The second book is hard for people, especially because of the second person view point that's going on for a lot of it (not a permanent thing though and definitely has a purpose), and because Harrow is a bit insane so nothing really makes sense until the (OMFG AMAZING AND MIND-BLOWING) ending. Definitely recommend reading the second one because a lot of stuff from the first book changes perspective once you get to the end of the second, but like... In a good way.

I know this is not at all relevant but I LOVE your makeup, its absolutely stellar. Tje colors, the shading, esp the contrast of the eyes v lips. I dont know anything about makeup but I would learn just to copy this look.

Read the second book. It definitely takes some getting used to because it's in second person, Harrow is much more intense and less funny than Gideon, and most of the book you spend going 'What the fuck is happening?' but it is so worth it. It's really really worth it.

Okay I have owned this book for a WHILE now and I am so sad I haven't read it yet. You made it sound even better than I had originally thoughtttttt ahhhh!!!! I'm so happy that you were able to give this a second chance also & feel good about it!!! I know how it feels when a book triggers some bad anxiety sometimes and it feels terrible when that happens!!

Yeah I’m thrilled I was able to get through it and enjoy it so much. Hope you get a chance to read it soon!

The second book is very different from the first. Harrow as a main character is much more dark and part of the book is her not knowing if the things she experiences really happen. And there is this interesting dynamic where you as the reader of the first book know that some things that Harrow is sure happened/are happening can't be true. And part of the mystery is finding out why Harrow is so convinced about that. So for a long time, even though this book starts where the first ended, you don't really get answers for the questions you had. It all comes together at the end, makes sense and creates some really emotional moments for sure. Without spoiling too much, Harrow the Ninth is very good at addressing questions and making callbacks to the first book even though a lot of the people that played important roles died in the first book. And about Gideon's death. It gets addressed in very interesting ways in the next book. Just so you know, the implication is that Gideon truely died at the end and that Harrow hallucinated her at the end. Because Ianthe wasn't dealing with something similar after absorbing Naberius. Just be sure that even though Gideon died here, and even though the second book will not immediatly address her death in a way that one would expect, her having become so important to Harrow means that one way or another Gideon will not be forgoten. I hope I helped you a little bit. Harrow, the Ninth is really hard to talk about without spoilers. This book really isn't what you expect from a second part in a series. It changes its main character, makes you question what you know, has a structure that seems very weird at first and it takes until almost the end to understand a little bit what was actually going on.

This book sounds totally up my ally! On an unrelated note, I've finally gotten the chance to play the mass effect trilogy after hearing you talk about it years ago, and I have a lot of feelings right now. And also it made me legitimately question and ultimately redefine my sexuality, which was not at all something I was expecting at age 29 but makes total sense in retrospect. So thank you for all of that!

oh man I played the whole trilogy a few years ago for the 1st time and the Feels were Real I still think about replaying it when I get a chance. congrats on self-actualization

all in all I was enjoying it while listening to it (I think that audible narrator was around 60% the reason I finished it), but after I finished and started thinking about the plot it kinda... lost some of its sparkle, I guess? still enjoyable, but "eh"? edit: like, the concept and the characters were great, the humour was good, but some of the plot points were not that great?

Ugh, I loved Gideon the Ninth, and I read the second book, and I feel like I don't know if it was a smart thing to continue :/ I didn't even rate Harrow the Ninth. No spoilers, obviously, but the second one was SO complicated. Or maybe it's me, honestly, I felt dumb 🙈 I know I will have to reread it if I want to make sense of it, maybe even watch someone explaining the book 🤦🏻‍♀️

I must be the only one who thought it had a lot of purple writing. It's Low key hard for me to read and be in the world at the sa.e time. I don't say this in a way to criticize it's just something I noticed

nah it's definitely not a writing style for everyone. it's very love it or hate it.

I read this entire book and still have no idea what the plot is. I disliked every page of it. It was my worst read of 2019.

I always say that if this book is still like a 2 star read 300 pages in, probs quit lol. Not everyone likes being confused for 200+ pages. Lord knows I don’t 🙃 and almost gave up but in the end it was a 5 star read for me!
