I was pleasantly surprised to see this appear in my Steam recommendations the other day. I was an Uncle Sven main back in the day, and as this was one of the few MOBAs I enjoyed I was a bit gutted when Gigantic collapsed. Thanks to your previous video I got to understand the reasons behind this ! I hope they do better with this second chance - the full cross-platforming should deal with the main problem Gigantic had - and wish them all the best.
Connectivity issues at launch aside, it's good news. So happy to play Sven and Griselma again! What worries me the most is, without freemium model the game could be dead very soon. There's a graceful way out of current paywall - for example a two weeks f2p account to get X amount of match points for basic access to limited features. Returning veterans and enthusiastic newcomers would keep all their benefits, including fun factor of playing against non-bot opponents. Should this be a periodic promo or permanent feature - that's for the publishers to decide.
Yeah, having no microtransactions at all makes me wonder if the focus is more on putting the game out for preservation without having to commit to live service style long-term support. Plus, y'know, I hate microtransactions and FOMO mechanics, but I WANT to give this game more money over time lmao. Some cautious use of microtransactions and f2p might've helped the game, a la Overwatch 1 or Guild Wars 2... But we'll see, I'm down to be surprised!
Gigantic was always a really cool concept that felt fresh enough at the time (still does, kind of) and I never thought I would ever see it return in any official form. I'm very happy to see this come back.
There's so much freaking support for Battleborn all over Gifantic videos. I bought Gigantic FIVE times when it released two days ago. All in hopes that Battleborn would come back one day🙏
@@mooodybluez it's improved from day 1, but still rough. I have the advantage of being able to play during non-peak hours, so I get to dodge the real crowds, but it's real bad at peak still. There are fixes coming down, so hopefully in the next couple days we'll be good to go
I actually did play this for a few months when it initially released. Debating whether I have time for it now, but I do find it exciting and fascinating that it's come back after so long.
As someone who sunk in a lot of hours into the original prior to steam and even a bit after this coming back was a huge surprise. Been playing as much as I can in the last few days outside of the server issues. Hopefully they can fix them eventually.
Potential players be aware!!!! The servers are frequently down and struggling to handle the meager traffic of less than 5,000 players. There's bugs glitches and rough edges but you just have to understand that despite all of that this game is one of the most unique deep wonderful experiences in all of gaming. If you are willing to deal with with sime bullshit this game is a hidden gem that will test your skill like no other game does.
@@AzureRoxe I feel as though it's experiencing the same issue as Helldivers 2 when it was released? They weren't expecting a large influx of players. I'll wait to see where the game is in a month before stating my verdict.
As a gigantic fan, I never thought this day would come. The rerelease has a lot of bugs but when the core game is going, it’s just amazing. I’m so happy it’s back. I can’t believe how many people on the subreddit want MTX though. Pure brain rot stuff.
You're episode on Gigantic was the first video I saw on this channel. So to see it actually come back is really cool!!!Hope it gets more attention this time around👍👍👍
as an eternally grieving Battleborn fan, the whiplash and betrayal I got seeing Gigantic return only to still be online-only AND be "an online-only Gearbox published MOBA" is indescribable.
@AzureRoxe lol not every game needs to come back but Gigantic is coming back in a good way atleast. All the content at an affordable price with zero micro transactions and plans to keep the game alive with seasons and updates is a good selling point. If other studios wanna bring back their games they should do so in a positive way like Gigantic is.
BattleBorne deserved a better opportunity than it got (almost typed Battlerite which I also miss) but Evolve's problems stemmed from far more than marketing problems, that game ran out of tricks in 15 minutes and would better be served with a spiritual successor that actually executes the concept properly.
@Deioth yeah I hear you also battlerite I remember playing on my brother's laptop once. 💻 good times 😂 sucks it got shut down. Battleborn has potential and Evolve if it ever came back would need to change its gameplay to make it more entertaining then a run around hunt all day. I'd say a closing circle would help but don't want people calling it a battle royale hybrid when it's 1v4 game mode. Or sections of the maps close so that players will have to find new places to traverse and corner the monster. Oh well 🤷🏻♂️
I'd never even heard of Gigantic until it was already shut down. A friend who was a huge fan told me a lot about it, and made me regret missing it, since it was the first game I'd heard about in ages that sounded like it had a chance of recapturing the experience I had playing Super Monday Night Combat. I picked it up on relaunch day in memory of that friend, and I'm totally addicted despite the server failures. It really is the most fun I've had in a multiplayer game since SMNC! Also, now that I've gotten to play it, I have to ask why it's considered a MOBA. It doesn't have any MOBA elements in either mode, it's a capture point hero shooter. The gameplay loop could have been done as a special mode in Team Fortress 2...
