Quick recording just with a Sure SM57 in front of a Brunetti Singleman 16. No EQ or something else invovled. Just the pure sound of a great guitar paired with a great amp.
This is what i use for recording (Amazon affiliate links):

There's something really special about P90s, I love 'em. I see a big difference in the neck pickup compared to humbuckers......crisper and clearer.

I agree! I prefer the clean tone of a p90 over a humbucker! Also most all the videos here on YT with ES335's sound muffled and dark. This one is clear, bright, sweet, and yet powerful! Yes!

@cailebouellette5815 4 года назад
I don’t like this comment for several reasons. 1. Distortion is not fake 2. Most of the best guitar players ever use distortion, so by those standards they suck. (This is my opinion)
@Bottiglianelleonde
@Bottiglianelleonde 4 года назад
@@cailebouellette5815 The real distortion was born by mistake, due to amp speakers failure. But it became pleasant and symbolic of a dirty and angry sound, suitable for the times and for the 'new' rock music (which I love). That said, some manufacturers began to put on the market some pedals (actually very valuable) that imitated the sound texture of a distortion. And this is fine, although I have never appreciated artists who use distortion by transforming the sound of the electric guitar into a violin. And this may still be fine. What I don't like (and that perhaps too many don't consider) is that the distortion transforms the sound of a guitar into something else that changes its original timbre, so that we cannot appreciate its native qualities. This is my own opinion too.

@@cailebouellette5815 i would suggest that Vai , satriani , etc do suffer tonally ..i dont even think they have a good distorted tone ...just like a building must have good foundation , same with clean tone ....build from there and you cant go wrong . It's so difficult to note the difference on the tones of different guitar. I'ver learnt thah only playing them for some hours you could tell the most little details. Have you had the chance to compare it with a 335 with humbuckers? In your opinion, which are the differences?
@brianbrazil4426
@brianbrazil4426 3 года назад
Yes there is big difference. I had a 1966 Cherry Finish Gibson ES330 that has 2 dog ear P90s and 1968 Walnut finish ES335 with humbuckers. The tone is different P90s are grittier and have a low frequency hum if you are near florescent lighting, riostats or other electrical interference produced by machines in bars. That's why Gibson had to come up with a new styles pickup Humbuckers.

Just played a 335 with p90s in a local guitar store today...the difference is very noticeable. More grit, spank and top end. There’s an alive quality to the tone, that has a certain raw unpredictable quality. Switching back to humbuckers, evens things out in a slightly disappointing way.

I had a 1966 Cherry Finish Gibson ES330 that had 2 dog ear P90s just like yours it was a hollow body and no center block of mahogany under the pickups it came with trapeze tail piece too. I also had 1968 ES 335. If it's got P90s like that yours it use to be labeled ES 330. Unless it has a solid block of wood under the pickups and has humbucker pickups then it was a ES 335. They're combining and changing models instead of making new ones again.

@brianbrazil4426 3 года назад
@@tonsoftonez202, Look up their catalog of models. According to their website the ES 335 with P90s comes in black has a center block of mahogany under the pickups. It also lists the ES 330 with P90 pickups the finish is tobacco sunburst and it has slant block inlays on the fretboard instead of the dot inlays that they use to have. Gibson didn't use to put the name of the model on truss rod cover either they use to put a label inside the body on the left Florentine opening.

@@brianbrazil4426 Varitones settings are a series of preset notch filters, the same as have been used on some synthesizers. No reason why they would not work on single coils as well as humbuckers.
