Great comparison demo. Some of the other comparison videos used guitars with different pickups, so this is more useful and valid than those others. ES 335 sounds better overall to my ears. ES 339 sounds a little darker.
I am 5'5". I had a 1960 Memphis 335TD reissue with Kluson Vintage tuners. Nice guitar but too big and heavy for me. It never stayed in tune. I am awaiting delivery on a new 339 with Grover Rotomatic Kidney button tuners. I'm hoping the weight and size of the 339 suits me better and that it stays in tune better than the 335. Nice demo of sound comparison. The 339 is smaller and lighter, and the sound is close enough to the 335 for me.
I have another 339 that came with fancy "memphis historic something" pickups and did not liked them at all, replaced those with p90s and that guitar sounds amazing, have a video of that one compared to a casino coupe on the channel.
When I bought both guitars, I contacted gibson to see if they were for real, provided pictures, serial numbers, etc and both were corroborated by gibson as legit and with everything stock. Aside from having the certificate and paperwork. Apparently at the memphis factory they had a lot of freedom for these models.
I'm pretty sure that the only reason you need a 339 over a 335 is if either your wall space or the distance between your armpit and your waist is incredibly limited 😁
haha, true. with the 335 It´s more when I´m playing standing up, if I move around my leg keeps pushing the guitar back and forward. It also looks like I´m playing my dad´s guitar.
Or If you prefer a lighter guitar for any number of reasons. idk like maybe Always lugging 2 around (slide), injury, you just dig it. etc. etc.OR if you just WANT one. Great Vid.
now I see my 339 like a lighter version of my les paul and that works better. Used to have a les paul ES, built in the same fashion as the 339 and 335 and that was too light for me.
@@terryn1965 they are closer to each other than the 335, but still, les paul has a thicker round sound than the 339. I´ll do another video between my other 339 and my les paul since I already sold the two guitars from this video. The 339 is a little bit cleaner and so light compared to the les paul that it's worth keeping both.
@@Biovoguitar Do you like the thicker rounder sound of the Es Lespaul more than the 339 & yes would love that video. I have a Les Paul Junior and I love it but I have come to the conclusion I want a lighter guitar. 335 is too big, so that leaves 339, a les Paul junior or I might try some hollow body fenders.
@@wildeocean I prefer the sound of my les paul because it´s thicker and warmer and its the other side of the spectrum all the way to my strat, which is my other all time favorite. I actually turned to Les Paul tribute since they are lighter than Les Paul classics, its a huge difference, same thing with the Les Paul Jr and Jr special, my back likes them better. I also had a couple of telecaster thinlines, some of them it´s only half of the body hollow, the sound and weight are not that different but the telecaster thinline carbonita with tvjones is true semihollow and a joy to play.
I wish Gibson did the 335 with NO NIBS on the neck. The nibs are a real pian in the neck and let the guitar down. Try the Ibanez AS93 or the Epiphone 335 IBG. They do not have nibs are easily better than the Gibson 335 and cost less.
