Want more Kirk? Check him out in our episode of Metal & Monsters where he talks about making music with Metallica and his love of all things horror: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ofN_kIk6ios.html.
They world is full of haters. I for one am glad a guitarist bought it and it’s being played on stage. Regardless how you feel about Kirk, his playing, or his style. He has been successful and the guitar continues to be played for the masses and not sitting in a safe somewhere being rubbed down by a diaper. Standby for forum hating players negative comment 🍿
Kirk is one of my favorite musicians....but not because of his music alone. he has such a beautiful soul. he doesnt try to play the role of the hard ass; being his own true self is why i really admire him. what a giving, wonderful person he is!
that's who buys a Gibson, basically they are like the Harley Davidson of the guitar world, eventually those people stop playing, or die off, and Gibson will be left wondering who are they going to sell guitars too.
Gibson tried to innovate and bring some new things to the market, and people lost their f-ing minds. So now they can only do colors and runs, and stick to what sells.
Gary Moores Blues Alive performance was the reason I wanted a trans amber 95 classic. Still have it 28 years later. If you haven’t seen that performance, it’s one of the greatest musical performances EVER!
i agree 100%, gary is the 1 guitarist were ive listened to his live and album stuff and just gone blank and went wow. he is the most outstanding musician ive ever heard. he makes that guitar sing like no other person can, i could watch his live versions for hours on end and still enjoying it like a kid in a candy shop.
"If people wanna play it, even complete strangers, sure, play it all you want" Ok Kirk I want to play it. Forever please. For the rest of my days will do. Drop it off tonight, ok? Thanks.
Remember kids,,,,,today's deals ......are tomorrows bargain,,,....better than in any bank....limited edition,,,so..5-8 years from now it will bring more than interest..............notsorry😯
That is a tall drink of water, but with original 59' Les Pauls fetching $500k or more, a very limited replica is probably a good deal. It's all based on what the market will bear. I have an original Collectors Choice Peter Green 59' Ser #6 and It's worth that much. It's a fantastic guitar.
Not at all, they're fine with ESP. Gibson has way too many QC issues. It would be cool to have a James Hetfield explorer, but even back then he primarily used ESP.
Gibson TV did a hour long show with Kirk, Kirk and James are ESP artists, lets not forget that ESP allows them to play whatever they want, and they still choose to play ESP over anything else. Kirk and James have been so loyal to ESP because ESP has been loyal to them.
Gibson, y'all did such an immaculate job on my 2018 Standard that I no longer covet any other guitar on the face of this planet. Not Greeny, Pearly Gates, Pagey's #1 & #2... no other guitar could match or replace the instrument y'all made for me. It's been a 30 year dream for me since first seeing Slash wield it on MTV or seeing mom's Frampton Comes Alive record up to now when I can reach in the case and pull out the guitar I had manifested over so many years. I can't thank y'all enough. ❤
Quick! Take a breath! Anyone sucking so hard will lose consciousness and possibly die! It's just not worth dying in front of dozens of Urologists. Thank God I saved your life. You are welcome.
I've heard Kirk talk about this guitar at length in previous interviews. I never heard him mention that he'd noticed the guitar as a kid and thought about wanting it. That's gotta be awesome to finally own something like that. Be like me owning one of Hetfield's Ken Lawrence explorers. The one he used in the late 90s early 2000s specifically is my dream guitar.
Honestly, Kirk can't hold a candle to Gary playing wise but it's awesome that this instrument didn't go to a collector who'd just lock it up. I saw this guitar live(with Kirk), amazing.
@josemojicaperez4436 when I saw them last year, when he was playing the intro solo to Fade, he was right in front of me on stage! Pretty sure he used it on a few other songs as well.
Personally i dont really like greeny getting called kirks guitar ( no hate against kirk) since if you look at its legacy , with gary moore (imo the best guitarist of all time). gary made that guitar sing like no other instrument or guitarist can, gary had the most outstanding solos, the greatest melodies and songs ive heard. John norum once said "when you listen to gary it makes you feel someting, someting like no other guitarist can" and i think that summs up how great gary was. and before gary there were peter green in the early stages of fleetwood mac.
At least it is being played. I find it sickening that David Gilmour's black strat is sitting on Jim Irsay's mantle, so, again, at least Greenie is being played...
@@NigelTufnel612 100% i agree but i dont think that its being represented in the best way possible, i think that it should have gone to either jack moore, or if you look at billy Merziotis he is i think the best at playing like gary. but i agree 100% that its better beeing played than standing in a room some where.
So, you're saying Gary Moore never played a beautiful solo on it? I agree the new owner isn't in the same class but that's one sweeping generalisation in your comment. It's called Greeny as PG was the original owner, nothing more.
This guitar has just transitioned to another level. lets be real if some dude that was looking to stick it in a museum we'd all be gutted. Great to see it go to another guitar player...
Limited run - they will cost a small fortune. I met Peter back in '69 and i held and strummed 'greeny' , it wasn't the faded lemon colour it has morphed into but a nice sunburst red colour. 🎸😎
Kirk is such a nice guy. Greenie remains in good hands... This guitar sounded great playing blues (Gary Moore and BB playing "thrill..."). Now in Metallica it sounds MASSIVE.
The Epiphone of tomorrow will have a premium line and a special artist editions line. While Gibson USA continues to price simple guitars into the stratosphere, becoming the icon brand.
