One of the disadvantages of adapting books to TV is that you can't hide a secret identity from the audience because of actors. When Barristan joined Daenerys in the books, we didn't know it was Barristan for absolutely ages. He masqueraded as "Arstan Whitebeard", and Jorah didn't recognise him because he hadn't seen him in ages, and he'd grown a big beard.

I read that Charles Dance, the actor of Tywin, felt so bad about the things his character always says to Tyrion, that after each take he went to apologize to Peter Dinklage 😅

When Jamie mentioned that there are only a handful of people who might be able to beat him in a straight-up duel, Sir Barristan Selmy is one of them so when Jorah says he's one of the greatest fighters the seven kingdoms has ever seen, he's not exaggerating at all. He really could have carved up the gold cloaks (City Watch) like a cake when he was "fired." I love that character so much.

Alot of people get annoyed with what Tywin said to Tyrion in this episode but what do you expect when Tywin tried to kill him by putting him in the vanguard in season 1 episode 9 when rob captured Jamie but I guess with neds death people seem to forget that Tywin has no love for Tyrion

The whitewalker fight in the beginning sounded so much more scarier in the books! Sam had one job and it was the ravens but the wind and snow were really bad along with the fighting. He really tried to send a raven if I remember.

Margaery is masterfully manipulative, but in a good way. She isn't malicious, like Cersei. She convinces people to do or feel things that benefit her, which incidently pretty always happen to benefit them as well. Feeding the poor makes Margaery popular with the commonfolk, which benefits her and reinforces her status, but it also... you know... feeds the poor. Most nobles in Westeros couldn't care less abour what the poor think, so that on its own is a point in Margaery's favour both as a person and a leader. Also yes... Cersei is incredibly jealous, and it IS funny and entertaining, lol

Tywin blaming Tyrion for his wife/mother's death is a good mention. In the lore, Joanna was the only person that Tywin truly loved and the only person who ever made him laugh. So Tyrion has a couple of negatives going against him in regards to his father. His birth resulted in the death of the one person Tywin ever loved and he is a dwarf.

Now you can finally see why people love Margaery so much. Season three is so amazing. So many new amazing characters, great plotlines and character growth. One of my favorites.

The scene where The pirate told Davos about his bones around his widow neck is a nod to the books. I the books Davos wears his lost finger bones around his neck for luck and loses them in the battle of the black water (season 2 episode 9)

Personal opinion without spoilers: Season 4 is the best, then Season 3, Season 1 & 2 are world building, now the show starts.

The Wildlings know the Stark name because Starks have been ruling the North for thousands of years, and before the Targaryens conquered Westeros, the reined as King's of the North. Also, plenty of Starks served at the Wall. Lastly Jon's last tells every he's a high-born bastard from the North.

I would totally see a show only centered around Tyrion and Bron, called "Tyrion and Bron's Naughty Adventures", where they sail the world in search of the God of Tits and Wine. That would do a nice board game also.

21:35 this was seriously peak Game of Thrones. Not one thing discussed in this scene is important (basically) but the subtext behind nearly every word that’s said tells it instead. It begins with Margaery “leading” Loras into the conversation, demonstrating that she’ll bend to whatever Joffrey says (specifically the forced laugh at the “at what point does it become treason to waste a kings time?”). Followed by Cersei jabbing at Margaery about her clothing, implying that the choice to show so much skin is intentional. Margaery doesn’t take the bait, and again Cersei jabs at her with the “open heart in Flea Bottom” comment. This is where Joffrey intervenes and insults Cersei, something Margaery obviously has wanted to do this entire scene, yet she doesn’t laugh. She doesn’t comment, but rather she watches Cersei intently, determined to see the reaction she’ll give to Joffrey’s disrespect. Cersei takes it on the face (which she doesn’t do for any other character besides maybe Tywin in a few scenes) and basically backs down to Joffrey’s challenge. Cersei even says “you’re right of course,” like, you don’t hear her so passive almost anywhere else in the show. In this scene Margaery learns two things; one, that Joffrey is always right. She’ll have to bend to his will, or at least make him think that she is, to get anything out of him. And two; that Cersei actually backs down to someone. That if she (Margaery) can gain control over Joffrey, then she will too obtain control over Cersei. Brilliant scene. Kudos to the actors playing Cersei, Margaery, and Joffrey; very well done.

Khals get a lot of pressure from their khalasars , at any moment they can be challenged by their people and so they have to constantly prove how strong and ruthless they are ( we all saw khal drogo pull the tongue of a blood rider out of his skull that challenged him) .

Ser Barristan Selmy truly is one of the best swordsmen and most honorable men in all the Seven Kingdoms. At the Battle of the Trident, where Robert killed Rhaegar, Ser Barristan, who fought for the Targaryens, was seriously wounded and dying. Robert, who was also badly wounded, was informed of Ser Barristan Selmy's fate, and he immediately ordered his own maester to go save him. That speaks volumes on how much everybody respected him, even his enemies. There were a lot of hints throughout season 1 and 2 on how much of a honorable and lethal mf this guy was and is. When Jamie told Brienne that there were three men in the Kingdoms who might have a chance against him (Jamie), you could bet your house that one of those three he was thinking of, was Ser Barristan Selmy.
