📚Description: On April 30, 2024 - Gibson launched the Reissue of the Electric 12 String Non-reverse Firebird V with little-to-no fan fare. Unless you ran into one of these at a shop, you didn't stand a chance to see this release since there was no front-page of the website push, social media posts or anything! I've only seen the Gibson Garage post about one yesterday. This is actually pretty exciting as outside of the EDS-1275, the Custom shop hasn't produced a stand alone 12-string model... for a really long time. Maybe if these sell well, we will get more.

@@jehogue7907 Squire wins on value for buck. Any well made electric body/neck can be made to play and sound great with the right setup, mods and upgrades. Most instruments less than $5k need a good setup immediately. The Gibson is strictly a fanboy thing. The sound demo of this one DID NOT impress. While back I took a $125 CCP Glarry strat-alike shaped 12 and went over it. Plays and sounded great and sold quickly when I wanted it gone.

That 12 string neck thru you have is easily the coolest of all of the Gibson 12s but I dig that non rev FB 12 string you have there. I really like it!

I am glad you have a shout out to Warren Haynes, he is a big user of Gibson 12 string electrics. His 12 string LP is supposed to be #1. All his Firebirds are Non Reverse. I will just about bet there will be at least 2 of these in his touring coffin (primary and back up for each tuning). Wish Farmer (RIP) Warren's legendary guitar tech was still with us, he named all of Warren's guitars. He would have fun with these. Warren would probably change the tuners and top strap location with strap locks. Thanks for making my Sunday!

The one thing I usually don't like about Firebirds is the pickups (although I'd love to have one with P90s). But on the 12 string, the Firebird pickups are really awesome.

Why all the negative about the NR Firebirds? They are very similar to the Fender Jaguar/Jazzmaster. Those models are well liked and very popular. I think the NRF are great.

I’ve been an electric 12 aficionado for a long time. The tones on this instrument are spot on. Also, as a guy who was into Metallica and the Smithereens at the same time, I too have played Call of Ktulu on an electric 12 (in my case a Rick 360/12).

Weird they chose the non reverse body. The reverse seems much more popular and with a niche instrument you'd think they'd do everything they can to appeal to the masses. Still cool to see them making these

I had a 65 Non-Reverse Firebird in the 70's. Two P-90's, and a short Vibrola. I strung it with the bridge, which was a wrap around, and ignored the Vibrola. Great guitar - wish I still had it.

Always thought the 3x3 standard headstock looked better on a NR Firebird. ESP made a signature guitar recently with that style and it looks fabulous.

10:17 This bare spot in the control cavity is just the tip of the piece of masking tape the was covering that area was laid all the way up to the edge of the cavity. When the tape was removed, that bit of wood was also masked and didn’t get the paint right there. You can tell if you look at the entire patch of bare wood as a complete section that was masked.

The 335/12 got reissued in the 2010s, I've almost bought one a number of times but always found that I preferred fender 12s. I now have a Squier Venus XII.

Honestly I love the None Reverse.shape. Reverse Firebirds have just gotten too played out over the years. When I have my None Reverse out. people are like wow that's cool what is it? or I get , I never seen one in person, nice. It was a Fave back in the day with Paul McCartney and even Brian Jones, Don't mean to ruffle any Firebird feathers, Just my opinion.

I was definitely surprised by the clean sound. I know firebird pickups are similar to p90s and LP mini humbuckers, but these were pretty bright for a 12 string.

Firebird humbuckers are similar to P-90s and LP Deluxe minis only in size. They’re constructed totally differently.

Good luck with 2x the tuning! Used to borrow one for jobs back in the 70s and it was a pain. Modern tuners would certainly make it easier though.

Just saw someone had the Epiphone reverse non reverse headstock Firebird for sale. From what I could tell I dont think it was a neck through. I belive it was a lowbudget player. I could see a good view of the headstock but it looked like it could've been an Exploere style. I like how they set up controls on the one you're reviewing. I like to have my bridge volume close at hand for swells and other tricks. Cool you did the Darth Vader entrance for the 4th. I used to have that as special ring tone for the ex. Michael Nesmith sorted a 12 atring Gretsch most of his career which gabmve the Monkees songs their aound.

No such thing as a reverse non reverse Firebird. They're either reverse (think Johny Winter and Allen Collins) or non reverse. This 12 string one Trogly just reviewed is the non reverse body style. These guitars (non reverse) were a glued set neck construction too whereas the reverse body Firebirds had neck through construction. Reverse Firebirds came first and the non reverse came afterwards as they were less labor intensive and less costly to make. That and the fact that originally the reverse body Firebirds weren't selling that well. The current Epiphone reverse body Firebirds are a rmrrue neck through construction too. HTH. 👍

It deleteted the part of headstock which would be an epiphone but im not exactly sure its a neck through. But at some point way back in the 60s or 70s. and ive only seen one there was a reverse body non reverse headstock Tmodel . @@jonathanhudak2059

With such advances in plastic quality the ability to manipulate it these pickguards that are flimsy really bothers me. Pearloid inlay on the headstock though i mean 5,999 serious now. I get the historic touch but also the bridge with 12 strings geez the posts the known issue. I know i am missing the point but like as a player who wants the precision but the historical touch it looks like something you don't want to wail on everyday to get the most out of. I love the body style and unique sound.

Firebird 12 feels like Gibson trying to do the paranormal series guitars like fender but doing it expensively i wish epiphone would do a parranormal series that combine Gibson guitars and bass

The price is nothing short of outrageous for what it is, especially when you consider the Squire paranormal 12 string blue Jazzmaster which looks similar cost $375. Gibson are not even providing individual tuning heads at this price point, but opting for some cheap inline set and using the excuse that they are more historical accurate as they do regarding the positioning of that top strap button. You dont even get a bridge with individual saddles for each of the individual 12 strings to aid intonation. Is this all some kind of joke!

I remember when I was becoming more guitarded then first saw a pic if someone ( Thurston Moore ) playing a non-reverse Firebird , I thought it was so ugly that I loved it , its so goofy , yet I want one .I will look very sophisticated playing it ! OK, was left unstirred by the look of this. The Gibson 12-string headstocks always look "doofy" (to steal a certain person's word), the colour didn't appeal and I'm kind of meh about firebirds. But then it sounded truly great and the colour looked better in the lighting for the playing section. Kind of interesting (also really like the neck-through SG 12 string, headstock aside).

Being a complete weirdo when it comes to Gibson, I have always preferred the non-reverse Firebird. Baseball-bat neck, 12 string, non-reverse 'Bird with awesome sounding pickups, amazing color, sign me up!... That is, as soon as we can get an Epiphone IBG version for ~$1,700😁

I cannot imagine who would buy a new 12-string that wasn't a Rick or a Guild. Tone is pure Roger McQuinn. The color, though, is cool. I think it's the same as my 1964 Oldsmobile F-85.

I love the sound, and I think it's brilliant to offer this otherwise less desirable body style as a 12 string. I don't collect guitars, so a 12 string for my use would have to be a low-budget work horse. This one really has me wishing anyway.
