Until gift cards are treated like blank checks and held in a secure location at the store, this type of theft will continue to occur.

many years ago a blank gift card was just useless till activated then they put the visa in envelopes i ahd bought a few no issues now w the cloning and high tech its different as in the ebt theft by skimming some stores have skinny slots now like dollar tree and you cant skim those

Not so fast. Cards get opened and or lost or stolen. It happens all the time. Send a virtual gift card instead! Or buy the gift card directly from the store that sells them.

Retailers need to do what Costco does in regards to selling these gifts cards: you take to the cash register a piece of cardboard of the gift card that you want to purchase and they’ll bring the gift card out from this storage space that no customers have no access to.

I've a feeling that all types of shoplifting are becoming so common that stores might return to the days of shopping being an employees-only activity. Here's how this worked: the customer would walk up to a cashier's window, request some items from the store, and then the cashier would call up a professional shopper to fetch the items for the customer; and then the customer would pay for the items, and the cashier would hand the items over to that customer.

Easy. Make gift cards go by way of the dinosaur and give cash or gift certificates on tamper and copy proof paper. And putting the burden of checking for tampering on the customers? That needs to stop.

It is amazing to me that anyone steals at all. The pain caused by such actions lasts a lifetime. I’m still sore about my Schwinn bicycle being stolen when I was a child 52 years ago. Stealing is evil plain and simple.

My interest in gift card scams peaked when my online scammer bf asked me for one. I got rid of him,but still wondered what his exact scam was. The gift cards are untraceable. Wow

Solution ??? Make sellers keep them @ Customer Service to be issued out from one secure location, then IF the same issue arises then LEO's know how to trace back, either theif was IN house or dome BEFORE the seller got the cards from producer or in between

yes a video by a cop in calif shows something and another is to record the pin and code and recover the pin another cuts the strip and repacks it thats obvious it was tamered with 2 asian women and a guy in calif had 5000 cards the asian women it said had a way of seeing the data base for live cards w funds on them dont quite understand details it is high tech but the package is scanned when you buy it activating the card then if they have the pin and card number they can drain it

@@rogerrosen2323 so basically they are going in Walmart’s ,Targets and other stores stealing the gift cards out of the stores without getting caught or something going home or wherever they go to cut the strip off the card , repacks it then comes back into the store without the alarm going off and just hangs it back on the gift card shelf.

yes some were more high tech even cloning physical cards and using in person and somehow transfering to accounts to make larger purchases a video showed a lady bought 4 r5 walmart cards and 2 were drained the store didnt cooperate she held up payment w the bank and had a interview seems now they will watch anyone replacing caards in sacremento the cops tackled someone outside he had 5000 cards and 2 in another store on camera not all did the cutting of strips some were more doscrete and you couldnt tell they were tampered so some had a data base the high tech ones and a da was involved they showed video of stlen items@@suprmekai5

This criminal charge carries a maximum sentence of LIFE IN PRISON! Nope,our Gift Cards are fully naked no sleeve and in the open,they’re worthless unless you put money on it and gets activated and forget about Refund,lottery tickets,gift cards,tobacco,alcohol and others,you can cry your eyes out but won’t help you.Scammers won’t give up..One time Chapati called me and said I owe money to government, I said if I owe government money they know where to find me..Phone numbers are Sold everyday…

No, they are taking cards in mass quantities, setting them up to be scammed & returning them. They enter stores & do this during a busy time. There is not enough help anymore in stores to even pay attention.

The store has a tracking system for the gift cards so that they can track inventory and say cancel a card if they catch a scam. If they steal them out right then they will get caught on camera as they use the card or and IP address if they use it online. If they put them back it puts them outside the loop. They only have to go to the store 2 times and could use 2 people. There is a whole economy that runs on these gift cards. They just need to get a frikin job like most people instead of being PARASITES on Society.

Gift card scams have been going on for a lot of years . The makers of these cards and the merchants who sell these cards are aware of these scams . They are doing nothing about it. The cards need to be locked up , not out where these low life creeps can steal a person's hard earned money.
