Thanks for the comparison. I just got the les paul classic in translucent red, I think it really is a great value for money in comparison to the 60s std and the slash signature model

It is no surprise that the Slash model sounds closer to the November Rain sound. But which guitar sounds better for everything? The Classic. Hell, it has coil splits and out-of-phase too. That is a great deal.

Some subtle differences here, all of which are important. But at the end of the day it strikes me how when I close my eyes and listen to all three, they all sound like Les Pauls :-). The differences are pronounced when you switch quickly from one guitar to another, but dissipate a bit once your ear adjusts to each particular guitar. Finding the right guitar to your ears is such a complicated process. There’s so many factors to weigh. In the end, I think the guitar that inspires you the most in its playability, sound, and style is the best one.
@dvaughan
@dvaughan 3 года назад
I do think they’re pretty similar sounding, with the slash model sounding better imo, but I finally got to play both of these recently, and the huge difference is in the playability and quality in the slash model! It played like butter, so much easier and faster to me. I really enjoyed it more than the 50’s standard as well.

@@gianlucadecicco5921 for sure. I have a slash model like this one and it’s excellent. I also have a 50s standard from wildwood and they play pretty much the same. I have a classic from the 90s and it’s quite a bit different because it has the most slim 60s neck I have ever played. Its actually too slim for me.
@RByrne
@RByrne 2 года назад
@Skiba covers. yeah, I've played a few of each this past week, trying to decide. They're exactly the same feel and sound. Maybe there's some(non aesthetic) differences, but I didn't notice. It's between the Classic in Blueberry Burst, or the Slash model in the Vermillion, Appetite or November(any of those would do). The Blueberry is $450Cad less(with taxes).

@@RByrne If you want the Slash experience, Buy an early 2000's classic with Slim neck, put a set of Seymour Duncan APH1 and you're ready to go. You will save more than 1k and get a far better guitar.
@slashtrio
@slashtrio 2 года назад
@@RByrne I hear ya, they are all nice ( if you get a good one). I think the current 60s models have necks that aren’t are slim as my 60s classic from 1990. It is seriously way slimmer than my standard 50s as well as my American strat from the 90s. It has superb action but the neck feels tiny in my hands - I have average size hands. I really just wanted a 50s tobacco as that’s one of my favorite tops but just got the November because it was basically a tobacco with a really excellent figured top. I plan on keeping mine forever so the added cost for aesthetics was worth it for me. I have the SD slash pups in my standard and the November has the Gibson slash pups. They are both great and similar but I prefer the Gibson slash pups overall. I actually managed to buy another set off reverb that someone sold used. Good luck. 👍🏼

The Slash model is definitely throwing out a louder sound with more low frequencies and with more of a rounded/scooped sound. And for that reason I prefer what the Classic has to offer here. Not as powerful but with more of those hard mid frequencies that you'd espect from a les paul. In fact, and on that note, the Classic sounds closer to the sound Slash himself would get from his guitars. That in itself is weird.

Nice playing! To me, it would come down to the necks on these 2. From what I understand the Classic is slim taper and the Slash sig. is 50's style. I'd have to go 50's style.

I agree with Donovan, the Custom Slash Pickups I am sure attribute to the better tone since they have the perfect amount of punch and clarity. I am not a fan of the thicker necks on the Slash models, so I opted to get a Classic, since the 60's Standard I purchased had a lot of issues, so I had to return it. I did adjust the height on my Classic's pickups, to give me the right amount of Punch and Clarity that I was looking for, a great guitar for sure with a neck more comfortable for me to play on. I do have some SD Slash pickups on one of my guitars, and it just sings, I really do like the Slash Pickups.

@@YV0910 The Standard 60's I got had a badly cut nut that needed to be replaced, the bridge saddles would snap strings and needed to be sanded and it was hard to tune and keep in tune, very very touchy. Took it to my local luthier who is really good and he said that was the best he could do with it, since the nut needed to be replaced. I should not have to replace a nut on a brand new Gibson Les Paul guitar.

The Classic sounds a bit more open....the Slash, more compressed. The neck pickup on the Classic has that just right amount of needed bite where on the Slash...it's a bit more muddy. What we're hearing here is effectively the difference between Alnico V magnets & Alnico II magnets. Not sure where the extra £800 is going for the Slash model. Not that I think it's overpriced, just that the Classic offers much better VFM - the Classic + Whiskerbuckers or Lovers will give you a better guitar for £400 - £500 less.
