Gießen is a university in the Landkreis Giessen in Mittelhessen and with 90,131 inhabitants (31 December 2020) the largest city of Hesse and one of the State Statistics Offices of the Landes. As the seat of the Gießen district and the regional district, it is the Mittelhessens administrative center, a local traffic police station and a regional center.
Within a kilometer west of Wetzlar in the Lahn-Dill district, the city has an agglomeration room with about 200,000 inhabitants, in the vicinity of the region comes to approx. 275,000 entrants.
