Jeff, the wads may have been the wrong diameter for your bore. Standard US 12ga is .729, but Europe uses .724. Mossberg also uses overbore dimensions of .733 on some of their barrels that are not designed for slug use. This could explain the gas blow-by? Maybe try a separate oversized gas seal?
"And next week Danny will fire a rear facing anvil with 3 oz. of Longshot from a handheld mixing bowl . . ." You boys are cruel to that man. Time to invent the shoulder mounted 'TFM Thumpometer'. Happy New Year y'all : )
Thought quite a few times too. Some gunsmith should come up with a super heavy taofledergun that eats a lot of recoil just through being overbuild and heavy. Would also give me more peace of mind when it comes to some of the weird projectiles possibly blowing up the shotgun.
@@johnathanmcdoe - Inert mass & containment works, to a point - check out 'Mae and The Wall Gun'. Seeing Danny's last 'shadow shot', I'm now thinking of the gun suspended in a Newton's Cradle with the butt resting against a row of equally well hung bowling balls. eg. 'Bang, clack, wheeee, clack - DUCK!' : )
Those shadow shots were definitely worth doing. Obviously only practical when you have extra rounds to play with, but if you ended up with a batch that were wildly inaccurate, making for lousy footage of missed shots, you could save the day by switching to shadow mode to look for hints of what was going wrong, and get some interesting stuff that way.
A lot of channels I enjoy have kind of fizzled out or gotten kind of blah over time. I'm glad that over the years your content has remained both interesting and quality. It feels more like you're just hitting your stride. The editing and the information just keep getting better, along with the humor. But keeping OG audio only for a video is a tease.
As always another very interesting and educational video. There is a lot to be learned from high speed footage. The "shadowgraph" shots were cool to. Thanks for making these videos.
I enjoyed this video about the physics about the fluid dynamics of objects travelling through air at different velocities. Happy new year to the team over there at Taophysicmaus.
Jeff and crew, I really enjoyed this one. Especially the shadowgraph. This video is entertaining as well as educational. You fellow's are doing some great work.
Always good - wonderful video and a superb shadow footage for this improvised setup! Those new rounds look very mean - and lovely!!! Can't wait!!! Happy new year (with lot's of funny and fascinating "stuff" flying all over the place) Jeff, Gregg & Danny.
Good Morning , Jeff Those are some MEAN hitting slugs ! That was a Great way of seeing the different rounds look as they are fired! Always a good time watching your channel ! Take Care and Be Safe
Can't wait to see the super exotics, and I would love to see more of the shadow stuff in the future. Another great video from you guys and I hope you have a happy new year
That's a first rate idea y'all, really informative seeing so many things happening... So cool! The blow-by is something I've seen from other test filmed similar to your method... LoL, the way that gun hopped, Danny's shoulder probably didn't mind.. Thanks,
Happy New Year! But how can you doubt Danny can make a shot? I bet he aims with his left eye because it's a damn cyborg implant! I know there is video of some weird stuff where Danny or O.G miss an easy shot but as far as I know I ain't never seen Danny miss. I mean he called every shot on the lead plate even when that slug was doin the Cirque du Soleil. That being said (or stamped out with my thumbs), another great video! Thanks! Sorry didn't watch the whole video. I'm sorry, I forgot how educational and scientific you get in these videos. Thank you again for the awesome work.
Interesting shadowgrams, very informative and you identified the gas leakage as the reason you were not getting the velocities you expected. Major Burrard, an English gent who wrote the (still) definitive 3volume set of books on shotgun ballistics was clear in his view that a poor crimp on a cartridge resulted in inferior performance. The powder relies on some strong resistance to burn properly before the projectile begins to move, otherwise a bad gas seal and blow-by is the result.
Keep showing "mistakes" and when things do go as planned. There are no mistakes when doing experiments like these. I watch several amateur chemistry channels and things often don't go as expected, but knowledge is still gained in these situations. It's all good as long no one gets hurt and equipment is not damaged, and as reloader and shooter I know you guys work safe.
I, for one, would like to see more shadowgraphs of the rounds as they fly through the air. If you get a roll of paper or white painted plywood and mount the shotgun farther away so the muzzle blast doesn't interfere with the video, you should be able to get some excellent shadowgraphs.
Love the vids Jeff! Great to see or hear all of you out there! Thank you so much all of you for taking the time to make these entertaining videos! The study of high speed projectiles has never been this cool! I wish you all a Happy New Year!
I like that slug, I think I'm going to buy that mold and start melting down this box of tire weights. Awesome video as always and Happy New year to everyone.
The Svarog molds are becoming pretty popular. It takes a long time for them to arrive, I think a month, but I haven't heard any complaints other than that.
Great job guys, I always love your videos, you really do a great job! Happy New Year from the Black Hills of South Dakota, I can't wait to see what's next!
I would say! Definitely a good video and fun to watch. Everything from actors to movie director 😄 and stuff from different countries you using is Awesome!
Im really happy for this test, always wondered how one would fly backwards. Like you were saying in the previous video, I used to always load my normal diabolo pellets backwards. Seemed it didnt affect accuracy at all and the Starlings died just as fast, if not quicker most of the time
