Giddy Edge hike and an Abandoned Show Cave in Matlock Bath

A weekend in Matlock Bath where we visit the Cumberland Cavern, an old Show Cave that can only be reached through 1200ft of the Wapping Mine followed by Giddy Edge in Matlock Baths. Giddy Edge is a narrow exposed path around the side of High Tor, at 300ft it is one of Englands highest inland cliffs.
***Note: In the video it mentions the Trogs being a motorcycle gang, this is not correct, in fact they were like early hippies who partied in the caves.
We stay at Splash farm Motorhome and Caravan CL Site in the Derwent valley which is walkable into Matlock Bath along the Cromford canal.

Spaghetti Carbonara
80g pancetta
80g Parmesan
2 eggs
240g spaghetti
2 garlic squashed
37g butter
Melt butter, add pancetta and garlic 5 mins, take garlic out
Mix eggs with most of the cheese
Add Pasta into pan of Butter and Pancetta, Add egg/cheese mix
ENJOY! :)

Been saving this video for when Sue and I can enjoy with a glass of vino. The caves looked spooky so prefer to see them from our couch 🤣 Looked like another fabulous weekend with Katie and friends. 💕 love to both Trev n Sue

Hi both, when we filmed this in back in October we joked that it could be the last weekend away in Katie before another lockdown, we shouldn't have joked as it was and it seems so long ago now! Ah matlock my neck of the woods. Wow the caving was really cool. Ive only been down the caves at heights. Great place to walk.

Glad you enjoyed 😀 It was actually quite dusty down there so we were conscious of breathing ourselves, it was ok for a few hours but it can't have been good for the miners, Cheers...Andy&Michelle

Brilliant Vlog👍I’ve been waiting for this one!! since I saw a glimpse of it on your Halloween 40 Questions Challenge Vlog.... It was great to see my local area & Katie whizz pass where I live & work, you guys do some pretty scary stuff, you wouldn’t get me down that cave especially now after seeing that snake skin😬 I’m definitely going to do Giddy Edge thou!! Thanks Nick, you live in a great place having all this on your doorstep! We'll definitely be back to the area again this year and hopefully Splash Farm, we love walking around giddy edge, it is claimed to be Britains scariest path! (hold the hand rail as you go around the corner and watch your step!) We are planning on moving to the peak district next year and this area is right at the top of our list!!😀 Cheers..Andy&Michelle

@@ExtremeMotorhomingAdventures check out the Broomway at Maplin Sands, Essex. It's claimed over 100 people have died walking it. I did it in misty conditions which made it very eerie!

@@ExtremeMotorhomingAdventures I think a lot are historic deaths but nevertheless its still worth approaching cautiously. With the tide coming in and a thin film of water over the sands and thick mist all around there are absolutely no visual terms of reference for which way is up, down, landward or seaward, everything is just white. Easy to see how the path could be lost and wander into the quicksand. Accurate GPS makes life easier.

Great stuff. I caved at college, took it as far as wet sumping, then got really scared and took up rock climbing and decided if I was going to die at least it would be outside. These days I am a little tamer and wiser ie I get scared easily

Thanks Andy, a few years ago we combined the two and did climbing underground in a very deep mine, not being able to see the drops did have its advantages but we did miss the views. Cheers...Andy&Michelle

Very sad seeing Matlock Bath when we can’t get there 😢 with wine glasses that size I’m guessing you have a bottle each 😂 I wish you could have seen Clares face when you walked Giddy edge 😂 aww thanks for the mention, when can we discuss appearance fees? 😂 Michelle’s hat looks very festive for Halloween weekend, has anyone ever likened it to a pumpkin? 😜
