Jay Bates , excellent video Jay. I know you have to love having someone shoot the video while you worked. I do update videos for my kids (grown kids) so they can keep up with what we are working on in the shop... moving the camera for different shots is a time killer. Great job on the music... adding music gets me too.

Scott where are your videos of your shop?
@sjbl1962
@sjbl1962 6 лет назад
Hotrod, I created a separate channel for the shop videos because I initially thought I would have a bunch of videos of my granddaughter on this channel and didn't think my kids would want to wade through all that. As it turns out, I don't shoot many videos of my grand daughter, but I get plenty of pictures.

Great project Jay. I made 4 sets of salt and pepper shakers as described in Maple, Walnut and Cherry. I then did 4 more sets scaled to 1.5" x 1.5" x 3.5" also in Walnut, cherry and Curly Maple. Finish all with organic walnut oil. If I could add a picture I would. Thanks for the channel.

I was thinking that this was a cool look to your video up until about 3:27 when I started to become nauseous from motion sickness. The moving camera gives another dimension to your videos but too much movement is , well for me, too much. Loved the shakers, great idea and well done.

Just curious--why not drill the shaker holes in the tops prior to attaching them, that way you don't have to mess with cleaning out the saw dust from inside them through the small cork hole? You could drill the shaker holes through blocks and then cut the blocks down to create multiple identical tops, which would be faster and more consistent than cutting all the tops and then drilling all the hole separately in each one. Unless the variability is a feature you are wanting to include.
@JayBates
@JayBates 6 лет назад
6 one way, half a dozen the other. You can drill them before. It's easier to center the holes after the tops are flush with the sides.

Great work and very cool video edit! 👍I often skip some moments in most videos, with video no skip during all six minutes. 😁 Question: did you put the oil inside the shakers? Or applied it only outside?
@JayBates
@JayBates Год назад
Just to the outside to keep them cleaner longer. Fingers will get the outside dirty. The inside will never be dirty because you're only putting clean salt and pepper in them. And the wood is non toxic so no need to worry about the contents becoming harmful.

hi Jay, another good video. dunno if this is too personal but I want to make the transition into full time furniture maker. I have my shop which I have slowly built over several years. I wanted to know more about your business, not including anything you make from RU-vid or any sort of merchandise etc. Just projects for clients. for example, do you advertise, if so where? if not, how do you attract customers, how do you figure out how much to charge etc stuff like that. love your channels stole loads of ideas thanks.
