Gilbert is amazing. Gets roasted by Artie the entire interview, knows it’s in good fun, but laughs is off. Because he knows the value of a good joke. It was clearly all love between these two.
I agree. Being born in 81 i kinda feel like i grew up with gilbert around. I also understand how some people are horrified by his voice while i for some reason am endlessly entertained by him.
It's making me cringe listening to Howard try to force a serious psychoanalytic interview upon Gilbert. Thank goodness Artie and Gilbert treated the notion as seriously as it deserved.
i don't know. half of what artie said was funny 25% seemed like just heavy mean spirited slaps and the other 25% were clunky jokes that didn't go anywhere. robin can be funny cause whatever she says is just riding off of howard's comedy genius (when she's not on a rant.) even gilbert when one of his jokes doesn't land he immediately shuts up and let's howard take over. artie doesn't possess those traits.
You can hear Artie trying to get the vibe back to the earlier days. Howard's "pro interview" style doesn't work with Gilbert. Gilberts is the best guest in history!
In a perfect world, Gilbert and Artie would be co-hosting a show that endlessly bashed Pelican and pushed back at the large section of comedians that just can't hack it anymore.
By the way…Howard loved that jump the shark moment stuff. This interview is an example of the shark being jumped. Who gives a shit about interviewing Gilbert. Good for Artie ruining the bad style
Gilbert is on an episode of artie and anthony that is one of funniest things Ive ever watched. Artie is high as a kite but the two of them riffing together was NON STOP. The old time actor and comedian references they are able pull out are amazing 😆
The entire hour was hilarious and it kept getting funnier as it went along, hitting the peak with all three doing Paul Lynde impersonations, portraying him as a pedophile. Very wrong but very funny.
This is in my top 5 favorite Gilbert appearances on Stern. His David Brenner impression is hilarious!! You could tell Artie and Gilbert loved riffing off each other. Gilbert was hands down the funniest and most original guest on the show.
Howard will never come out and say why he banned the greatest guest on the show. Gilbert was incredible. Yes I’ve heard the cupcake story but Stern has never uttered a word about it.
howard actually did talk about it with a caller (michael) on 4.26.22: "Michael asked why Howard stopped having Gilbert Gottfried on the show. Howard said he loved Gilbert and he was a big fan of his. He said he promoted him a lot when he was on the show. He said he put him in Son of the Beach and on TV. He said that its not that mysterious about what happened. He said you just move on to different people. He said you go in different directions. He said people thought he pissed him off or something but that's not the case. He said Gilbert did spit in the cupcakes there but that's not why he wasn't on the show. He said Gilbert was a genius and he made them laugh so hard. He said they're playing his tapes over and over again because he was so good. He said there are many people like that who have been on the show. @@anned.372 I heard that show. Stern isnt telling the truth. Perhaps it was Gilbert’s close relationship with Artie that caused a division. Going back and listening to these old shows has been hysterical. Gilbert was literally the best guest ever and you don’t move on from that. Stern held a grudge about something, perhaps we’ll never know. I’m sure Artie does…
Whenever Gilbert Gottfried was on the show you knew you were in for some huge laughs. Every time. The chemistry between Artie and Gilbert was fantastic. The world became a lot less funny with Gilbert’s passing. R.I.P. 🙏
Howard’s sickening here, he’d forgotten what a fun interview is, asking questions in that weird monotone, trying to sound like he was a serious interviewer. Thankfully, Artie was doing his best to create some fun and laughs and get around Howard’s lame new interview style.
I just came from another video where Howard is talking to his mom about her double d's and her body and I come here reading a statement how sickening he is as an interviewer. Lemme tell you something he's just a sickening individual
just occurred to me but artie made a joke about Gilbert's son working at a car wash in 15 years and literally almost 15 years from when this was artie is working at a gas station car wash the irony is crazy 😂
This is when Howard started his psychobabble interview style and Artie was interrupting every ten seconds. You can tell Howard is annoyed although he doesn’t cut Artie’s mike like in the Ben Stiller interview. 2009 was the beginning of the end of the show.
Before Artie, Howard and Gilbert would riff together but with Artie there you have two pro comedians and Howard is a third wheel. And the two of them are awesome here
Losing Gilbert honestly hurts. So many bad times In my life he cheered me up. I found his rabbi impression highly offensive though as a native Hebrew speaker. G_d darn it. That was too far! Rip Gilbert. Loved him.
The only funny thing is Gilbert and Artie riffing and of course Pelican and Albatross have to try to get them to stop. My god its amazing knowing how unfunny Howie and Robin really are and how much of the success was the very people they try to pretend don't exist.
@Mike Moore So strange to me to see people complain about the shortest most insignificant era of a FANTASTIC show. He is old and everyone loses their edge eventually. He was always a "leftist". Religious conservatives are the reason he has been almost banned from radio on SEVERAL occasions since his start.