I’m digging that Gibson is going full throttle into their heritage and lore and doing their best to give enthusiasts what they want while being unfettered by the naysayers. The expensive reissues aren’t the only ones they’ll make. Imagine Ford etc putting out an actual 68 fastback or Hoonicorn for that matter. Dodge has that wheels-up drag pack from the factory too. That’s essentially what Gibson are doing here. A great time to be alive I say 👏👏
Confused with your comment. The greeny he has was bought from Gary was almost 2 million. However, yes 20k for this shit nah. I can make one myself cheaper.
It's cool you guys made a version that only your board of directors and celebrities can afford, but when can us mere mortals expect the $1k epiphone version?
LMAO I thought so too! When he was talking about the note sustain, all I could think about was Nigel going, "You could go and have a bite, still be hearing that one"
@@michaelcantinieri7890 I actually like that he has it as opposed to a rock/blues great. Being in the world's biggest metal band gives the guitar better exposure to people who otherwise wouldn't even know about it's existence.
Gibson could come with a regular USA Greeny model and and Epiphone one afterwards, where the pickups and neck shape are modeled after the original, but no relic and no 20K price tag, so that normal people can actuallt acquire one.
So if Kirk bumps the guitar and makes a new scratch on the original Greeny, do Gibson people come to your house and recreate the new scratch on your copy? That would explain why it costs 20k.
When KH passes on in another 25 years or so, Bonamassa will snag it, adding it to his horde of ‘bursts that will by that time amount to 92% of all of them ever made.
You can flip the magnet in the neck pickup yourself if your confident enough to disassemble the pickup and turn the magnet round. I did it on my Les Paul and it sounds just like 'greeny's' tone. You can watch me playing my 'Good bye Greeny - Tribute To Peter Green @ utube Alfie Henshall. 🎸😎
I had one of those back in 2000.. not so great. Can't even remember what exactly i did with it other then i know i sold it or traded it for something else
The link is missing. I do have to say, I have a regular Gibson USA Slash in Appetite and that is my go to guitar for everything. I play all of my guitars, but that's the one with the most road time. I would like to think that once a Gibson USA of Greenie hits the streets, I'll be just as inspired. Keep on doing what you're doing, Gibson. Personally, I think some of the best Gibsons in decades are being produced right now.
I am sure an Epiphone version will come along at some point,, just like they do with Joe Bonamassa and Alex Jones. They understand that none everyone can afford to purchase at such an elite level.
It is laughable that there is STILL Kirk bashing going on! Kirk has been playing in METALLICA forever! He has nothing to prove to anyone! I would really like to hear the people bashing him on this post play their instruments. I'd like to hear their records! Those who can play do so, those who can't put other people down. KUDOS TO KIRK for letting millions more people hear the sound of this guitar. Wouldn't these people crap their pants if he just hung it on his wall? For what it's worth, I am not a Metallica fan, but I respect the members of the band. They have a remarkable resume!
Sweet baby Jesus!!!! Congratulations Gibson Impecable work and doing an amazing job. Hope one day I can get my hands on a masterpiece like this!!! Abrazo Mexicano. 🤘🏻🇲🇽🤘🏻🇲🇽🤘🏻🇲🇽🤘🏻
So for $20k it's not even a Ltd Edition (unlike the $50k sold out edition) but 'made to order'...? Seems pretty steep compared to other aged Murphy lab models
The Les Paul guitar did not make Peter Green magnificent, Peter Green made the Les Paul guitar magnificent. Money can not buy talent, feel or timing. Practice that's what makes music, not how much money you waste on a luxury.
Totally agree with you..That is the real truth. I play fairly cheap guitars. And I have a better sound, technique AND improvisation than my rich friends..
“Hey, wow, I bet that guitar has a story behind it?” “Yeah, it’s brand new, it’s just been made to look like somebody else’s beaten up guitar. Cost me $30,000” “Oh..”
Gibson Greeny is heading a very good direction. Now that we have at medium price range, can we have an extra friendly price for Greeny just like those 3 price range of Adam Jones guitar?
yeah i'm hoping they release the production model greeny for around that $4,000 mark, but i suspect it might be more like 6,000 (so thats $8,000 Australian)
Why is it the “Kirk Hammett Greeny”? If anything it should be the Peter Green. Greeny is short hand for Peter Green. Semantics to some. Respectful to me.
Mr. Hammett.. Any chance you want to make a life long fans life and donate one of these to a guy who dreams he could afford one. Really if I could, I buy one in a heart beat! Gibson you guys are awesome! One day... One day! 👍
Couldn’t get my hands on the $50K Greeny last year cos, well Caesar has to save a couple for his good friends (Jason Momoa, etc). Gonna pick this one up….
As a massive fan of musical instruments, and a synth nerd, there is absolutely NOTHING that makes a vintage musical instrument worth more than it was originally sold for.
@@roughcutguitars it's madness. People are paying 1.2k for an original 303. Absolutely outrageous. When it comes to vintage guitars and classic synths, it just gets absurd.
Unless you put "in my opinion" your comment was totally meaningless, because it's a demonstrable fact attribution adds value, if I had two EMS vocoders for sale, one was $400 and one was $425, and the $425 one was owned by Florian Schneider I know which one you would by, don't even try to deny it
Generally it's because of Rarity they aren't around anymore so they cost more money. When it comes to it belonging to somebody else it's because that person held it used it their literal sweat and DNA is on it so yeah it should definitely be worth more. Some people just value things more they understand the personality if you will behind it. That said there's no way that this should be $20,000
