www.overgroundo... Overground Online recently spoke to award-winning rapper Giggs about his groundbreaking new record deal, anticipated debut album, and fast-rising mainstream popularity.
i love how, even though he's talking about bad things that have happened to him and friends he always has a smile on his face. Never let bad things get you down!
I got so respect for gigs i watched this guys whole journey whilst going through my own journey. Started on the roads trapping n gang shit now I changed my life n working legit doing well with kids. I seen gigs change to become the man he is today and that shit is inspirational.
Realist guy to ever do this in the UK. Fuck all this new school shit during this period Giggs completely took over the streets. Undisputed godfather of U.K. rap
i live in county durham there is very little so called black culture. but all i listened to is rap/hip hop/jungle and then when grime came out that is all i listen to these days. not a lot of new stuff so i just listen to the classic old school grime .
good interview, didnt really understand the 'im the first gangster to cross into mainstream' comment, right after you talk about dizzie, also what about wiley & skepta, they have gone mainstream for a few tracks and they still rep their hoods?
sick of people like skepta making pop shit when he aint even signed giggs is signed and hesmaking real authentic heart felt music major respect to giggs. his new single is a smash!
i love how you get mobo winning puppets like JLS promoting safe sex with their own condoms and whatnot then someone proper hood like giggs coming out with 'i do it bareback, i take chances'. fuckin 'ARRDD!! mad love for giggs
@lmbolivar1 ..... The mainstream music scene wants artists singing about what the producers want, not what the singers themselves want, with a few exceptions of course, i don't like it when an artist goes mainstream and changes their whole reflection on music however it's good to know that they've made money from doing something they love, but could always stick to their roots and do some more underground tracks. E.g Devlin's now signed, yet he's still done SB.TV F64s etc
i have 2 admit giggs wasnt my fav rapper he still isnt but has defo grown on me, dis nigga isnt dumb etha he got a grim past n can only really xpress it fully in da music he makes i used 2 b da same as every1 else saying he got no charicter 1st watch him present westwood dat was jokes i like da way he is composed n dosnt reveal 2 much xspecaily in interviews like dis big up giggs
Lmao @ "when i start living in Disney Land 24/7 then i'll start rapping about Mickey Mouse" i respect his honesty though..gotta admit the guy just tells it as it is.
Extraordinary. This is the same SOUTH LONDON that I had an idyllic and very pleasant childhoo with no problems in the 1960's/1970's Then the (mainly) 2-Parent Whites moved out and the Black Guys of Caribbean descent brought their Jamaican customs and attitudes and lid=festyle with them i.e. Jamaica has the highest murder rte and almost the highest one-parent Families with the Mum working all hours and the Father absent after the birth of the Pickney, 171 London Black Gangs tell the story.
the curse of getting signed... devlin... benny banks... k koke... giggs. we love them before then they get signed then we hate them.. at the end of the day its underground music lovers who got giggs famouse and once that record label gets them they need a whole new audiance its like starting from fresh
@pkf2007 Funnily enough today I went for a walk and met a 60 year old White Woman who said EXACTLY what I saw and believed. She said almost everyone had TWO-PARENT families back in the Lae 1950's/1960's and then the Caribbean Black people came and brought their Jamaican lifestyle with them i.e. Extended Families. Mainly ( 75% ) Single-Parent Families . By the way 67/70 of the last London Teenage Murders by Black Guys who are 15% of Londoners ! That is almost mathematically impossible.
@Isleofskye do you not think it could be an inner city youth cultural issue then rather then just making sweeping comments about race? If there tend to be black people in poorer areas of london then ocf theres going to be more crime commited by black people but thats the same with any area and for any race! In LA the majority of crimes are by young men of east asian and latin american heritage.
we build and we destroy such is known as human nature. there is no creativity in negativity thats my belief. as an artist i would personally think about the impact my music has on my audience(youth), in this case its a whole bunch of kids in an area were it is a reality to own a gun but really do u have to add fuel to a raging fire. i'm from peckham & i have played a part in destroying my community in the past, so its not some random person postin a comment.
@ldpoetess Sadly my knowledge is based on living since the Mid-1960's as a Teenager close to Multi-Cultural Areas in the heart of South London and I also have extensive knowledge of many of London's other 350 Villages that comprise our 8 Million populace. We are all individuals and should be judged on their own merits HOWEVER we BOTH know that the next 10 times we will hear about London Youth Murders thatt, 9 of them WILL be committed by Black Guys, as per the last 30 years experience.
@lmbolivar1 I agree with you in a way but not wholey, underground artists are better when they're underground and sticking to their roots and it proves that they're good when they get recognised and start making money, however, when they start spitting/singing about what the mainstream world wants then they can start to lose what their original goal was as they have changed they music and what point they want to get across. Also, most of it isn't original! .....