I have a lot of nostalgia for Super Monday Night Combat and was saddened it didn't catch on. The other 1st/3rd person moba after it either just feel like Dota in 3rd person (Smite) or died too quickly (Battleborn). Hopefully this one sticks around.
I originally got interested in Gigantic after watching Death of a Game a few years back and was sadden to think I wouldn't get to enjoy it. I absolutely no idea that a revamped version was coming out, when steam showed me that a new version of gigantic had launched I got it immediately. The game is so much fun, hopefully this time around it lasts much longer than a year!
What about the elephant in the room: the fact that you can only play on official servers so if the game isn't profitable they'll shut down the servers (again) and you can't play anymore? Is there a single player mode? Private, community run servers?
Nearly all multiplayer games work this way, to be clear. So I like your perspective, but it can be levied at literally all online titles to be clear... Only like 4 pservers have official permission.
@@nerdSlayerstudioss i think we should levy the criticism at all online games!!! Valve and Mojang have the right idea allowing the communtiy to easily run their own servers. For the sake of preservation ALL multiplayer games should strive to follow suit. I can still play Day of Defeat to this day despite official valve serves having been down for some time.
@@nerdSlayerstudioss in the beta test discord channel, quite a few people were pestering the reps for private lobby/ servers. "If you don't, the game will be dead again in 2 years!" and someone else replied "2 years?! you're too optimistic, last time it didn't last a year after the 1.0 update". There is some offline functionality, you can access the maps and spawn bots via console commands iirc, thankfully they're not using the dreaded MS Store UWP distribution this time.
Something I think especially makes that unique and brawly feel is that while the gameplay is fast paced, time-to-kill is surprisingly high, even before considering all the options to disengage a fight. I worry a lot about them wanting to make everything earnable/free in game while also wanting to give it some kind of post launch support. It’s admirable but not sustainable. First time I’ve ever wanted a game to have some kind of micro transactions lol
Wish they would add more accessibility such as to choose a color to highlight enemies and allies to know where they are at all times in fights since everything gets crazy
I mean it's pretty fun. But the fact that the servers were down for more than a day and it's capped at 60 fps made me refund the game. I'm not sure it's going to survive in the long run. Making it not f2p also points me to this conclusion.
The game was always capped at 60 fps, I find it strange people missed that TBH. But quitting because of server issues at a game launch is always a choice.
@@nerdSlayerstudioss oh yeah I know. But back in 2017 it was okay. Now it feels a bit dated. I cannot really play a competitive game at 60 fps. Or rather I can, I just don't want to, because it doesn't feel right. My refund was mainly because of the fps cap. But I'm rooting that the game will survive. If it ran at a higher fps I would play the heck out of it.
60 fps isnt much of an issue mostly because everyones in the same boat and it can be ignored easily, if you are losing a match Its mostly because you are bad I dont think that this is one of the games in wich 1-3 frames can carry your whole game and its just a day, cant really see why it would be a reason to refund this game if you had fun with this, dont go so hard on it dude
@@ratslikecheez4191 maybe I didn't get my point across. English isn't my first language. I didn't refund based on the principle it's capped at 60. I could really feel that the game isn't smooth. I didn't enjoy it. The gameplay was fun, but the fps cap made it feel sluggish since I'm used to playing at least 120 fps. And why would I play a game that I don't fully enjoy playing. I wasn't trying to be harsh. If you could look past the fps limit all power to you. Enjoy the game. I just couldn't.
@@BubiRU-vid I just meant that if you played the game more eventually you would even notice really, I can understand this but if the gameplay is overall fine and there is a small thing that annoys you like this one you can just ignore it for a while and then you just wont really care, always worked like this for me at least you just need to stop focusing on this the more you think about it the bigger problem it becomes
With Gigantic's rebirth being covered, I'd love it if you covered another game: Omeda Studio's Predecessor. They just went into their F2P open beta, and launched on PS5, PC, and Series X,(with crossplay) and they're pretty much Paragon rebuilt. They've even added a few of their own original heroes at this point! Honestly I feel like we're going into a MOBA Rennaisance/rebirth here, with alot of games that *should* have worked returning and new ideas being brought in too.
Even though I am glad Gigantic is back, making it B2P just speaks how tone deaf these devs are. It will mostly likely shut down again due to lack of players in a few months, just like it did years ago. With them saying they have zero plans on updating or adding content to the game whatsoever also didn't help. Hope i'm proven wrong tho.
They need revenue today. Making it f2p with the gamble that people will buy skins is exactly why it failed originally. Plus no micros transactions is a great selling point
@@WestoberFM The game's split player base across several separate server systems was the primary reason of its initial demise. There were the awful Arc-only servers, the Windows 10 store/Xbox One-only servers, and the Steam users that need Arc downloaded in order to play. It was a complete failure because Motiga was desperate for money to continue developing the game. To secure funding from Perfect World and Microsoft, they made poor choices regarding server architecture. I guess what bothers me the most is they explicitly said this version will receive "little to no development". All of the new content currently announced for Gigantic: RE (Two new maps, two new heroes) is content that was planned and nearly finished for the original game, but never saw the light of day (until now) due to the original game's closure. Like, if your average gamer did a bit of research and saw this, would you think it would be enticing for them to buy the game? knowing that there's no future but 60+ mins queues playing against the same people?
