiana has some great smallmouth waters but nothing compared to up north.
