Gil Hodges’ daughter, Irene, gives HEARTWARMING speech at Baseball Hall of Fame INDUCTION 

This is very likely the best HOF speech, in terms of sincerity, authenticity, and plain simple goodness.

To say this was long overdue is a gross understatement. Why Gil Hodges hadn't been inducted years ago is one of the great mysteries in life.

A great justice has been served, a great day for baseball. Gil Hodges was a great man, not just a great first baseman, who delivered with heart and soul.

Long, long overdue. I'm sure Gil is up there smiling. I remember the '69 Miracle Mets very well. God bless Joan Hodges!

I read somewhere that Gil Hodges was a lifetime smoker, something that may have been a factor in his heart attacks and premature demise at 47. I was 13 when he died and I couldn't believe it when I heard the news. The anecdote about the bed checks at 8:58 was so funny, but at the same time it showed how humble he was and how much the players respected him.

This is a special day. Among all days Gil Hodges get inducted into the baseball Hall of Fame on my Birthday!! What a treat!! For my Birthday I bought a Brooklyn Dodgers hat and Lids but on the right side of my Hat 14 H.O.F 7-22-22 and I bought a Dodgers shirt with the the number 14 on the back. I wore it to the Dodgers game and it gave it good luck because the Dodgers win on my Birthday but most of they swept the hated Giants. I knew Gil Hodges would not allow the ugly Giants to win on his day!! Thank you Gil up above you made my birthday the best one ever!!

I’ll be the first to admit I am a Yankees fan. But I respect baseball history as well. The fact Gil finally was inducted, brought a tear to my eye, and this speech I couldn’t stop crying when I heard the first time, and I still can’t stop now.

I'm a member of the GIL HODGES FOR THE HALL OF FAME CLUB on line. We have been at it for yrs. We all fully support Irene Hodges 110% and consider her our leader in our pursuit of the Hall of Fame for MSgt. Gilbert , USMC . No one is happier than us to see Gil Hodges in the Hall of Fame.

I had not realized that Gil was honored for bravery / valor / during Okinawa in WW 2. And that Jackie R. and Gil were so close w/ their families. Still amazing that it took so long for Gil to get inducted.

I didn’t know Jackie Robinson also died in 1972, that’s a crazy coincidence, I also didn’t know him and Hodges were good friends.