@@ruuusakiidk, I get into games fairly quick. And they did that because they don't know how the game will do so basically in other terms, "we're not doing anything now besides patches and small updates as we want to observe how the game does and if it starts rising up, we'll see about adding more content regularly."
@@ConfettiBerg except they literally said they dont understand motiga's original code, which is why they wont be able to add any actual new stuff to the base game
Once the game gets fixed up a bit with the party invites and the login attempt errors people have, the game should be incredibly fun and consistent gameplay
This is like a dream come true, lol. I've been evangelizing about this game since it's death because I couldn't drop my love for it. The unofficial server played with leaked game code kept the dream alive and that's all I thought I could ever hope for... Yet here we are! A true resurrection has occurred and my dreams have been realized. I couldn't be happier! Sucks I didn't see you vid before watching though because I would have 100% used your referral on this one. Oh well, guess I owe you one down the line.
Seeing there are some server issues, and im hoping the player numbers increase. But honestly glad the game has come back. The original looked fun and ive been wanting a new MOBA to play
This game always looked really neat. I hope it does well this time, because it has the same visual style of a bygone era for me (Jak & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank, Wildstar vibes all around). Wishlisted until OCE servers, personally - or until a friend buys in with me.
@@doodchappin monetization was one of the issues the original game had. the fact you get all the heroes and cosmetics for free for paying a one time free already beats out a good portion of the competition.
@@nerdSlayerstudioss I think most analysis of original launch struggles underplayed Win10 factor. People REALLY hated this system then and even when the devs came to their senses and allowed W7, Gigantic was STILL advertised as W10 exclusive in multiple platforms.
@@RU-vidCommentor1you didn’t refute anything they said. So what if it “beats out the competition.” on hero unlocks? When has that been the determining factor in any of these types of games. Also, the game had monetisation issues, because they barely tried to monetised it, and it didn’t run well on many PCs, to the point it wouldn’t start, limiting its player base drastically. All this does is limit the playerbase in a different way. Not to mention, you’ve just randomly decided the other option is locking heroes if the game goes free.
I’ve always regretted never trying Gigantic when it first came out. I’m glad it’s come back and I’ve had lots of fun with it already. I hope they’ll succeed with this second chance.
Yes, I agree Its Nice to have Gigantic Back. However have you been able to play it post launch consistently? If So, that's very nice to hear, but that has not been the case for many others. Biggest current unresolved issues since re-launch appear session crashes so you can not get to the game results screen which limits progression and if a player drops from game they get replaced with an Invincible Bot of that same character. It appears like a frustrating launch that seems more like a beta game versus something polished atm. I wish the devs the best to turn things around but people should be aware of the current state of the game.
The game coming back seen to be a good timing of sort due to Overwatch 2 being crumbling as of lately! Yes the two are abit different but still function the same! Made me wonder if Battleborn will try to make a comeback too?
from what i have played, i expected to only like playing my normal tank and support roles but melee DPS is actually fucking lit turns out adding *actual* combo's and strings is actually fun reading the skills and talents, testing them out a bit, like the feedback for hitting your abilities-- and because the stamina as a resource + cooldowns system, you really feel the impact of good positioning and flanking
I never played the original and hopping into this has been a blast! Only complaint is the 60fps cap. In a fast paced team shooter, having only 60fps feels really bad. I hope they can unlock the frame rate at some point down the line
I was a bit surprised to see this one pop up again, I remember playing it with some friends way back at launch and having a pretty groovy time with it. It's currently on sale (at least for xbox) at the price 15.99$ so it wouldn't be a bad game to get my only issue is if it's going to die again... That kinda my worried about the game, glad to see it back and I definity want to play it but with how most games are going now it's feels me with worry.
I definetly think that they should not have made Rush the mode newcomers have to play till level 10. This feels like a massive blunder and might seriously hurt them in the long run.
While good news, with any price tag the game is dead in the water. A huge portion of steam playerbase won't pay a single dime for a MOBA. Sad but true....I bet that if you get into steam forums of this game there's already 200 threads asking the game to be f2p already. People just suck....
For me it’s just the fact they’re not gonna care too much about banning cheaters. I stopped playing csgo cuz the rampant cheaters and just stuck to Val. If the devs do decide to put resources into an anti cheat then Gigantic definitely has my attention.
when it first came out i thought the art style and concept was really interesting, but didn’t play because i don’t play game much anymore lol. glad to see it came back. i hope it does well…
