I went to a guitar shop and yried the Epi j200 and gibson sj200. Big difference in sound, can tell straight away but for my budget i will buy the epi j200
Thank you for sharing ng this. I just replaced my Taylor 314CE to a Gibson J45. This Gibson J45 is by far superior to my old Taylor. I am one of the worship leader here in LA and Gibson helped me to do acoustic worship with a better balance and mix in our mixer. Now I am looking around for a 2nd guitar because sometimes we conduct service outside the church which is the guitar gets exposed to the elements. I am looking for a 2nd guitar for that but I need something inexpensive yet will able to perform on acoustic settings. Now I am quite convinced that Epiphone will do the job. Its not as nice sounding as my Gibby, but close enough but for sure its fraction of a cost.
Thank you so much. Yes, same here I have two Taylor GS Mini before I sold them coz the sound is too bright for me. I like the balance and warm sound specially the J200 include the sound of J45.
That's an unfair assessment. I have a 414ce spring limited and a 2017 j45. They are vastly different guitars. Both impeccable and sound like each one should. Even comparing my Gibson hummingbird to my j45 is slightly unfair because we go from sloped shoulder to extremely square shoulders
Great overall comparison, Im sure if you removed the sound hole pickup from the Epiphone it would resonate much better. No question the Gibson should sound better but is it worth approx $3500 more than the Epiphone, probably not.
I know which I’d rather not drop on the floor! I bet you can guess! I’ve had the Epi with the two pups for 8 years and it sounds sweeter as it gets older 😊 I’ve played both as my friend has the Gibson and a Martin D45 which I’ve also compared! For the kind of money we’re talking the Epiphone is a no brainer in my opinion 🏴🇬🇧
Nice breakdown, im looking at getting the epiphone or sigma versions so I've been watching lots of these vids, Great choice of songs, it was a joy to listen. take care.
The Gibson certainly does not sound £2,500 better than the Epiphone. I have had a real J-200 and the Epiphone version and I found the Epiphone to be slightly thinner sounding. I'm considering the new Epiphone J-200 in sunburst for nostalgic reasons. Certainly not paying three grand for a Gibson.
Thank you for the great effort on this especially for those considering between this two, maybe you can share the measurements and strings used that might’ve affects their tone and playability. Again thanks and enjoy ‘em blondies! 👍🏻 #haveagreatday
My EJ200 is different than the one in the demo in that mine has the body cut-out for the upper fret board. The example in the video doesn't. I'm curious why that is? I dig my EJ for what it is, at my level of playing it's great, and actually sounds full and fabulous. I thought about the Gibson, but just couldn't justify it when the Epi is such a good value.
If you have the money, Gibson by all means! Epiphone isn’t bad at all ! I have a Chinese made J200 Jumbo(made according to Gibson’s specs). It plays very well too!!
I agree. The Epiphone-guitar produced crystalline-chords that linger long after they're played.. in contrast to the Gibson which had a less powerful linger that fell flat, losing both volume and power. I believe this video might not be making a fair comparison since it is unclear if both guitars are made of the types of tone-woods or NOT; for instance it takes hard strumming to get sounds out of mahogany-guitars compared to macassar Ebony ones.. The Gibson is almost warmer, but if you hadn't mentioned it, I wouldn't have realized the difference. They both deserve a perfect rating of 10 out of 10.
Man, it's a tough one I actually like the Epiphone just has something I would guess the Gibson would have a better feel and with the Nitro finish and all but its close.
The Gibson sounds maybe +/-10% better than the Epiphone, but 500%? I would love to see a high-end professional play his/her first set with a Gibson and his/her second set with Epiphone and see if one audience member notices. Even if that were played out a thousand times, I doubt you'd get one comment.
I've played both these guitars (in store). The Epiphone is very nice but is nowhere near as nice as the Gibson counterpart. But you wouldn't reasonably expect it to.
The Gibson just sounds more studio versions. . I have a gibson sj 200 from china and there is zero difference. Try order one. You be surprised, cost me under 400 euro. Im irish
