The *Bombs are Alnico 5s and the Custombuckers are Alnico 3 magnets. This reveals the difference between the two pickups. Alnico 3 magnets are going to be less loud, but smooth attack with more midrange. While the Alnico 5 magnets will be brighter, louder, and seemingly clearer, but punchy attack and less smooth.
The 8Bombs have a lot more clarity than the Custombuckers, which is what I prefer, esp. in the neck. It's good to see that your guitars sound as good as they look!
Keep up the great work! I'm very happy to see your English has evolved so much, that now you don't need voice overs :) Well done for all and greetings from Greece!🤟
I just joined your Patreon. I'm the guy that just emailed you about my Vaschenko. I think your Goldies are the best sounding PAF I've heard yet. Been a huge fan of yours for a long time.
Great video! I wonder how much of the difference in sound between these pickups comes down to the actual magnets. The A5 magnet used in the Goldie is known for being a higher output, mid scooped magnet with lots of treble and bass. An interesting test would be to compare each set of pickups with the same magnets to see if there is any noticeable difference in the sound. I suspect it would be much less noticeable then it is in this comparison.
Your Eightbomb pickups sound fantastic! And passion and determination have helped you build something special. I wish Eightbomb a very successful year (may all your late night pay off)! Keep the passion! 💙
Like one of the other posters pointed out this isn't really an even comparison since there are different magnets being compared. Big difference in attack and compression and the different winding resistance strengths also add to the tonal differences. Both brands sound good depending on your personal choice or flavor of tone but the 8Bombs do have a more open soundstage and brighter which leads me to think they are unpotted but the Gibsons sounds a little less open and airy.
i 'd like to buy a pickup set.59 or goldie..what am i choose one..beacuse these are different wire used, a very serious concern , haha it s .very nice tone..as well, nice designed
Great sounding pickups! I would love to see a video comparing the construction and materials of both models, someone told me that the Burstbuckers and Custombuckers don’t have the characteristics of a true P.A.F Pickup
какие магниты в случае с кастомабакерами? 2? Голди ведь пятёрки кажется у вас? Если так, то конечно они ярче, выразительнее, детальнее, но хотелось бы с 58 и 59 сравнить сетом
of course the 8 bombs sound cleaner and brighter but the soft tone on the les paul is important to me so the Gibson gives that soft enveloping i would say soothing tone.
@@8BombCustom but the value of the sound of a guitar is not in how it memorizes separately, the most valuable thing is how the instrument sounds in a rock band. Do you have an example video of how your PAF will learn it in a recording of a blues or rock band track?
I thought it would be hard to hear the difference, but Holy Sustain, 8BombCustom are way brighter and have more body, even heard on iMac speakers. Bravo!
Thanks. There are many factors at play here. Wire, number of turns, tension, coil geometry, magnet ... Even the accuracy of the layout of the turns. I always compare it to cooking a meal. Soup or sauce. We regulate the final taste by the quality and quantity of products and spices, cooking technology. Or with copying Flemish still lifes, where pigments, the technology of applying paints and lacquering play an important role. It can even be somewhat compared to the butterfly effect, only in a very narrow sense.
Super test! On the amp I like your pickups better with the chords. are a little more open and crisper. with the single notes I hear almost no difference. via the audio interface ( the pure di sound- much better ! ) you can hear the difference best. your pickups sound much brighter and slightly scooped. the custombuckers have a little too much bass for me
Your Goldie pickups have a brighter, much more articulate tone with better string balance and note separation. The Gibson Custombuckers sound less distinct and kind of muddy because they aren't even close to ANY 1959 or 1960 P.A.F. They have the wrong magnets (Alnico III instead of Alnico IV or V) and have coils intentionally mismatched, (which did occur occasionally), but most guitars had a mismatch in output between the neck and bridge pickups, as the winding machines didn't have automatic stops until about 1961 or 1962. They wound 4 complete humbucking pickups on each machine, which were paired up 90+% of the time. Your pickups are much closer to vintage P.A.F.'s! Rock On, Brother!!
I`ve prefer the middleposition of guitars, so there the custombucker havea bit noose in front. the neckpickups are both excellent, the Bridge pickups the gbson in my opnion less twangy a bit harmonical. the bass of all pckups is very thight, in my opon the guitar is the mismatch for this pickup, the better guitar for pickups is a 335. or a hollowbody jazzguitar. thats the point, clarity is O.K. but twanginess is a part of the build. and your amplifier, not your Pickup. So the gibsons are quite better because harmonic.
Ну вот, это самое главное 😁 вся фишка в высоких частотах и воздушности. Кастомбакеры тоже очень хороши, по сравнению с остальными моделями гибсон, но все же немного подрезаны по верхам.
Why everybody cares of resistance? If you take out magnet resistance will stay same. The voice is in number of turns, inductance and parasitic capacitance. Depending on wire tension you will get different number of turns with same resistance. Resistance is useless parameter.
